Not saying that we don't have depth in the backline. Just that you can never have too much. Particuarly when obtaining that depth only costs you a rookie spot.

With L Brown's retirement and Tarrant's impending retirement (which could ultimately be as early as this year if we take out the flag) it's something the Pies should consider.

As you suggest Keefe is the logical replacement for Leighroy. However, given that role in our current structure is actually as a fwd/ruck, he will probably be taken out of the defensive rotations a little bit.

Hartley is a definite prospect. However will be not be ready to hold down a key defensive position for a while.

Not convinced in regards to Gordon. But again early days.

All this is combined with the fact our perceived backline depth is very much dependant on Rambo returning without any ongoing issues. There are no guarantees. Particularly with knees (Hey that rhymes...)

Will be interesting to see what Coll list management think and how confident the club are that N.Brown will get back to his best + stay relatively injury free there after.

You're not wrong on any of your points.

If we go KPD in any of the future drafts or even this year would be looking high level full back rather than another rookie or late draft KPD selection since we already have enough young depth coming through. Because if not confident in N.Brown we need a high level replacement, not just depth.

That is True, With Knee Reco's you can't be 100% sure if he be back to his best

Just look what has Happend to Brad Dick:(

Collingwood is intrested in a very good backman from local level. Im involved with a club and they were asked for his number. Trust me he has great potential! Hopefully looking to draft him and not for vfl or something.

Agree with you Nightmare.

The only issue with trying to get that high level KPD is that there won't be any available at our pick. I think we should be thinking outside the box by scouring lower/country leagues (I'm certain Hine already is). Or alternatively trading fringe players to improve our draft position.

Agree with this. This is why I'd probably wait till 2012 or probably even 2013 till we look at potentially another KPD.

Gives us time to annalyse whether N.Brown is going to get back to his best. And should also give us some idea of how T.Gordon and M.Hartley are going. And some idea of whether Keeffe will develop into a ruck or key defender.

Talia + McInness are those KPDs likely to go earlier. Personally not a fan of trading to move up in the draft.

Will be interesting to see KPPs we have identified as being potential AFL talents because personally not a big fan of this years group. Quality is more in some of the mids, flankers and rucks this year.

knight,

i'd almost be 100% that haynes did not nominate last year. Was playing club football for frankston in the mpnfl. Was not even on the list at stingrays

Exactly. Can't wait to see what rabbits hine pulls out of his hat this year.

Moreover, let's hope that Rambo's knee/s is/are structurally sound which allows him to form a solid key defensive unit with Reid well into the future.

Darren Pfeiffer has been fantastic in the SANFL - deserves a 2nd chance. Talent was always there but now has pulled his head in and started applying himself.

I think you'll find it would be his third chance as he was originally drafted by the crows in the first round of the 2005 draft then delisted at the end of 2007 after not playing a game.

He played a few games for the Blues Though

That's what I mean. Because he was at Carlton as well if he were drafted this year it would be his 3rd crack at the big time.

Well Leigh Brown was on his 3rd Chance when he came to us

Correct.

Intention was for it to be taken as - when he played had talent. Didn't work for it.
Now has turned things around. And another opportunity is not out of the question.

Might be right, not doubting you. If so then just means the draft has another player.

That he was, however there is a huge difference between the two. One is up there as the best clubman to have played the game in the past decade and the other was cut by 2 clubs in the space of 4 seasons.

Yeah I took it as such just wanted to point out that it'll be his 3rd crack though. I'm all for giving the bloke a shot if we think he's changed his attitude, but not with anything other than a rookie pick. That really does leave us down the pecking order because if he's gone well this year he should go early in that draft.

The main reason for a rookie pick is that we'll probably only have 2 live picks this year and I reckon a pick in the 40's may be overpaying. Plus if it came to using a mid to late 40's pick on a state level player I'd rather go with Sundberg who's already partially been in our system.

Jackson Starcevich played for Morningside in teh NEAFL Final. Just finished watching the game where they got smashed by Thunder. Jackson kicked first goal of game and rarely seen after that. Was a good mark and goal but seems to struggle getting around paddock a bit. Probably worth a rookie shot depending on his athletic testing and given a run in the VFL for a year.

Yeah Rookie would be the Best Chance for him. Could we bring him in as a VFL Top-Up Player?

Who are the key position players to look at this year Snoop?

Are there any mature age Key Forwards worth rookie listing?

I guess you would struggle to find someone of J-Pods potential but maybe someone like an Edwards for depth?

Outside of Eddy/B.Brown who i've spoken about in the past one to look out for as a rookie: Ben Gazzola. 21 - 196cm KPF. Strong mark. Big leap. Big strong body. Endurance good. From b-ball background. Only played the one year of SANFL footy this year and previously only played lower level footy. Consider him as a poor mans Chris Dawes.
I stress not a main draft type but a good structural fit who can play now but also has potential to develop because he hasn't played much footy against good opposition.
Also can do that little bit of no.2 ruck because he has the size to stand up in there and the leap to at least compete.

Dean Galea was very impressive in the VFL final. Can play now and have a big impact. Big physical player. Very strong mark. But undersized. Against bigger, taller AFL key defenders I think would struggle.
