Have been watching this over the past couple of nights, and have been appalled by the commentating by Peter McKenna and Bob Skilton. It got to the stage where both of them were just about barracking for a Hawthorn victory.

I hadn't noticed it in the past, as I had a copy of the ABC tape, with Drew Morphett and Tim Lane calling the game. Even though both of them are Carlton supporters, you would never know, as they called the game vey very well. However, I somehow lost the tape somewhere, and have only recently purchased the game.

Has anyone else noticed this when they have been watching the game? It almost spoils the actual game itself.

Drew Morphett is actually a Hawthorn supporter & this did used to come out in some of his calls, but mostly, like Tim Lane, he was objective in his calls.

Are you sure mate? I'm pretty certain that he's a Carlton man.

Definitely a Hawker. He's from WA originally but came over well before the Eagles came into it. Very ordinary caller and as I have said here a million times before, the only man who could have made the 99 PF sound like a CWA early heat bake-off.

Tim Lane is a co<k.

Lane comes across as one of those football fans who has a love-hate relationship with their team and loves to bag them.

Or Lane is trying to be impartial and just ends up sounding like an idiot.

I listen to Lane less than Wallsy after his pathetic article about Pratt's presidency and pathetic commentary in the round three upset.

Disagree. Tim Lane is a professional and still not scared to tell everyone he loves Carlton. But not a biased prick like others

I could sware I have heard he was a Carlton supporter, and that has come from more than 1 person. Oh well, meh.
You're not imagining it - I remember that too. But people here are pretty definitive about him being a Hawker.

Only all of the above is complete and utter rubbish.

disgraceful commentary by skilton in particular. pretty sure kernahan might have dogged his misses.

I hated Skliton as a commentator as he was so biased towards the Swans and hated Carlton with a passion. The Kerna marking incident I think that you would be refering to was in the third quarter when he was trying to mark the ball looking into the sun on teh wing in front of the Southern Stand. I never saw Sticks EVER drop his head in a marking contest. He was rooting for the Hawks and they were smacked on the day (and Hawks had Dunstall and Morris or Curren missing but we had Motley, Blackwell, English, Sartori, Evans unavailable as well through illness, injury & suspension).

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally someone else who agrees that Morphett is a dud caller. The commentary of the 1999 Prelim was a disgrace for one of the best finals in the past 30 years. It is the only negative to what was otherwise an awesome day....i just wish the DVD could contain the audio from 3AW or Triple M call of the game. As much as i love bagging him, Eddie McGuire's call that day was brilliant, who could forget his final 10 seconds "Carlton are going to win by a point, Carlton are going to win by a point, Carlton are going to win by a point <<siren>> and Carlton have won by a point!"

As for 1987, bad commentary aside, i'm still dirty on that rubbish mark being awarded to John Kennedy late in the first quarter that had been touched by about 4 other players!
