Righto Guys,
After the Trading Period, disposing of Fev and gaining a couple of great young players, this is how our potential list is shaping up.

Primary List (39 Players):
Andrew Walker, Jordan Russell, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Chris Judd, Kade Simpson, Adam Bentick, Matthew Kreuzer, Chris Johnson, Richard Hadley, Bradley Fisher, Steven Browne, Shaun Grigg, Setanta OhAilpin, Paul Bower, Eddie Betts, Mark Austin, Shaun Hampson, Adam Hartlett, Nick Stevens, Joey Anderson, Dennis Armfield, Cameron Cloke, Heath Scotland, Jarrad Waite, Jordan Bannister, Bret Thornton, Ryan Houlihan, Simon Wiggins, Jake Edwards, Michael Jamieson, Andrew Carrazzo, Robbie Warnock, Chris Yarran, Mitch Robinson, Rhys O'Keeffe, Caleb Tiller, Brock McLean & Lachlan Henderson.

Rookie List (8 Players):
Greg Bentley
Darren Pfeiffer
Jeffrey Garlett
Sam Jacobs
Lachie Hill
Aaron Joseph
David Ellard
Luke Stanton

Primary Listed: 39.
Rookies: 8.
Total: 47.

It is almost certain that we will end up with a Primary List of 38 Players and 8 Rookies, of which at least one will be a Nominated Rookie.

We have National Draft Picks: 12, 43, 59 & 75. (We will probably use the first 2 and maybe the 3rd dependant on de-listings).
We have PSD Picks: 10, 26 etc. (Might use 1).
We have Rookie Picks: 10, 26, 42, 58, 76 & 92 (probably take 5 or 6). Peter Labi from Papua New Guinea already signed up.

Summary: We have to make at least 3 further changes to the Primary list during the Draft Period. This year we can upgrade Rookies rather than draft new kids.
Taking into account that 2nd year Rookies have to be either upgraded or delisted, we have a bit of a dilemma on our hands. It goes without saying that Aaron Joseph is a certainty to be upgraded to the Primary List. Sam Jacobs is a near certainty. David Ellard is a possibility. Jeffrey Garlett can remain on the Rookie List and be the Nominated Rookie. The others, well who knows?

I reckon there could be as many as 8 players chopped before the Lists are finalised. We already have 1 too many on the Primary List and with the likely 2 upgrades would mean we have 3 too many. Then there are the Drafts, so add another 3 at least. That means 6 have to go from the Primary List and we would probably chop a few Rookies unless the club feels the talent pool is shallower than what we already have. I expect at least 2 Rookies will get their marching orders.

I will keep upgrading this thread as changes occur providing the situation as it stands and further options. I trust the above info makes sense to you all. ;)

Re: 2010 List Development (First De-Listings)

Righto Guys,
After the Trading Period, the first of the De-Listings have been announced and our list now looks like this:

De-Listed from Primary List: Adam Bentick, Adam Hartlett, Jake Edwards & Jordan Bannister.

Primary List (35 Players):

Andrew Walker, Jordan Russell, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Chris Judd, Kade Simpson, Matthew Kreuzer, Chris Johnson, Richard Hadley, Bradley Fisher, Steven Browne, Shaun Grigg, Setanta OhAilpin, Paul Bower, Eddie Betts, Mark Austin, Shaun Hampson, Nick Stevens, Joey Anderson, Dennis Armfield, Cameron Cloke, Heath Scotland, Jarrad Waite, Bret Thornton, Ryan Houlihan, Simon Wiggins, Michael Jamieson, Andrew Carrazzo, Robbie Warnock, Chris Yarran, Mitch Robinson, Rhys O'Keeffe, Caleb Tiller, Brock McLean & Lachlan Henderson.

De-Listed from Rookie List: Darren Pfeiffer, Lachie Hill & Luke Stanton.

Rookie List (5 Players): Greg Bentley, Jeffrey Garlett, Sam Jacobs, Aaron Joseph & David Ellard.

Primary Listed: 35.
Rookies: 5.
Total: 40.

It is almost certain that we will end up with a Primary List of 38 Players and 8 Rookies, of which at least one will be a Nominated Rookie.

We have National Draft Picks: 12, 43, 59 & 75. (We will probably use the first 2 and maybe the 3rd dependant on further de-listings).

We have PSD Picks: 10, 26 etc. (Might use 1).

We have Rookie Picks: 10, 26, 42, 58, 76 & 92 (We will probably take 5 or 6 depending on Upgrades and further removals).

Summary: I reckon there could be as many as another 3 Primary List players chopped before the Lists are finalised. We are now short of 3 players on the Primary List and with the likely 2 upgrades this would mean we only have 1 pick in the forthcoming Drafts. Not likely, as we need to get new blood in with the next few drafts being compromised. I expect further Rookie List axing’s as well and who knows there might be some re-rookieing to be done.

I don't pretend to understand all the drafting rules.

Nick Stevens will retire so that opens up a spot. So in the first place wouldn't it work like Henderson takes Fev's place on the list. Mclean takes Stevo's place. Effectively no change to the list. We've delisted 4 players which gives us the opportunity to add four players to our list. We have three reasonable picks in the national draft #12, #43 and #59. Is #75 our next pick? Can that be used to promote a rookie to the senior list? That would look after one of the rookies. The second one could be the nominated rookie. Garlett could be named as a rookie again this year. Long term injuries happen and there is no guarantee Jarrad Waite will play at the start of the season. Garlett could sneak onto the list as a replacement. I wouldn't be worried about the futures of Bentley or Ellard as I think both would struggle at this level of footy.

Keep the thread going and Go Blues.

Reports on another site from a very reliable poster that Bentley has been given the flick, but I will wait for official word before updating the list. ;)

Thank God for that.

Don't know why he wasn't officially delisted in the first list lodgement.

Not having a dip J, but what do you see in him ?

I just think he's been very harshly done by on here.

Sure, he's not a world beater by any stretch of the imagination but he is a solid footballer.

People judge him far too harshly on the few mistakes he made (eg. a fumble against Hawthorn) and tend to not raise mention of the solid things he did in the games he played - eg. put his body on the line, get in the right positions etc.

As I said, he's never going to be a great footballer but there's no reason why he can't be a contributor. He showed he has the ability to play senior football so I'd be disappointed to cut him after 1 season. Besides, as a rookie, I'm not sure what else he could have done. He was given the chance to play senior football as a rookie listed player and he was OK. He was a regular goalkicker in the VFL seniors kicking an average of a goal per game. He was named in the best in the VFL 3 times.

When he was dropped down to the VFL reserves for one game he was named 2nd BOG.

Supporters are easily made an impression upon by what a player does early in their career and it's almost impossible for a player to change that perception. Bentley became a whipping boy amongs Carlton supporters due to being nervous in his debut against Hawthorn and people from there on held a view that Bentley is shit. Which he isn't.

Righto Guys,

After the First List Lodgement, there have been further amendments to our playing group announced and it now looks like this:

De-Listed from Primary List: Adam Bentick, Adam Hartlett, Jake Edwards & Jordan Bannister.

Traded Out: Brendan Fevola.

Retired: Nick Stevens.

Traded In: Brock McLean & Lachlan Henderson.

Rookie Upgrades: Aaron Joseph & Sam Jacobs.

Primary List (36 Players):

1. Andrew Walker
2. Jordan Russell
3. Marc Murphy
4. Bryce Gibbs
5. Chris Judd
6. Kade Simpson
7.
8. Matthew Kreuzer
9. Chris Johnson
10. Richard Hadley
11. Robbie Warnock
12. Mitch Robinson
13. Chris Yarran
14. Bradley Fisher
15. Steven Browne
16. Shaun Grigg
17. Setanta OhAilpin
18. Paul Bower
19. Eddie Betts
20. Rhys O'Keeffe
21. Mark Austin
22. Shaun Hampson
23.
24.
25.
26. Joey Anderson
27. Dennis Armfield
28. Cameron Cloke
29. Heath Scotland
30. Jarrad Waite
31.
32. Bret Thornton
33. Ryan Houlihan
34. Simon Wiggins
35. Caleb Tiller
36.
37.
39. Sam Jacobs
40. Michael Jamieson
41.
42.
43.
44. Andrew Carrazzo
45. Aaron Joseph
??. Brock McLean
??. Lachlan Henderson

De-Listed from Rookie List: Darren Pfeiffer, Lachie Hill & Luke Stanton.

Added to Rookie List: Zach Tuohy - International (Ireland) & Peter Labi - International (PNG) :)

Rookie List (5 Players):

38. Jeffrey Garlett
46. David Ellard
47. Greg Bentley
??. Zach Tuohy - International (Ireland)
??. Peter Labi - International (PNG)

Primary Listed: 36.
Rookies: 5.
Total: 41.

It is almost certain that we will end up with a Primary List of 38 Players and 8 Rookies, of which at least one will be a Nominated Rookie.

At the moment we have National Draft Picks: 12 & 43 We are expected to use those 2 and dependant on further de-listings may use additional picks 59 & 75.

We have PSD Picks: 10, 26 etc. We might use 1.

We will have at least 3 Rookie Picks: We will probably take 4 or 5 depending on Upgrades and further removals.

Summary: I reckon there could be as many as another 2 Primary List players chopped before the Lists are finalised. We are now short of 2 players on the Primary List and if David Ellard was upgraded this would mean we only have 1 Pick in the forthcoming Drafts. Not likely, as we need to get new blood in with the next few drafts being compromised. With the new AFL 3 year Rookie rule, he can be retained on our Rookie List for another year if he agrees. If so, we still have only 2 Picks in the National Draft. On that basis, it is obvious there is more culling to come before the List Lodgement of the 15th November. I expect further Rookie List axing’s as well and who knows there might be some re-rookieing to be done. ;)

I will keep upgrading this thread as changes occur providing the situation as it stands and further options. I trust the above info makes sense to you all.

Great effort to get all of that information up BB. I wasn't aware that the someone could stay on the rookie list for 3 years now, so you would have to think that Ellard is safe, as long as he agrees.

Also great that Jacobs has been upgraded onto the senior list as well. Hopefully he can have an injury free year next year as well.

It's now too late for more rookie upgrades.

Nothing concrete, but talk about Cloke, Fisher, Bentley and Ellard still. Should get more feedback in a few days. ;)

Given that Fisher is still contracted for 2010, you'd think we'd retain him for another 12 months. No point paying his contract out next year when we don't have to.

Stranger things have happened. I believe that they are waiting on the outcome of the Cloke standoff. If Clokey goes, then Fish is a certainty to stay, but if Clokey stays then who knows? Salary cap is not a problem as it is whispered that all of Stevo's 2010 contract amount is counted in 2009.

Just got told on another site that Ellard can not be upgraded now, so will have to be retained on Rookie List for a 3rd year if he agrees. ;)

Can we have two nominated rookies again this year given that we don't have anyone on the veterans list? Garlett would be a monty to be one - maybe Ellard the other.

Correctamundo. Apparently Ellard only agreed to the 3rd year yesterday after they did the list up and Bentley got back from O/S after as well and they wanted to tell him face to face. Hearing there is a possibility that a player or 2 might be chopped from the Primary List and then Rookied to free up room for further picks. There also might be some of our chopped players invited to train till the drafts and if they show enough might be rookied or re-rookied. Watch this space! ;)

Update:

Primary List as above: 36 Players (Currently 2 vacancies = 2 picks in ND).

Rookie List after Bentley Axing: 4 Players including the 2 Internationals (4 -5 vacancies, dependant on Labi status).

Summary: 6 – 7 new Blues coming soon.

I think that there still might be one more name to be chopped from the primary list tbh.
