2011/12 NBL Season thread

The Kings, for one, have said that they wanted Sunday games at 4:00pm not only for the delayed TV aspect but also because it's easier for families (as opposed to 7:30pm games on a Sunday night). However, the NBL and One wouldn't allow it...
The NBL is run by morons then. Ridiculous decision. I still struggle to understand how One HD can justify putting their 3rd rate movies on at 8:30 PM, rather than the basketball. Surely they don't rate more than the NBL.

No Patrick Mills stat updates tonight?

Had a good game, 20 points 8 assists and a few rebounds. Shot well.

Tigers played really well, Kings played terribly.

If this lockout continues, and the Tigers continue to play like they have the last couple of games, I think its a safe bet to say they will be a championship contender.

Also great to see the 36ers beat Perth in Perth last week.

I still can't get my head around how they screwed up a promising sports channel in One... First they put on more baseball games then NBA and NFL games... Seriously no one watches baseball here. Then they turn it into another crappy channel with 90s tv sit cons and 'HD' movies. It is just terribly mismanaged.

Take note that One has now been de-assigned as a designated sports channel and now it is "Tensports" that take care of the coverage of things such as the NBL and Netball

Also if you want to watch "Cops", One is the Channel for that

Cheap, cheap, cheap

They couldn't even get Jeopardy right - airing 3+ year old episodes (even the eps on W are over 12 months ahead of the ones on One).

And Sunday, they had, of all things, an Airline marathon (I don't mind Airline, but the pre-9/11 eps have dated terribly).

They are just slashing costs wherever they can

Wish the game had more exposure in Australia. Sure, talent wise it doesn't exactly stack up to other countries around the world but its still a great game. Went to the game last night (Tigers vs Crocks) at the cage and I would say there was easily under 2500 people there. Lucky the place generates a fair bit of noise or it would be a ghost town.

Out of curiosity, do other people go to games regularly or is it just me?

Never been to a NBL game, but I did watch the Tigers vs. Crocs game and how the hell did the tigers manage to lose that...

I don't go to Wildcats games anymore because there's just too much noise there (probably showing my age) and i just don't like the way they orchestrate the crowd and i think everyone dressed in red is boring. I don't mind the music but i hate court announcers yelling their heads off and the lighting in the crowd should be dimmed. Can you imagine going to a concert and the crowd is lit up under the same brightness as the performer on stage?

The people running television just don't seem to have any idea these days about spectator comfort. Even when i watched the last Wildcats game at home against Woolongong on TV it was painful listening to the background noise drowning out the commentators. No idea!

I used to go to quite a few 36ers games in the past. First season we went it was about $28 a ticket. The then-owners then realised this was a tad expensive and then introduced a great ticketing system, which saw ticket prices drop. The arena was broken up into 5 zones and tickets priced accordingly (Zone 5 - the nosebleeds in the rear south stand - was about $15 from memory). Then they went Gold (lower levels) and Silver (upper levels) - Gold was $25, Silver $20.

Then when the new owners took over the club they shot the prices right up - and introduced a higher tier of seating pricing which saw some seats go from from $25 to about $85 in one season (though most seats went from $25 to $33)! They also started charging extra for buying tickets at the door, but if you pre-booked, you copped a credit card charge! Needless to say crowds at 36ers matches have flatlined the past couple of years (their on-court efforts don't help either).

It's just getting too expensive to go to more than a couple of games a season these days, especially with the shortened quarters - it's a lot of money for about 70-80 minutes entertainment.

I guess I would have to consider myself lucky then as at Tigers games the court announcer doesn't try to gee up the crowd every time the ball goes down the floor. The hand clappers that they sell there and what you get with memberships generate a heap of sound but isn't really a nuisance either so I guess its alright to me.
Sucks about the ticket pricing brucetiki, I paid $20 a ticket (concession ticket) and I was 2nd row and was very pleased with my seat. They are still a good price here in Melbourne, I have no problem paying that to go watch a game. Specially like the game on friday!
Jakeeboy - From what I could see the Crock's D tightened up heaps and didnt allow Tragardh get the ball so easily as he did in the first half and was always double teamed when he had it, 3pt shooting from the Tigers was terrible as well which didnt help. Add that to heaps of clutch 3's by Gill and a few other blokes. I knew from mid way through the 4th that the Crocks were going to run over the top of them.
Would like to see the Blaze's game from Saturday, anyone watch it??

I recorded it and watched most of it this morning, Wildcats D' was terrible while the Blaze put lots of pressure on Perth.

Adris Deleon looks a player, really quick and easily beat great defender in Robbins.

Mills was literally carving them up Derek Rose style but just couldn't seem to score, and also Targardh couldn't shoot a FT to save his life. And is so frustrating watching both teams jack up three after three after three. Almost 60 3PA during that game... Why the F*** don't they run a proper offensive set? Or does Patty Mills sit on the bench so long in Portland he doesn't know what that is?

Friday night was my first ever game, and I've been looking up membership prices since. I'm actually surprised how cheap it was! I got free tickets on Friday so I wasn't sure how much I'd be spending to come every week.

Unfortunately I'm away for all of December and half of January, so it's not really worthwhile getting a membership, but I'll be getting tickets to every game I'm here for.

I too was shocked at how great the atmosphere was for such a small crowd, was at half capacity and the noise was fantastic.

I thought Mills was pretty average on defense, but he wasn't the only one, thought that both teams were pretty useless on defense.

Mills was terrible on D. Gill absolutely destroyed him as he put up 27 in the last half, with half of them being deep 3's.

Mills was only good at the start of the game when the Crock's D was all over the shop. They almost game him a free invitation into the key to put up a floater or to give it off to Tragardh for an easy put it during the first quarter.
I think Mills throws up way to many 3's. I think he hit one 3 then he done that stupid eyes thing that he does then went quiet.

Was a good game though, looking forward to this week against the Wildcats.

went and watched my Kings on Saturday night, was great. Couldnt believe the lack of exposure the game got and then being there how casual everyone was including the teams. Walking into the stands and talking to people after the game. was awesome

This round is Heritage Round. Check out the jerseys that each team will play in below.

The only jerseys that will be produced are those worn by the players, which are being auctioned off on each teams website.

WTF is with Cairns' heritage singlet - seems to have zero connection to the Taipans.

Also would have like to have seen the 36ers go a little deeper back in their history for their heritage, but I guess 3 of their 4 flags were won with that singlet.

Other than that some good old designs and memories of past NBL sides.
