7:30pm Friday September 24: Own player bidding starts
7:30pm Friday October 1: Opposition player bidding starts, all bids inactive, no limits on number of bids
8:30pm Friday October 15: Trading starts, all leading inactive opposition bids become active, all future opposition bids active, father-son player nomination closes
8:30pm Friday October 29: Opposition father-son pick nomination closes
8:30pm Friday November 5: Father-son pick matching closes
6pm Saturday November 20: Trading, opposition bidding closes
6pm Thursday November 25: Own player bidding closes (i.e. you have to have met the requirements below)

What you need at the end

• A senior list of exactly 38*, including:
  • Listed contracted players
  • At least 3 National Draft picks including any acquired through trading and any earlier picks than these acquired ones
  • Any Pre Season Draft picks used in the bidding process, and any earlier picks.
  *Exceptions:
  • Wagga Wagga can have an extra two if they wish
  • Launceston can have as many as they like
• A veterans list of no more than 2
• Total player payments less than or equal to $8,250,000* for players including
  • Any senior listed player
  • Any delisted contracted player
  • Any retained rookie listed player
  *Exceptions:
  • West Coast $8,750,000
  • St Kilda Titans $8,550,000
  • Collingwood $8,400,000
  • Port Adelaide $8,300,000
  • Launceston $3,300,000
  • Wagga Wagga $8,250,000 plus $105,000 for each extra senior list spot used and $44,000 for each extra rookie list spot used (max $8,636,000)

Bidding
Bidding is for uncontracted players only. These players are listed at the end of this post. The numbers before the names are for trading only, they have nothing to do with bidding.

All bids are final. If you offer a player a contract and nobody beats it, you will get that player. If he retires at any point after the offer you still get him and pay 100% of his salary in 2011 (unless a new career-ending injury comes up between the time of your bid and the lists deadline, then you may be entitled to only pay 50%).

Once a player has been obtained through bidding, he cannot be traded or otherwise moved around.

Bidding on opponents' players
A bid on an opposition player consists of 3 things - a salary (between $126,000 and $1,031,000*), a duration (1 to 5 years) and a pre-season draft round where you will use your pick to claim the player. You can use whatever round you like (except Launceston who have only 4 picks) but if you are successful in a bid, you must use that pick to take the player, and all your PSD picks prior to that. To beat the existing leading bid you must:

• Match the salary;
• Match the value (salary multiplied by duration); and
• Match the draft pick round (where there is one)^

and either

• Beat the salary by $10,000;
• Beat the value by $25,000; or
• Beat the draft pick round by 1^

If Wagga are successful with a bid on one of their nominated players (underlined in list below), the salary they pay that player will at that point be reduced by 10% (and rounded up to the next full $1000). They MUST NOT make their bids with the 10% reduction included. If they bid $450k and the previous bid was $500k, the $500k bid wins.

Each club can make a maximum of three bids on each player

^Not required by Wagga on their nominated players

Bidding on your own players

Trading

What you can trade

• Any national draft pick
• Contracted players on your senior, rookie or veterans lists
• Uncontracted players on your senior, rookie or veterans lists
• Players retained via the bidding process
• Players obtained via trading

What you can't trade

• Any pre-season draft pick
• Any rookie pick
• Players obtained from another club via the bidding process
• Any players where you've used one of the special rules below to get a new contract for 2010.
• Any players who have been with the club you're trading with this off season

To be a valid trade

• Both clubs must confirm the trade prior to the deadline
• The receiving club must post the contract details for any previously uncontracted player they are receiving
  • This contract must have a salary of at least the number before the player's name in the post above
  • This contract must have a value and salary greater than or equal to the leading bid on the player at the time of posting the trade.

Extending contracted players contracts
When receiving a contracted player you are giving him a new contract. If you don't mention new details when posting the trade then the contract you are signing him on is the same salary he was on at the previous club for whatever time was left on that contract. If you wish to contract him for longer you can extend the contract in accordance with the following table, where the left hand column is the salary (in $1000s) for a 1 year deal and right hand column is for a 5 year deal.

Delistments
This is for contracted players only. Delisting an uncontracted player is simple - don't offer him a new deal.

• If you delist a contracted player who ends up on a 2011 AFL list and doesn't get a second chance with another TM club, you must pay out his contract in full.
• If you delist a contracted player who ends up on a 2011 AFL list and another TM club's list, you must pay out the difference between his contract with you and whatever he ends up with at his new TM club.
• If you delist a contracted player who doesn't fit the above criteria and doesn't find an AFL club for 2011, you may pay him only 75%* of his salary for the remainder of his contract.
• If you delist a contracted player who has been forced to retire from the AFL through injury, you may apply to pay him only 50%* of his salary for the remainder of his contract.
• If you delist a contracted player who has walked away from the game just because he doesn't want to play any more (e.g. Nathan Ablett, not Ken McGregor), you may apply to tear up his contract and pay him nothing.

*If you sign this contract (including extension rules and rookie promotions) during this off season, you must pay his full salary for 2011 before the part-payment in subsequent years.

For those rules you have to apply for, you must first apply, then after the response is posted in this post, you must confirm whether you wish to go through with the delistment.

When paying out a contract with more than 1 year to run, you can choose to pay out the whole contract in 2011 instead of having the annual payment each year. It is 1 year or the lot, nothing in between.

Father-Son Players
Clubs wishing to draft players under the father-son rules must nominate these players prior to the opening of trading. Once a player is nominated by his father's club, then other clubs can nominate a draft pick for him (one bid per club per player). This will be open for 2 weeks. While a club has the leading bid on a father/son player, they must keep that pick, or a higher one, on their list at all times.

The father's club then has 7 days to nominate a pick no more than 20 picks later than the nominated pick that they will use to take the player. If they do not do this, then the club with the leading bid will take the player with their nominated pick, or a better one if that pick has been traded. This selected pick then cannot be traded. If a club successfully nominates their fourth or later pick and does not have room to take that many picks, they will use their last pick in the draft to take that player.

These players will not have salaries, and will go back into the draft pool at the end of the season. Draft order will be in order of how close you got to using your full salary cap including a full rookie list (i.e. if you fill up your rookie list and use every dollar of your cap, you get pick 1).

Then before round 1, each club nominates which rookie or supp will be available for selection in place of each player unavailable because of a bye. All rookies/supps must be nominated the same number of times across the season (including finals).

1. Was only 7 last year but that's because rizzo had 50 on his rookie list.
2. Don't know. I'll try to manipulate the fixture to minimise these issues, but the best control you have over it is to make room for rookie picks. If you have 6 on there I can't imagine it being a problem too often.
