Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

Can't say but they are from credible sources within the teams.

Trust me, it will be in the news soon enough.

You could be right:

The makeup of ProTour nations appears set to shift again this fall as Continental team Fly V Australia is on the verge of attaining top-level registration for 2011. According to a report in The Australian, the team has been extended an August 31 deadline for submitting its registration with the UCI.

“It is believed (team owner Chris) White is about 10 days away from officially naming the consortium of backers, both offshore and domestic, to secure a ProTour license following extensive talks with the Union Cycliste Internationale in Switzerland,” said the report.

Director Henk Vogels confirmed to VeloNews that the announcement was imminent. The former European pro also confirmed that the team is in final negotiations with a new title sponsor and that the team’s budget should more than double for 2011. According to Vogels, V Australia Airlines will remain as a secondary sponsor.

In the report, White said that “the world of cycling has been talking about establishing an Australian ProTour team for a number of years and now it’s just about to happen. Fly V will be well funded and resourced and we will want to compete at the highest level and that includes the Tour de France next July.”

White is en route to the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah in the western U.S. this week. Vogels indicated that the trip is related to sponsor negotiations. The team is a favorite in the GC, with former Barloworld rider and 2009 runner-up Darren Lill, VeloNews 2009 Domestic Climber of the Year Phil Zajicek and team leader Ben Day.

The Fly V Australia roster this year includes riders with European pedigrees, including Day, Lill and Aaron Kemps. The prestige and increased budget that come with ProTour registration would put White on track to sign more European-based Aussies in the off-season. A number of Australian professionals, including Garmin-Transitions’ Cameron Meyer, have told VeloNews that a national team at the top level of the sport, akin to Team Sky in Great Britain, would be a very attractive proposition.

“We’ve got a lot of guys who could ride in the ProTour, but up to now there hasn’t been an Australian team for them to aspire to,” White said in The Australian report. “Cadel Evans, Michael Rogers, Mark Renshaw, Simon Gerrans, Stuey O’Grady, Richie Porte and Wes Sulzberger currently ride for either American, French, British or Danish teams.”

According to the report, the team will be based in Belgium. “While the ProTour license isn’t a fait accompli, I’m confident that given road cycling’s global reach, the time is now right to establish a ProTour team to race in Europe and at the Tour de France next year,” said White.

If they get the all clear to step up surely they'd be better off going after a younger sprinter like Goss or someone else with upside than add to McEwen's super.

Sastre has signed for new team Geox

Former Tour de France winner joins new cycling team
2008 Tour de France winner, Carlos Sastre, has announced that he will leave Cervelo TestTeam at the end of the season in order to join Team Geox for 2011. The Italian shoe manufacturer has taken over the sponsorship of the Footon-Servetto outfit and Sastre is their first major signing.
“The trust that they‘ve placed in me since the very first conversation has been the most important factor that has pushed me towards this new project, but the background and experience of its leaders has also had an influence as they’ve been in cycling for years and years", said the Spaniard.
“At the moment, I’m enjoying riding more than ever as I’ve rediscovered the fighting cyclist that’s always been inside me. This new challenge is exciting and it will provide me with what I’ve been fighting for all my life”, he added.
“We met each other and signed a contract in just two days," said Team Geox's General Manager Mauro Gianetti.
"It was enough to explain him the guidelines of the project from Geox and we instantly had a good feeling. All of us have got to know his extraordinary results, but the main reasons were his ambition and big professionalism. I'm confident that Sastre will be able to find new motivation in this new squad. We chose him not only because of his big palmarès, but also because of the focus he's setting on the upcoming years."
Sastre signed for Cervelo in 2008, just after his Tour de France triumph at CSC. His win was a surprise to many but his stage winning performance on the Alpe d’Huez and a strong final time trial were two outstanding performances that carried him to yellow.
In 2009 he finished third in the Giro d’Italia, winning two stages along the way. However his Tour was a disaster and he struggled to compete for the yellow jersey, eventually finishing in 17th position.
His 2010 season has been a disappointment to date. He crashed and injured himself during the Giro d’Italia but finished an admirable 8th overall in Verona. However he was once again off the pace in the Tour de France and finished 20th overall. His best result this season came at the Clasica San Sebastian, where he finished third.
Sastre is scheduled to ride the Vuelta which starts August 28.
“This decision will not alter anything regarding my participation in the Vuelta a España. What’s more, it is spurring me on even more to fight it out in a race that I really like and which I feel a lot of respect and fondness for. Now I just hope that the team will give me the chance to race with team mates who, like me, want to fight for this race”, said Sastre.

Going to be a shit fight for licences this year

Kreuziger signs with Astana...

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/kreuziger-signs-with-astana

After five seasons with Liquigas, Czech Roman Kreuziger will leave the team with which he began his professional career and head to the Astana team of Alexander Vinokourov.

Maybe Vino can get something out of him because he really has stagnated at Liquigas. Seems to have potential just needs that something extra, maybe he's just been overrated, we'll found out.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

Menchov will decide his future, whether it be Katusha or Astana in the next 7-10 days. Money would be on Katusha after Astana signed Kreuziger. Would want full leadership rather than potential being a co-leader at Astana.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

Kreuziger is improving every year. Look at his results as proof. He's just not improving fast like other young riders but he's improving and he'll be fine.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

Menchov joins Sastre at Geox!

Cunego, Brajkovic and Horner are also rumoured to be in talks, according to cyclingnews.com.

Footon goes from being the most horrible team with the most horrible jersey ever, changes name and suddenly is looking very interesting.

I am guessing both will ride the Tour, one will ride the Giro and one will ride the Vuelta.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

Didn't really see that one coming, i know there was a bit of talk it might happen but thought Katusha would have been a nice fit. Interesting.

Cunego Signs Two-year contract with Lampre-ISD

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/cunego-signs-two-year-contract-with-lampre-isd

Damiano Cunego has ended months of speculation by confirming that he will continue to ride in Lampre colours next season. In the wake of Friday’s announcement that Ukraine company ISD will co-sponsor the squad from 2011, Cunego revealed to La Gazzetta dello Sport that he has signed a two-year contract to ride for the team.

So he's staying put and according to Riis, so is Fabian.

Riis also takes the chance to point out that Cancellara cannot buy himself free of his contract either. In other words, unless Riis somehow makes a complete 180 and decides to release the Flanders/Roubaix double winner, Fabian Cancellara will be racing for Saxo Bank/Sungard in 2011.

Petrov and Masciarelli to Astana

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/petrov-moves-to-astana

Evgeni Petrov will ride for Team Astana for two seasons, the Kazakh team has announced. It also announced that it has signed Tanel Kangert of Estonia and Italian Francesco Masciarelli to one-year contracts

More help for Kreuziger, not bad signings, especially Masciarelli, who's only 24 and has plenty of climbing ability.

Hushovd and Haussler to ride for Garmin in 2011?

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/hushovd-and-haussler-to-ride-with-garmin-transitions-in-2011

Four riders expected to lead exodus from Cervelo TestTeam
Cyclingnews understands that a group of riders may leave the Cervelo TestTeam and join the Garmin-Transitions team in 2011 as part of a radical shake up at the two teams.

There is widespread speculation that Garmin-Transitions may be interested in signing Thor Hushovd, Heinrich Haussler, Andreas Klier and Roger Hammond.

Not a bad sprinting department if that happens. Farrar lead out by Hushovd, Dean, Haussler, Hunter...

Imagine if Theo Bos joined them.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

Well it seems Cervelo are dispanding after comments from the directeur sportif, so those riders will have to make there way somewhere.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

It's confirmed, Cervelo riders heading to Garmin...

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/garmin-confirm-six-more-signings-from-cervelo-for-2011

The Garmin team has announced the arrival of six more riders from the soon to be defunct Cervélo TestTeam, as the line-up of the new Garmin-Cervélo for 2011 fills out.

Roger Hammond, Heinrich Haussler, Andreas Klier, Brett Lancaster, Daniel Lloyd and Gabriel Rasch will all join their Cervélo leader Thor Hushovd at the squad for 2011.

Link

Going to be a quality lead out train that is for sure.

They have also hinted that there will be a new team name change at Garmin. Supposedly for next season they will be known as Garmin-Cervelo.

Re: 2010/11 Cycling Transfer Thread

BMC also confirms 6 new signings

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bmc-announce-six-new-signings-for-2011

BMC has confirmed six new signings for 2011, as the Swiss-based team bolsters its line-up in the hope of securing a ProTour licence. Italians Manuel Quinziato and Ivan Santaromita, Belgians Yannick Eijssen and Greg Van Avermaet, France’s Amaël Moinard and Swiss rider Johann Tschopp have joined the team.

Tschopp’s arrival should Cadel Evans further support in the high mountains, as he has put in some impressive displays in the major tours in recent years. He won stage 20 at this year’s Giro d’Italia which went over the Passo di Gavia, while riding for BBox-Bouygues Telecom. After starting his career with Phonak, Tschopp is pleased to return to riding Swiss-made bikes. “It’s exciting to be with a team with a Swiss sponsor that is so international in nature,” he said.
