I think non Collingwood fans have a terrible set against Didak due to perceived lack of hardness. Yeah the guy avoids contact but he played the 2010 finals carrying a painful injury and performed very well. This guy has been responsible for ensuring so many wins it's just crazy.

I don't feel I have to justify Burgoyne ahead of Kerr, it's just an opinion

I would just struggle to pick a player knowing that in their prime (24-28 years old)

They would struggle to get on the park

Considering Kerr finished 2nd, 3rd and 2nd in the Brownlow from 2005-2007, played in a Premiership and was regarded as one of the best players in the league, perhaps he was in his prime from ages 22-24.

There is no set 'prime' and Kerr's best easily beats Burgoyne's best.

I'd have Jordan Mcmahon feature pretty highly, got pick 19 for him which allowed us to get Ward (few years of decent service + good finals from him), and from that we salvage pick 6 compensation.

Jordan Mcmahon also had a positive effect for richmond, he kicked a winning goal for Richmond vs Melbourne giving them pick 3 to select Martin instead of 1 or 2 which would have been used on Trengrove/Scully.

That dude had a nice net effect for a few clubs.

and I'm sure Jordan had a positive effect on Peter Jackson suit sales

I think some people in here are underselling Burgoyne, and forgetting just how good he was in 06/07/08. Didn't get lots of touches but per possession he was as damaging as anyone.
That being said, I'd have him behind Riewoldt and Kerr, and marginally behind Thompson due to Thompson's consistency and improvement.

1: Riewoldt
2: Kerr
3: Thompson
4: Burgoyne
5: Petrie
6: Cornes
7: Didak
8: Cross
9: Hunt
10: Newman
11: Johncock
12: Cassisi
13: Richards
14: McGrath
15: Kosi
16: Mcphee

Just a question

If we had done this 2 years ago, would anyone have rated Ted Richards in their top 10 ?

30+ years of watching and playing football.
Alright, yeah so that means your opinion is superior to mine... sorry bro for questioning you. I think you might just have a grudge on Didak. Compare their careers and Didak comes out on top. All Australian and leading goalkicker in a premiership year really says enough.

Didak at his best, was at times very good

I don't deny that, but Burgoyne's best was exceptional

Richards shouldn't be up there. He's had a terrible career not including this season.

Would you rather Ted Richards, or Justin Koschitzke

Here are the stats over their entire careers

Richards Kosi

181 Games 195
6.8 Kicks Per Game 7.0
5.5 Handballs Per Game 4.1
12.3 Disposals Per Game 11.1
4.6 Marks Per Game 5.5

What a crap draft.

I thought Geelong trading for Mitchell White and Justin Murphy were among the worst decisions of all time yet because of the draft it doesn't look so bad. Giving up picks 11, 27, 45 and 57 for those spuds is ridiculous but the only one of those picks that did anything was Ted Richards at 27.

Judging drafts is always difficult because really you should take into account what role they play and what they cost. In hindsight do you rate Didak or Josh Hunt higher? There's no doubt Didak has far more potential but he's been incredibly inconsistent whereas Hunt has been a solid contributor and very durable. In terms of output Didak would probably take it but Geelong would be far happier with the outcome of that pick than Collingwood. Sometimes drafting a good long-term contributor does more for your team than a potential superstar who takes up a huge chunk of cap space without ever quite hitting the heights expected.

Stats don't tell the whole story. I believe Kosi has had more of an impact than Richards easily.

Obiosuly Stats are just numbers, but If Richards has another 2 good years, I think he may finish his career as a better player than Kosi.

Justin at his best could be pretty awesome, but Richards has an AA next to his name

So 1 good year makes a career?
Imo he has played 2 good years of footy.

Really? So apart from '06 and '10 he has been a poor player just because he hasn't made the All Australian squad in the other years.

I never said poor player, i said he had 2 good years, but i also think he has been just another player the rest of the time.
Going by your logic just because he made AA he is better than others

Taking into consideration the position he has been playing, I rank Didak fairly highly in small forwards of the last 10 years.

Can only conclusively say he that Stephen Milne has been better than him the last 10 years

Steve Johnson? Didak had a couple of years of brilliance but there's been a lot of mediocre thrown in there and he's struggled big time with injuries.

He was excellent in 2008 and especially 2009 as well playing more time in the midfield. Pre 2006 he was a very good if inconsistent small forward. 2007 and 2011 he was poor coming off injury interruptions, has been a good career though.

I like what you have done here
My father and I have actually slowly been going through all drafts (National & Rookie) and doing a re draft of all of them to see where we personally think players should have been drafted based on the career
I shall post our redraft of the 2000 draft when i can find the spreadsheet
but it looks good

Doesn't read as an overly strong draft - Not a lot of depth.
True, but I still can't believe how badly we screwed it up. Three first round picks and nothing to show for them.
