This has probably been done, but i figure it is a suitable time to do this because most of the players from this draft have passed their prime, but are still playing.

My list goes as follows;

1.Nick Riewoldt
2.Shaun Burgoyne
3.Daniel Kerr
4.Drew Petrie
5.Kane Cornes
6.Scott Thompson
7.Alan Didak
8.Josh Hunt
9.Daniel Cross
10.Chris Newman
11.Ted Richards
12.Justin Koschitzke
13.Adam Mcphee
14.Graham Johncock
15.Ashley McGrath

Just missed : Daniel Motlop, Andrew Krakouer and Dom Cassisi

Kerr over Burgoyne IMO

Kosi has no right to be above Cassisi

Burgoyne was just ahead for me, only because of Kerr's injury problems

Is this over their careers or on current form?
Entire career

I'd have Jordan Mcmahon feature pretty highly, got pick 19 for him which allowed us to get Ward (few years of decent service + good finals from him), and from that we salvage pick 6 compensation.

Jordan Mcmahon also had a positive effect for richmond, he kicked a winning goal for Richmond vs Melbourne giving them pick 3 to select Martin instead of 1 or 2 which would have been used on Trengrove/Scully.

That dude had a nice net effect for a few clubs.

I would take Daniel Cross over Josh Hunt every day of the week without a second thought.

Like you I value hardness, but Hunt's premierships pushed him up just that little bit

Would love to see some of your rankings, would be interesting

I think Thompson should slot in at number 4. Remember that Petrie took a long time before he delivered. Cross should be higher as well IMO.

Would take Scott Thompson over Cornes and Petrie everyday of the week. Would take Cassissi over Newman as well.

Doesn't read as an overly strong draft - Not a lot of depth.

the top 3 were as good as most other drafts, in terms of games that is. After that it was a bit of a raffle

Riewoldt, Kosi and Didak : 746 games (More to come)

Rest of top 10 : 505 games (All retired or delisted)

A pretty weak draft in hindsight, would also have Kerr at #2 but not by much.

This draft only produced 3 A-grade Midfielders, which if you look at it is shocking

Compare that with 01 where I believe there were 11

Burgoyne is way to high. No way would I have him ahead of Kerr and Thompson

Over their careers, Thompson (22) has averaged 5 more disposals that Burgoyne (17) - and personally I prefer Burgoyne's disposals to Scott

Kerr has averaged 21, but I like Burgoyne's flexibility

I don't know how you can justify burgoyne ahead of Kerr. Burgoyne had the ability to be number 1 on that list but is a very lazy footballer. Kerr by a mile

And even as a port support I would have Thompson ahead of Cornes regardless of the fact that Cornes has more accolades

1. Nick Riewoldt
2. Daniel Kerr
3. Drew Petrie
4. Scott Thompson
5. Shaun Burgoyne
6. Kane Cornes
7. Daniel Cross
8. Alan Didak
9. Chris Newman
10. Ted Richards
11. Daniel Motlop
12. Josh Hunt
13. Adam McPhee
14. Graham Johncock
15. Justin Koschitzke
16. Ashley McGrath
17. Dom Cassisi
18. Daniel Harris
19. Corey Jones
20. Andrew Krakouer

Stiff: Jamie Charman

I don't feel I have to justify Burgoyne ahead of Kerr, it's just an opinion

I would just struggle to pick a player knowing that in their prime (24-28 years old)

They would struggle to get on the park

1. N. Riewoldt
2. D. Kerr
3. K. Cornes
4. D. Petrie
5. S. Thompson
6. S. Burgoyne
7. D. Cross
8. A. Didak
9. C. Newman
10. T. Richards

imo

How is Burgoyne ahead of Didak? Didak is a two-time All Australian, Best and Fairest, premiership player and leading goalkicker in a premiership year. Burgoyone hasn't won a club best and fairest. Dids is well deserving of a top 5 spot.

stats don't determine how good a player is.

Thompson and Kerr are/were both A grade midfielders, Burgoyne never was

It's a shame Mark Coughlan got injured. He won a B&F in his 3rd year (age 21) - yes I know it's only Richmond, and therefore worthless, but still....

OP + 2 x knees + shot hammies did for him. Only played 50 games after his B&F. In the only other season he played 22 games (2005, after OP), he cam 5th in the B&F.

But 92 games does not a great career make.........................

Because he's a better footballer.
