STEVEN ICKE SAID ON THE CARLTON WEBSITE WALKS COULD EVEN PLAY THIS WEEK BLOODY HELL WOULD THAT BE A MAJOR PLUS FOR THE BLUES EVEN IF ITS THE WEEK AFTER GREAT NEWS :thumbsu:

Would be a huge bonus if we were able to get Walks back into the senior team. I'd say he was in career best form as a 3rd tall defender when he went down with the broken collarbone.

However the last thing that we should be doing is rushing him back. There is no harm in being extra cautious and giving him more time than necessary to recover. Make sure he is 100% right to go and bring him back after the mid-season break.

PS. Stop yelling - I've got a headache :thumbsu:

A steel plate holding his collarbone together :p

I've had that operation recently, I'd be surprised if he comes back that quickly, as the bone is still broken, not to mention a steel plate being very close to the skin. If you have a heavy collision, i'd think having the plate in would do a bit of damage! My surgeon said the plate needed to be in for at least 4 months, but then again I'm not as fit as walks!!

It depends on where the fracture is placed and the severity of it. Possible that the plate was inserted so he could play sooner where a "regular Joe" could be of action for a couple of months or more with their arm in a sling. The real problem is opposition players targeting him, eg Jack Reiwoldt "punching" Tayle Pears wrist last weekend.

That would more than likely happen but what would be the worst thing that could occur out of that? The steel plate would surely just strengthen his injury against these types of things

I think he will come back next week along with Bower. I just doubt that they will rush him back given his injury history.

Was using Reiwoldt as an example of players targeting their opposition who have returned from injury, particulary broken bones. I'm just being paranoid :D

It's there to stabilise the bone, but the collarbone is very close to the surface, so strong tackling, punching etc could mean the plate cutting through skin. I have no idea how much pressure is needed though.

given that the next few weeks are all very winnable games, I wouldn't rush him back too soon.

It wouldn't be pretty if that happened . Maybe they shouldn't rush him back then

no, the next few weeks are must win games. drop these and may as well hang up the towel.
Spot on. The next 4-5 weeks will make or break our season. They are games that going into the year we would have looked at as the "purple patch" where we could string together 3-4 wins in a row. The fact we are coming into this patch a little better off than we would have reckoned on is a bonus. Lose more than one of the next 5 and we start to errode the positives gained from wins vs Crows, Cats, Saints and Power at AAMI, none of which would have been counted on.

WCE and Freo here, North and the Dees.........we should win 3 of these 4, if not all 4.

With Walker back, and hopefully Houlihan, Bower and Waite next week we start to return back to near full strength.

Surgeons aren't so worried about plates that sit on the surface of the bone in terms of re-injury. Should he cop a heavy knock of re-injure that area the plate is easily removed and they can re-fixate the bone if so required.

The ones they worry about are the IM nails (rods in the middle of the bone) typically used for long bone (thigh, shin and upper arm) breaks as if you re-fracture with these in and bend the rod its a nightmare to remove and re-set.

Walks has had 4 weeks and it will be 5 by the time he plays. Plenty of time for healing, and the clavicle heals pretty well as a rule. With the plate in and healing onf the bone it will be very strong.

It really comes down to comfort and flexibility/strength.

If I was an opponent I wouldnt worry about trying to punch it......you'll only hurt your hand. I'd probably hip and shoulder him, or slam him in a tackle on that side - much more effective.

How's Walker go from being 4 weeks away one week to a test the next?

What we are learning is that when it comes to injury news we cannot trust the club to be up front and honest. The release of information on our injuries has been nothing short of disgraceful! :thumbsd:

I guess you just need to seek out some "informed" opinions.

Straight after I heard what the injury was I said he'd be looking at 4-6 weeks. It is possible the club just forgot to update the website.

At least we're not being "Vossed"........yes....despite not traininf for a month and running slower than my Granny (RIP), "he's fine".

Vossy copping some "footy Karma" for stabbing Bradshaw in the back.
