Who will the Bucks take at 6?
Most probably Conley, but Noah or Wright may slip

I think with Conley leading the team, and Simmons, Redd, CharlieV and Bogut healthy all season they may push for a playoff spot. They should look at getting a decent SF like R.Lewis or G.Wallace or maybe even draft Brewer instead of Conley and run Mo/Boykins as their points

Celtics luck all gone it seems. The ultra crap certainly have not been rewarded this year. Hoping somone wants to give up someone good for #5 due to the depth.

This is why i hate this system of drafting and i hope it never comes to the AFL.

Memphis deserved/needed the best player out there to help them more so than a side like Portland with their good young core of players.

In other words a team thats already better than Memphis by a bit just got a shitload better than them.

I guess the NBA system isn't about equalizing teams.

Who tanked?

Boston and Memphis had their best players out for a great part of the season.

Or don't you follow basketball?
Oh you guys tanked. Even Gomes come out and said it that Celtics wanted the bad record to get a chance at the top 2 picks. Don't pretend that you didn't. Sure you had your fair share of injuries but you did throw a few games to secure the 2nd worse record in the NBA.

Disagree, the sooner this comes in the better IMO

Means at least teams wont tank like they have been in the last few seasons.

Fair share of injuries?

Pierce missed a massive chunk of the season.
Szerb hardly played.
Allen did his knee.
West was in and out all season.
Perkins was playing injured all season.

I don't see how we were trying to tank when we beat teams like Cleveland and Detroit along the way.

Pierce didn't play the last week and a bit of the season and as soon as the season ends he's in for surgery and out of USA selection consideration, doesn't that suggest his elbow really is an issue?

You didn't tank. No teams tank in the AFL and that ascertion is plain dumb.

You were shit, that's why you got low picks.

4 things to think about here

1) Atlanta got a top 3 pick. They need a C or a PG and are stacked at forward positions. They also get pick 11 from Indy. I think they will explore the possibility of trading down to pick up Conley or Hibbert/Hawes. Conley is good but he is not 3rd best player in the draft. I think teams like Bucks, Wolves, Bobcats, Bulls and Kings all have a chance to trade up and get what they like if they can pick Conley for the Hawks.

2) Memphis really wanted Oden. Their best player is a PF and is played out of position at C. How long will they continue to do that? Will they trade him? Will they continue to play him out of position at C? or will they trade down or out of the draft completely to get what they need?

3) Celtics are another team in the PF glut part of the draft. They have Jefferson. Do they draft Brewer? Do they draft Yi and play Al at C? Do they trade out of the draft or do they trade down to get something they like and get rid off one of their bad contracts?

4) Portland just created a dynasty. Oden/LaMarcus/Roy/Webster/Jack and to that Rodrigez and they have a great young core. Zach instantly becomes a trade bait that could land Portland another couple of young guns to add to this core. They just got kisses on the ding ding by a fairy, TWICE!

DUDE your player came out and said you wanted to clinch that 2nd worse record. I think he would know a bit more than you or I! Agree? ;)

If anything today showed that tanking (i'm not suggesting either the Celtics or Grizzlies did this) will not gaurantee you the top pick. Having a lottery ensures as best possible that teams play as hard as the can throughout the season and still ensuring that the worst teams still have the BEST chance at getting the top picks and thus improving.

He said that when we were already stuffed, hardly making a big call there, when no matter what he said the reason we were shit was because we didnt have the players to win games.

But answer this one simple question with a one word team answer.

Who needed/deseved the #1 pick more, Memphis or Portland?.

Geez u are living in fairy land.

Collingwood
Hawthorn
Essesndon
Carlton
Richmond
North

All tanked over the last few years, u dont believe that then u are kidding urself.

Tanking involves the very subtle move of playing the kids be4 they are ready and resting stars and sending them to early surgery when teams relise that there season is GONE by about round 15.

Having the lottery system means teams on the verge of being great can become even greater, while teams on the verge of being shit(memphis) just fall farther behind.

If teams do tank it's never til the last 2 weeks.

Strangely enough they are in a position to do this because strangely enough they have been shit all season which has put them in that position.

Why should teams be rewarded for being crap ?
The NBA and AFL are professional, money making competitions. Its not Auskick.

The NBA has a great system and the sooner its brought to the AFL, the better.

Or it could be that those teams are legitimately shit.

Look at the teams you have listed.

Besides the pies and hawks the rest are shit.

They aren't tanking, they are really shit.

Bring in the NBA system and you could have Hawthorn getting the number 1 pick over Richmond.

That'll make the league more equal

Clearly there is no perfect system, but at least the lottery system helps keep the integrity of the league intact. Obviously both the Celtics and Grizzlies were unlucky to not get a top 2 pick and Portland got very lucky, but even with the non-lottery system teams can get lucky and land the #1 pick, the Spurs landed TD due to a season long injury to David Robinson.

You're right, the lottery does occasionally give mediocre teams the star kid they need to push them over the top, but that's the romance of the draft. At the end of the day most things even out and the shit teams will still get the top picks, but more often than not shit teams are shit due to bad GM's and even when they do get top picks the GM screws it up anyway.

Portland (ages) and draft number (If they draft Oden):

C - Oden (19), pick 1 (2007)
PF - Aldridge (21), pick 2 (2006)
PF - Randolph (25), pick 19 (2001)
SF - Webster (20), pick 6 (2005)
SF Outlaw (22), pick 23 (2003)
SG - Roy - (22), pick 6 (2006)
PG - Rodriguez (20), pick 27 (2006)
PG - Jack (23), pick 22 (2005)

Is that a dynasty? Looks like it.
