I have decided to run a knockout competition for the World Cup. The rules are simple, and to start playing, all you need to do is reply in this thread.

You must select a player who you think will score 20 runs or more in the nominated game. If your player scores 20 runs or more, you stay in and continue. If your player scores less then 20 runs, you are knocked out. If your player doesn't play in the game, you are also knocked out.

The winner is the last person left standing.

The further you go in the competition, the harder it will be, but we'll start with 20 runs in the preliminary matches and see how we go.

There will be a nominated game every couple of days with a new thread posted with the names of those still in the competition. The cut off for posting your players is before the first ball is bowled in each match and no editing posts is allowed, so choose your player wisely.

The first game for this competition: South Africa vs West Indies

My chosen player: Herschelle Gibbs - South Africa

Good luck everyone. :)

Glad I got here quick :D

It is possible for a few of us to choose the same player.... the risk being if everyone chooses the same player and he fails to score 20 runs, there wont be anyone left in the competition.

Call it going out on a limb. I doubt he'll even play, he's 15th man.

Gary Kirsten was dropped during there home series against us, correct?

Nah, was referring to my selection. :)

That said, Kirsten is no certainty to play either, but probably will with no G Smith in the squad.

What happens if your player doesnt bat or makes 19*?

Your player must make 20 or more for you to stay in the competition. This is what makes it more of a challenge and therefore more interesting.

No, he'll be watching the World Cup from his lounge room.
Gosh he's fallen from grace quickly. Didn't realise he was dropped. Let alone not in their best XV! I that case Gibbs for me too.

Yeah, must have offended someone.

I can only assume that either Kirsten and Hall will be opening the batting or Kirsten and Gibbs, I reckon probably Hall opening and Gibbs at first drop.
