Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Hey Danz... ya got anything that's less than 10 years old? Cos that would be the last time you beat us wouldn't it?:D

OK, no more from me I'm on my honeymoon until tuesday... then I'll get into this good and proper...:thumbsu:

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

This week @ Dallas and the Packers with some injury concerns, I'll be going for the Cowboys to win pretty comfortably.

When it matters, no matter where it is, in the NFC Championship, provided both teams are full- strength, I'll be locking in the Packers.

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Traditional Rivals these two are despite being in different divisions. This one goes back to the Ice Bowl in the 60s. In the mid 90s, Dallas was Green Bay's bogey team, with Dallas eliminating Green Bay in the playoffs in three consecutive years. However, all those encounters were in Dallas. Green Bay finally got the Cowboys at Lambeau in their title defence year of '97 where they got revenge.

Good to see this rivalry heat up again.

Guarenteed to be a HUMDINGER... perhaps T.O. to do a Handstand in the endzone after he scores... :p

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Last time the away team in this matchup won?

1991, Dallas 20-17 in Milwaukee.

Last time Green Bay won at Dallas? 1989

Most recent meeting was in 2004, where the Pack won 41-20 (got this on DVD if all the resident Cowpoke fans want a copy...)

All that means jack shit though, both teams are very different now.

Yep... Dallas is a lot better!!

Just wave the flag now Fuey... it would save me a week of harassment to you

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Haha, just looked at the Youtube thingy...

The intelligence of Cowboy fans huh? Collectively I think they have a brain the size of a peanut. For some reason, about a minute into it, they have a photo of some kid from LSU Tigers?

What the?!?!?

and they end it with Jay Novacek pretending he can fly... yep that's the last time the cowboys had any success against the Packers.

Dare I say it, but you guys probably will win this week.

BUT, this Packer team is probably as good as our Superbowl teams of the mid-90s. We'll see you again, bank on it.

I'll be back in a sec with more! certain to provide some debate...

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Green Bay vs Dallas will be a classic and exciting game.
But it wont really matter too much in context of the NFC.
It wont decide Home Field advantage either.

Imo, the biggest game of the week is definitely Indianapolis vs Jacksonville.
Jags have a real good shot at winning this division.
Indy as WC?!
If Pittsburgh loses today, another big month ahead focusing on the AFC North.
Pittsburgh and Cleveland for the division title.
Pittsburgh has a tough month ahead too.
Pittsburgh as WC?!

Indianapolis will lay their **** down... a few quiet weeks... uncharacteristic... they will put an end to any challenge. ;)

C'mon dude, I don't think you're dumb, but that's just stupid...

Both teams are 10-1, 3 games in front of their nearest rival, and have shit easy schedules after this matchup. The winner will probably go 15-1, the loser 14-2.

Something amazing would have to happen for this not to decide home field.

That's what I'm saying if you read between the lines.
Dallas and/or GB will drop another game.

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Dallas Pass O Vs. Green Bay Pass D
Dallas has weapons, no doubt. Romo to Owens is a dangerous combo Glenn (when playing) and Crayton feed off Owens being double covered. BUT the Packers have the two best cover corners in the league. Woodson and Harris can both go one-on-one with Owens, with minimal safety help.

The Packer D-Line has a bunch of talented pass rushers inside and out, one of those being the best DE in the NFL, Aaron Kampman. The Dallas O-Line has talent, and cohesiveness, but the right side is over-rated, IMO. Davis and Columbo can be beaten, and there's a reason both ex-first rounders were let go by their original team.

The one "advantage" Dallas has over Green Bay is Jason Witten, the TE. Great receiver, and the Packers struggle against the TE when the LB is lined up against them. Not so much when a Safety plays on the TE though.

The Packers weakness, is penalties. All our DBs are aggressive and physical, and like to make contact with receivers, sometimes a little too late, giving easy yards to the opposition.

Dallas Run O Vs Green Bay Run D
Cowboys have two good RBs, Jones and Barber, but neither is great. But they play their roles to perfection. The O-Line are your typical road-graders, better run blockers than pass protectors.

The strength of the Packers D, is the depth along the defensive line. Offenses like Dallas', rely on wearing the opposition D-Line down and running down the clock late in the game. That's not a problem for Green Bay however. There is no drop in play when backups Jolly, Williams, Harrell and Cole come into the lineup. Packers MLB, Nick Barnett is in all-pro form too. He and AJ Hawk both run sideline to sideline, and can make a lot of plays.

Green Bay Pass O Vs Dallas Pass D
Favre has the deepest group of receivers he's ever had in his career. Driver, Jennings, Jones, Robinson, Martin and Lee. None are burners, but all have good hands and make plays after the catch. The O-Line is young, but their protection is first rate. Only give up about one sack per game.

Dallas' Terrence Newman is a sensational CB. Very underrated, and can make plays. The other, Anthony Henry, is ok, but can be beaten consistently. Both Safeties, are liabilities in pass coverage. For them to be effective, they need the OLB, Ware and Ellis to effectively rush and get pressure on the QB. If they don't its easy pickings down the middle.

Green Bay Run O Vs Dallas Run D
Obviously, the Packers major deficiency. Don't have the most talented group of backs, but like Dallas, they know their roles. The O-line can struggle in our zone blocking scheme also, probably a little under-sized also. But that may work well against the Dallas D, as they play 3-4, and the D-Line is smaller than a 4-3 D-Line.

The Dallas front 3 are solid, but again, the D-Line is there to let the LBs make plays. James and Ayodele are an underrated pair, Ware and Ellis solid against the run. They should be able to hold the Green Bay backs relatively well. Great tackling Safeties too, so if the front 7 don't make the play, Williams or Hamlin usually will.

Dallas...
Could lose any of the following games: GB, Detroit (have the mickey), Phi, Was.

Green Bay...
Could lose any of the following games: Dallas, StL, Chi, Det.

Ie, If Dallas beats GB, GB could still take Home Field if Dallas drops a couple games. And likewise the other way.

I dont think both teams win out after week 13.

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

nice write-up........not overly biased either......is it your work?? ;)

Massive call. I think they look good at the moment but I wouldn't go so far as to say they are anything special.

Driver is sensational and underrated... that bloke fights for every yard.

Jennings seems to be coming on... Jones having that game where he fumbled two or three balls really opened the door for this guy, blessing in disguise perhaps.... but you've got Driver... Jennings is showing signs of life... the rest are just role players.

Re: Green Bay v Dallas Cowboys - Week 13

Remember, Detroit aint just playing spoilers.
They have a legitimate shot for a WC.
Will be just as hungry.
Detroit coming back to play GB a second time so soon will also make that game 50-50 with re-scheming against GB.
When you play an opponent so soon after you played them before, you often see a reversal of result.

very hypothetical, gg. yes any team can knock GB or Dallas off, but question is, will they? for this game not to decide the home adv in the NFC, the winner will need to drop at least 2 games in the final stretch......cant see it happening.

Did anyone see the carnage of upsets in week 12?

Speaking of upsets, the most boring game in NFL history is currently in progress, between the Fins and the Steelers: 0-0 in the 3rd.

It is, but I find it fascinating watching a rookie making his mark in the NFL. And watching the Dolphins per se hanging in there and trying to upset a giant.
Steelers losing to Jets (1/2 wins) and Dolphins (0) would be huge.

The Packers weakness, is penalties.

I could have sworn Dallas was the most penalized team in the history of the world, but looking at the stats GB is worse! (2nd worst in league behind Cards....on the flipside, Seahawks are the goody two shoes of the league with the least yards penalized)

The O-Line are your typical road-graders, better run blockers than pass protectors.

Without looking at the stats (can't be bothered racking my brain over at footballoutsiders lol) I'd say the opposite is true i.e. better pass-blocking (even though we should be better at run-blocking due to the mammoth-ness of the line)
