2004 draft prospects???

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

To be honest Falconer, I am yet to hear those names. Got any info on them? If so, could you shed some light? BTW, good to have you back at BigFooty, haven't seen you around for awhile.

Matt Seal plays for East Perth I think.

Mitch Morton is with the AIS and can be picked up by WCE under father/son.

Andrew McQualter
Richard Tambling
Luke Herrington
Callam Burges
that Bonson kid from NT

Those are a few of the prospects I rate highly.

McQualter in particular may surprise a few. Absolute ball magnet.

It's too early to say where he'll go but Tambling will definately be top10.

McQualter is a monster of a ball-winner, much in the mould of James Allan. However, like Allan, McQualtar is very short. And I mean very short for a footy player. But I'd like to see the kid be given a go.
Tambling is a star, enough said. Echo dees_best, will go Top 10, probably Top 5, maybe 1st draft pick.
Herrington, probably unlucky not to be drafted last year. Not tall enough for a Key Position Player but could fit nicely on a flank and play as a floating forward ala Steve Johnson or work as a marking crumber ala Phil Matera, Nathan Brown, Paul Medhurst, though is not as slippery as them and not considered an actual 'goalsneak'.
Burgess: Really surprised me he didn't get drafted, expecially after all the hype surrounding the bloke. Expected him to be Top 20. If he continues his form, should be in the Top 20 again.

Matthew Seal played in a team with him for east perth one year he is awesome.

Brennan Mills is in my house at school got best player for claremont colts this week a year 12 reasonable height in the ais i think is supposed to be awesome.

Kyle Hams- South Fremantle best players this week with his twin brother for souths, both very quick quite small but tough and super good players.

Noticed a couple of weeks ago that the AFL announced that the birthdate for draft eligibilty was being adjusted from 30 June to 30 April. Does anyone know if this will have an effect on the eligibility of any of the touted prospects?

Yeah, Marcus Drum from Murray now misses out by 1 day! There were a couple of others as well.

So the draft pool in theory should be a bit weaker, as there are only 10 months and not 12 months worth of new players coming through.

Wouldn't be happy would you!! Poor bloke's probably worked his you know what out for the last six months thinking that this needed to be his big year :(

Interesting to hear comments on Luke Herrington. Saw him a couple of weeks ago in a practice match. Their were 2 guys in the team with Dreadies & I had to ask which one he was because neither of them seemed any good. He's very 1 dimensional & the opposition team & his direct opponent left him for dead. Maybe I was expecting more but I thought he was ordinary.

Ive seen Herrington play a fair bit this year and he has been pushed up into a mid-field possie. Both players with dreadies are good players (Herrington and Jay Reynolds). Herrington may of had an off game BUT he is one that i think will go in the draft.

Also from the Stingrays is Kym Jones, very tall and fit full forward also gets pushed into the ruck, also Rowan Nayna he is number 30, dark skinned, has the skills of a champion and very fit.

Agree that Kym Jones was good. The opposition on the day I saw them was having a bit of trouble with him. He's big & hard to move. Did he play last Year? Hadnt seen or heard of him until now.

Yer i'm pretty sure that he played last year, just not many games. just a few games every now and then.

McQualter maybe lacks a yard of pace and isnt that short. He has hit the gym since last season. Will go top 20.

Its impossible to tell who will be a first pick for 2004 at this stage. They have only played a game of footy.

On Deledio his old man played a game for Carlton and is a mad Carlton supporter. (Keep your filthy claws of him) *LOL*
Also a champion cricketer .

This is also based on last season's showings. Many experts have already said Tambling is an early choice for the first pick. Last year they predicted Cooney and Dunn to be at the top and they seemed right as both went top 10.

The sort after guys will be the guys from the AIS / AFL under-16 academy. Many of these guys will allready have done enough to be top-30 choices. The two big Vic Metro ruckmen DeLuca and Lynch probably don't even have to play this year to go top 20.

Clubs also look for guys who make an impact as bottom age players and come back for a 2nd year. Guys like Garruba, Knights and Sharp have allready had 10-15 games and been involved in last years Vic Metro squad trial games.

Raphael Clarke was a potential #1.
Walker came from the stars to go at #2.

You really never know, injuries, form play a big part
Interesting to see if Chris Stewart is considered soiled goods as an early pick.

Raph really disappointed in his Championships and made it clear his intent was to play at St.Kilda. However, the fact is he still was rated a high draft pick and he went reasonably high at #8. Walker was pretty much highly rated anyhow.

Stewart has a poor work ethic and really needs to pull his head out of his arse if he is to become an AFL player. Recorded a very very poor beep test during the camp if I am not wrong.

Raph seems weak to me , mentally. He is a taller carbon copy of his brother. (A front runner)sublime skills but doesnt have the mental discipline.(My opinion)
Walker wouldnt have been rated as a top 10 pick in the beginning of the year.
Stewarts beep test, youre not wrong. Probably an all time camp low. His distance run was terrible too.
Good footballer but has a bad attitude and the recruiters know it. So its hard to see them risk an early pick on Stewart with his kind of output. On a positive side, he can do the freakish things and there havent been that many talls in the last couple of drafts that have been any good. Interesting to see how he stacks up against this years crop.

From SA:

Shannon Hurn from Centrals, already built like a tank 189cm 93kg plays on the half back flank, watch for him to go early.

Others are mainly already mentioned Stribling will be a gun, he is a bit like Jarred Rivers to a degree. Angus Monfries is your tough goalkicking midfielder type like your Andrew Embley's etc.

Also look out for Cameron Wood, he is already 203cm, a monster and still growing.

Wasn't that impressive last year. Too short to ruck, needs to become a key position player. Is still very light though. Kicked a big bag on the weekend which might be a good sign.

Kym Monteath from East Fremantle would have to be in consideration. Not sure who he is eligible for under Father/Son.

Luke Blackwell and Nick Sas from Swan Districts

Matthew Seal from East Perth

Jack Regan from Claremont

Le Cras from West Perth

WA should produce quite a few draft picks this year.
