Which one of St Kilda or Geelong will do a Carlton 1999 and pull off a shock thrilling victory and run into an infinately superior team in the Grand Final and get flogged?

Mind you if you take out the thrilling part of it you could say the same about us in 2000...

Carlton were much more capable and developed than either of the saints and geelong iirc.

Only final worth replaying is the Melbourne v Essendon game.....
Agreed. A good close game.
Obviously I enjoyed our beating Geelong but as a spectacle for neutral supporters it was over by 1/2 time.

....This finals has been highlighted for me because of the mighty catters in the mix....
For many people. This year they are the 2nd favourite team of a heck of a lot of us.

...... But do agree it is missing something.
We have had a massive Collingwood publicity blitz at this time over the past two years which, being absent, makes it oddly quiet now.
Also there is a strong belief, and a quiet acceptance, that the other 15 teams are only struggling to see who will be whopped by Brisbane.

Saints flopped against brisbane twice, flopped against port big time, so far have not proven an ability to win big games against top teams. How will they turn it around?
we have beaten the Lions this year and are playing for a spot in the GF, what exactly do they have to turn around?
Seems to be no pleasing some people.

Your optomistic i see, despite your poor record in second half of season.

We'll see come friday ...

the fact that most of them have been at night and in the wet. a day semi and prelim would be a great deal better as a spectacle, and mask perhaps an inferior game.

Since round 10, we have won 7 and lost 7 of our 14 matches, including a 1-1 record in the finals.

Maybe that isn't sparkling form, but "poor" is very harsh, imo.

Sure, but lets be honest cats and saints just dont seem capable. There is a bit of a lack of top end depth this year vis-a-vis previous years.
Top end depth ? What are you on about ? Didn't you go to the 2003 GF - saw no depth there. It's great that some new teams are kicking arse. As it should be.

The bigger downer IMO was last year when it was painfully obvious that Collingwood were treading water.

Yes Brisbane are unbackable favs but at least we are seeing young sides with genuine talent coming through....they may not challenge this year but lets remember Brisbane went out in straight sets their first campaign...

Hoping for good contests this week and if the sainters cant get over the line hope Geelong can to shove it up em.
