How are these players going? Im not starting this thread for people to bag these players - they can't be judged this early.

#8 - Kane Tenace
#22 - Cameron Thurley
#42 - Matthew Spencer

Rookies - Jimmy Allan and Luke Buckland

Also whats Mark Blake upto? I heard big raps of him as junior and he hasn't been very noticable lately or talked about.

Thurley was a tatical pick to cover injuries and a lack of arrival of players Tenace and Mackie. There have been few injuries up till now and Tenace has played more than most other Y1 picks we have had .I can think of only Ablett and Bartel who played Ten in their Y1 and then Mackie arrived and demanded a spot.No spot for Thurley.Thats life.He still has next year id think, but somehow he must rise above the good or better than good if he is to get a game.Enright ,Spriggs etc cant get in as well.
Spencer wont get a game till next year, needs work from what I have seen but big boys can just bloom all of a sudden, give him time .He is one of the few non sticks we have drafted to the club.

Give him at least another year in the reserves.

Why use pick 23 or whatever he was on a tactical pick? surely if you wanted experience we could've waited until our last pick in the draft?

The only other ones i can think of would be David Spriggs, and possibly James Kelly. we tend to nurse our kids throuhg their first year a lot more than anyone else. Spriggs played almost every game and towards the end of the year it really showed.

Fair point , One can quickly forget how good for us Sprigg was in his first two years. Kelly , how many did he play? I know they go on about 2nd year blues but how many did he play Y1.

Thurley
I dont think it was experience as much as non rookieness. Thurley was 21ish already been in the V's for a couple, mentally he was ready to step up and his body has had been tempered to more demands. He was also young enough to perhaps to become a Mitchell or a David KIng who was 22 at North in his first game. They hope for some future as well, not just a totally short term choice like a recycled player like a Dimiatina would have been.

It seems odd though that after putting 5 years of quality picks on quality young players he pulls thurley out of the blue. We missed out on a few decent kids to nab a guy who probably will have been around at our last pick. Then again they may reeally have wanted both spencer and thurley, and the guys in his first season so i guess we have to wait and see what he does before we call it a blunder or a winner.

Thompson admitted taking Thurley early but he said he would have gone around pick 30.
