Theoretically if Steven Allessio and Paul Barnard are the only changes to the Essendon List at the time of the draft what type of player do you think Essendon should draft. Should they be a Ruck, KPP, Midfielder, Foward, Back ???
Personally in the first round i think that we should go with another midfielder/athletic player but i dont have any strong preference. Would love to get hold of Farren Ray or Ryley Dunn but that looks to be almost impossible given the pick that we will get.
There is also a 17yr old aboriginal kid from the NT who people say has as much talent as anyone in the draft pool, named Rowan Bonson. Few have heard of him and that is why it would be a big risk to take with a high pick. However if he is still available in the second round i think Sheeds would love the challenge of developing him and frankly if he is as good as people say he is it would be worth the risk!

Had some discussion with some friends as to what we might do.

It's quite possible that we don't take too many 17 year olds this time.

Keep an eye for 5 names.

Nathan Lovett-Murray (from Bendigo)
Ben Haynes (back to rookie list at end of season)
Ken Hall (see Haynes)
Courtney Johns (see Haynes and Hall)
Toby McGrath (still on rookie list)

If this year's draft talent at the 17 year old age is as bad as some people are indicating, we could be better off taking the above option.

Pazza how old is Lovett-Murray?
Why do we have to redraft the guys on our rookie list?
Why would we draft 2 players over 21, McGrath and Hall, who have barely played a game in the seniors, McGrath especially! Hall has proven that he can play in the twos but i could not justify giving him a position in the senior side over some of the younger guys such as Watson, Harvey, Winderlich, Reynolds, and Walsh, next year who will almost certainly be better players in the future for us.
As for Haynes, well i would applaud a decision to keep him, has been impressive so far.

Just hope we dont pick Josh Madden under the father son rule. Saw him play this year for the cannons....he is ****

Yeh fair point as an essendon supporter i dont wanna see tthe young talent going backwards, wont be able to play at afl level at all, is too small for the ruck and cant play KP so where does he play, has skills of a 5 yr old and has the most unko running style around. but then again he's a madden, lets get on or knees and bow to him

I agree, I'm not much of a Josh Madden fan.

Theres another son of a former player down there at Calder called Brent Hartigan hes quite a good player who is worth looking at.

James Ezard and Chris Goullet also from Calder have Essendon bloodlines.

Has anyone seen these players?

Isn't there a young Daniher wandering around as well???

Agree with Pazza regarding most of those guys ending up on our senior list. I think we will try to maintain depth this year (while the draft is low on talent). And try to trade into draft choices next year (when hopefully the depth will be better).

But isn't it an AFL rule that we have to have 4 selections in the national draft.

So if we just maintain these blokes (or elevate them) onto the seniors list than we need to pick 4 other players.

If we delist them and let them nominate for the draft and hope the other clubs leave them alone... isn't that a huge risk??? Be interested in your opinions?

You would imagine that more than just Alessio and Barnard would go, I mean surely they will be looking to get rid of a few of RFK, Davies, etc. I would say at LEAST four blokes will be delisted, maybe another one or two traded.

One bloke who I think the Bombers will look at is Ricky Dyson from Northern. Quick midfielder but his biggest asset is his long raking left foot kick. Only problem is he may go a bit early, he is a Top 10 possibility. Hoping Madden doesn't get picked either.

Like the look of lovett-murray pazza. He has a terrific spring and pace which is what this team needs ,speed. Although if you listen to simon matthews and the team on bombers club corner on sport 927 they flat out reject we are slow. What are that mob smoking. i say draft him he looks exciting.

pace is overrated though
you need to win the footy before you can run with it, or at least have a few players capable of winning it to dish off to you

look at the bulldogs, they've recruited a heap of quick, outside players. they might be quick, but many can't kick on the run (or at all) and they get smashed in contested ball situations)

brisbane had the best midfield the past 2-3 years, but apart from akermanis, none of them were exceptionally quick, and were capable of winning the ball themselves

having said that, i do think we need some quick midfielders, but not for the sole purpose of improving our overall legspeed

Terry Daniher's son Steve played TAC Cup last year at Oakleigh and wasn't taken by the Bombers. I'm not sure where he's playing now.

I used to play with brent hartigan in the EDFL for Tullamarine, he's a half forward flanker/midfielder, his nickname was 'hungry' after Kevin Bartlett, coz he never handballed. I played with him from U10 to U18's . Also played with Jason Harmes, who is Wayne Harmes son, dont know if he is still playing for the cannons though..., he was a pretty got CHF. And Chris Goullet is John Colemans grandson, i never played footy with him, but did play cricket against him in the NWCA, he was good pace bowler...go me out in a semi final a few years back...

IS hartigan still at tulla, heard that he was playing at the cannons, is he playng regulary. did he dominate at local level!!

i think we should help the dogs out :p
Henneman and our 1st or 2nd round pick for their 1st round pick
this would certainly improve our selection and help the needs for a KPP
would also be very happy to get Rob Murphy somehow

To get a first pick you will need to give off someone like lloyd or Mark Johnson, because they are they best player in the country at the moment fr there age so I dont know if bulldogs would do that.

Ha ha ha ha ha .. **** off!!! You're a funny guy! :p:rolleyes:

1st rnd draft pick don't guarantee a star. Travis Johnstone springs to mind. Josh Fraser was taken at No.1 in the same draft as David Hille who was taken in the 2nd round As a ruckman ... the reason he was drafted to Collingwood ... Fraser is well behind Hille.

actually there first round pick would be pick 3 im pretty sure. This is because the first 2 would be priorities (1 bulldogs, 1 Carlton and possibly one for Melbourne)
Therefore im pretty certain that they would do Aaron Henneman, to suit there needs for a KPP, plus about pick 11 for pick 3 ( or there abouts)
