Who needs a HDD anymore?

Victorinox’s Flash Drive Makes Losing 1TB Easy

You might think they only make knives, but Victorinox also makes some of the best flash drives on the market (in this reporter’s opinion). They’re well-built, extremely fast and in a few days might be available in 1TB capacities.
Yeah, you read that right. One terabyte! In addition to more storage than you’ll ever really need hanging on your keychain, the USB 2.0/eSATA II drives will include 256-bit AES hardware/software encryption and what appears to be a built-in monochrome LCD display. Presumably providing details on the drive contents and available capacity.

I don't want a 1TB flash drive, I just want affordable external HDDs. Went to buy an external for my sister for xmas and the 2TB was $139. I bought a 1TB a year ago for $110.

Stop making bigger storage on smaller drives. No-one (beyond a tiny 0.1% of the population needs or wants a HDD bigger than 2TB or a 1TB flash drive). Start making HDDs affordable and USB 3.0 as standard.

A lot of people want larger HDDs so they can store HD movies, myself included.

A 1TB external HDD is (and has been) around $100 for a couple of years now.

Depends on where you go, most places have bumped the prices up significantly thanks to the Thailand flood some time ago.

I need a 2tb drive, but i'm not paying sky high prices for one :thumbsd:.

I have purchased many external hdd's over the last 2 years (got so far behind with backing up things to dvd and blu-ray, i just started purchasing external hdd's instead!!).

Barely anyone in Australia has the bandwidth capacity to download HD movies.
Wut?

I only download in HD now (720p), if I had a bigger plan I'd be getting 1080p. My 2TB hdd is full (about 800 movies and about 50 tv series) so I'm using my old 1TB as well now, what's pissing me off is it's still better value per TB to buy a 2TB hdd instead of a 1TB or 3TB. It should be better value the more storage you buy.

I would use this if it was cheap As i use flash drives to watch movies and tv shows i download.

But over all an external hard drive is better value as most of them can be plugged int a power supply and then into any device ie computer laptop or dvd player etc.... (Unless it is password protected).

I have a 1.5 tb external hardrive which at the moment has around 200 and something gigabytes free it is filled with movies and tv shows.

I have a 16 gig flash drive and sometimes its not enough space to fit a full tv series on and thats where this 1 tb flash drive would come in handy.

And on the subject of internet last year i got a call from optus asking if i wanted to upgrade my internet and i told him no but then hes said its free and i said okay tell me about it.

He said we can upgrade you from your unlimited download internet with a 50 gig limit to an unlimited dowload 1 tb a month internet and you will be paying the same amount as you are now.

My answer : HELL YES!!!!!!! :D:thumbsu:

Since then i have been downloading complete tv shows that add up to around 25 -30 gig and they have been dowloading on average in on or around 4-5 hours.:thumbsu:

So if your with optus give them a hollar and suss out the 1 tb a month plan they have it is well worth it.

If you have cable broadband then please ignore this advice. I don't want you encroaching on my bandwidth. :)

Start making HDDs affordable
 and  again.
I paid more for my first HDD almost 20 years ago - a massive 40Mb - then I did for my last HDD (2Tb). That's real dollars, not taking inflation into account. Take inflation into account and the price per Mb now versus then is between 0.01% and 0.001%. Seriously find anything else out there that regularly gives you that much improvement for your money.

Plenty of stuff out there that goes up at a crazy rate for no or minimal improvement that deserves shit heaped on it before worrying about HDD prices.

I'll be happy with a 1Tb Flash drive, although USB 3.0 would be required before I'd buy one.

Is Optus cable still complete arse or have they fixed their backhaul problem to the US?

Didn't know there was an issue until you posted and I had a look at the Whirlpool forums! Have had Optus cable for nearly five years and have only noticed minor slowing at peak times. Most of my downloading takes place overnight so it hasn't been a problem.
