Re: No Choppy

You are joking me Russian. Tell me you are joking.

I am not too bothered by Pickett's absence, but we have just moved back 10 rounds by dropping White and Salopek for Primus and Francou.

I cannot believe that we are going to play 3 ruckmen for this game. It keeps us too top-heavy. White might not be the quickest out there, but he plays as a leading player.

Primus better play one helluva of an inspirational game this week. Otherwise captain and coach will have some egg on their faces.

Obviously a farewell game for both of them. Pity James doesn't get one.

I have been supremely confident all week but my stomach just turned when i read our side for this week.

Even if we somehow manage to get over the line with these 2 has beens, i cant see us progressing any further.

Serious problems with the selection process. I guess the improvement we showed last week (in almost all aspects) can be put down to the blokes needing these two has beens back in the team.

That is the big negative.

All of a sudden you have Primus in the side - so where do you play him?

Play him in the ruck, and he can't do any better than confident and in form Lade and Brogan have done without him for the last month.

Play him up forward? Makes us look pretty slow and cumbersome. Almost delegates Brogan to being benched when not in ruck.

Francou - OK. Did well late in the Carlton game. Did a bit against the Crows although not as much as we would have hoped. Can be used off the bench for 15 minutes per quarter. The real downside of Josh is if he gets embroiled in retaliating to Carr and giving away cheap free kicks. We know that Carr will hold his nerve under those situations. JF most certainly won't.

If we keep this side for the games beyond any win on Sat night, we will be basically playing at least Primus because of "name", sympathy, status as captain. That isn't healthy when it hasn't worked all year.
Even worse if his back is really injured.

I thought after a good win, you keep things simple and stick to a formula that has looked much better in the last month.

Let's hope we don't get a rude reminder of how awful we were for 3/4 of a season this Sat night.

IN: Francou, Primus

OUT: Salopek, White

You know it will happen

Written by me the day after last weeks match in the Round 22: Do or Die thread.

What a pity it was true.

Our selection panel are total ********ing morons who should all be taken out the back and shot.

Absolute BS

I wonder what treatment Salopek would have gotten had he played a bad game, the evidence suggests remain in the side.

WTF is going on? Why cant form every be used as an indicator when picking the side.

At least we had a couple of weeks not looking like Dads Army. YES Bish is still there

Typical of them to drop Sala for Francou... but Primus in? why mix with a winning side? seriously.

Now we go in again with 3 talls...

If his back isn't 100% and we are playing at night - how cold is it going to be? Lets hope he has some heating pad on his back.

Look, I'll be happy if he just sits it out on the bench with his heating pad. He can be as inspirational as pie from there. Don't mess with the rhythm Brogan and Lade have got going.

I just cannot understand how the selectors could pick Primus and keep a straight face?

He has been in very average form all year, then misses a month, and now straight back into the side.

Allan Scott ... you were right! What a ******** joke.

I was worried when I heard Chad on MIX this morning saying he'd like to see Primus back in as a tall forward to stretch the Freo defence. Pity about marking the ball, kicking straight and being able to chase defenders.

Why not stuff it up properly and drop Chaplin, bring Cochrane back to tag Pavlich and put Chad back to CHB.

More jobs for the boys here than in diplomatic political postings.

Its not a set side yet, changes can and I reckon will happen.

B: Peter Walsh, Darryl Wakelin, Matthew Bishop
HB: Brett Montgomery, Chad Cornes, Michael Wilson
C: Shaun Burgoyne, Josh Francou, Kane Cornes
HF: Stuart Dew, Warren Tredrea, Josh Mahoney
F: Michael Pettigrew, Dean Brogan, Gavin Wanganeen
Foll: Brendon Lade, Peter Burgoyne, Domenic Cassisi
Interchange: Troy Chaplin, Adam Kingsley, Danyle Pearce, Matthew Primus

Emergencies: Byron Pickett, Steven Salopek, Damon White

IN: Francou, Primus
OUT: Salopek, White (omitted)

Snr didnt train wednesday, and might not play. Choppy has been named for the maggies, but they dont play until Sunday. So he still can come in - if snr goes out. Primus still can be "sore" and changed. If Damon plays for the roosters Saturday, then we will know for sure he wont be brought in.

Sad that Jamey's isnt in the side though, really thought they would name him, and would have liked to have seen him named before JF.

Not yet conviced this will be the side that goes out there!! At least Chappy, Grew and Pearce are still in the side. Got some speed there with pearce.

And when we meet the dockers in round one, we lost Josh M, and Jnr in the 1st quarter, toby went down in the 3rd quarter.
This was our side Round 1
B: Matthew Bishop, Darryl Wakelin, Shaun Burgoyne
HB: Brett Montgomery, Chad Cornes, Stuart Dew
C: Stuart Cochrane, Kane Cornes, Dom Cassisi
HF: Josh Mahoney, Warren Tredrea, Brett Ebert
F: Gavin Wanganeen, Brendon Lade,Toby Thurstans
Foll: Dean Brogan, Adam Kingsley, Peter Burgoyne
Interchange: Matthew Primus, Aaron Shattock, Josh Francou, Peter Walsh

Emergencies: Ben Eckermann, Jacob Surjan, Michael Pettigrew

In red is who we lost in the 1st and 3rd quarter, in bold is who we dont have in the side this time round. It is a better team this time, and still changes can be made to make it even better.

Lets just wait and see folks.

Great post, PPWA. And wait we shall. At least we've got three viable emergencies ready to go. (But, jeez, why not just do it right the first time??)

There's still 2 days to go. Plenty of time for Williams to bring Shattock in to add some "toughness".

If Primus was truly the great team man he's said to be he'd go quietly. Putting his hand up and demanding to be selected after what he watched last Saturday night just demonstrates how selfish, arrogant and pig-headed the man is, qualities the coach obviously admires.

Primus, your time is up. You had your time and thanks for your service, but it's over. You are NEVER going to even resemble an AFL-standard footballer again.

I don't know what to say. I'm so ********ing frustrated with all this ********. This was the most i was looking forward to a night at the football since last year. Don't even feel like going anymore....but i will.

And you know at some stage he's going to have Primus, Lade and Tredrea as the talls in the forward lines. And he'll wonder why the dockers will sweep it so easily out of defence.

And if you think the side will change for the better ... sorry, I have one word ... dreamers.

Shattock wont come in. If anyone comes in it will be choppy and white. Jeeeeee dont know why every one is so upset, its a dam site better team than named against them last time. I am still really confident, hell we lost all those players in round 1, it was a bloody hot day, we had no run left in our legs, no interchange to speak of, it was a Subi and we went down by about 26 points.

100% Confident People, come on show same dam faith!!

Christ two changes and everybody is throwing the dam towel in!! Great people, keep it up and you will just will us to lose the game. Trust me, of all people that so badly want us to win this match, its me, not only for our finals chance, but because of what we have put up with all year after Round 1. And I like the side, it looks good.

Going now, before I say something I will regret.

I'm upset because we finally got the balance right and in comes Primus the passenger. Not just a pointless inclusion but a de-stabilizing one.
