Just a quick thing on Jackson Coleman

A tall strapping lad who stands 194cm, as a 19 year old. A big lump of a kid who was rookie listed to Cricket Victoria last year, overlooked for this year and I think this is why he is concentrating on footy (again).

He just seems to be one of those kids... if you know what I mean, pick up anything.. and be good.

Really surprised to see Taylor Adams still on the board. Will have to apologise to Nathan Buckley for passing on his man, but decided to go for a better fit who like Adams also represents serious value at this selection. Would have also considered Luke Brown had he not gone to GWS.

#26 Collingwood - Jordan Lockyer (WA – Def/Fwd)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 15/06/1993
Recruited from: West Perth Football Club
Player comparison: Jack Anthony
Profile: Really aggressive player. Undersized KPP who proved during the U18 Champs that he can play well down either end. Fierce attack on the ball. Can do a job defensively but also can take big grabs. Has the strength to stand up in tackles and even take on tacklers. Skill level is very good for someone of his size and type. Versatile and should settle into a position as a 3rd tall down either end at AFL level.

That is Knight's Pick in the BF Trial Mock Draft

A player who looks to be Slipping at the Moment is Myles Bolger a Highly Rated Tap Ruckman from WA.

IF we keep our 1st Round Pick and IF he falls to us at that Pick I would love to Pick this Kid as he could be Insurance for the Ruck Spot alongside Witts and Ceglar.

With Wood, Witts + Ceglar no room for another ruckman. Just can't find anyone any more ruck minutes.

From a Collingwood perspective there are a couple I would take ahead of him. But make no mistake, potential is there and one of the few ruck prospects worth giving a shot to this year.

Some I'd consider:
1st round:
Michael Talia (KPD - Probably gone by our selection - FB option)
Fraser McInness (KPD - Realistic - FB option)
Sam Gordon (KPF - Realistic)
Jordan Lockyer (KPP/3rd tall - Think Jack Anthony. Slightly undersized but very agressive - Realistic)
Shane Kersten (Undersized leading type FF. Might be more of a 3rd tall at next level. High level talent. Like him)

The one I think Snoop would take if available would be Sam Frost. Super athlete. Absolutely immense speed for a KPP! Huge potential, but at this stage inconsistant. The thing I don't like his kicking and don't think Buckley would be a big fan. Also more of a CHF/CHB. I think he could have success at other clubs but I don't think he is the right fit for us. I'd rather a FB+FF if we go KPP which is why I would go for the other above options.

2nd round:
Aseri Raikiwasa is my man. Undersized type KPD and wouldn't play KPP at AFL level. But big fan. Very physically developed already. Very high level athlete. Great leap. Work ethic is there and was VC for the SA u18 side - so leadership potential is there.

Another who I'd look at is Marley Williams. Reminds me a little of Alex Fasolo. Has a really nice long kick and during the champs kicked a sensational 55m bomb off 1 step. Looked easy for him. Very strongly built and ready to play now. Seems to enjoy chasing. Isn't slow but needs to work on endurance. Potential fwd option who in combination with Fasolo could be big for us on a forward flank.

With the other selections would like a versatile medium size flanker types. Midfield is loaded and these types can come in handy.

Would also be dead keen on our own Brett Eddy as a rookie. Don't care that he is out with an ACL. He is a properly good rookie option who is the same age as Reilly, but is already far ahead of both he and Perham which allows us to delist the both of them.

There is also the option to add Jackson Starcevich who is a KPF from QLD. Can select through F/S. Could use a late pick to get him, but not certain yet that we will go after him.

I'm seem to be going against the grain again this year. Everyone seems to be looking at KPF's or KPB's to boost our list. While I would like to add a few KP players to the list I think our greatest need is speed and line breaking. Besides Jono and Wellers I don't see a lot of depth on our list.

Therefore I am interested in the following from this draft:
Liam Sumner
Club: Sandringham Dragons
Age: 18 Height: 182 cm Weight: 73 kg
"Part of the 14th intake into the AIS/AFL Academy. Represented Vic Metro at the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, averaging 14.8 possessions. He is a very quick and agile midfielder. He uses the ball well, breaks the lines and is ferocious at the contest. He is very good overhead and he has some real penetration with his kicking."
Steven Verrier
Club: South Fremantle
Age: 18 Height: 188 cm Weight: 82 kg
"Represented Western Australia at the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, showing his great dash and skills, including ball usage. He is very quick and his decision making is of a high quality."
Lachlan Dalgleish
Club: North Ballarat Rebels
Age: 18 Height: 185 cm Weight: 77 kg
"A long penetrating left foot kick who plays as a half-forward or wingman. He has a high ability to kick multiple goals. A real dasher who ran third in a heat of the Stawell Gift this year."
Jackson Merrett
Club: Geelong Falcons
Age: 18 Height: 187 cm Weight: 70 kg
"Represented Vic Country at the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships. He has a terrific work rate and his run and carry is game breaking. His ability to find space and work to position is very good."
Jason Williams
Club: Calder Cannons
Age: 17 Height: 188 cm Weight: 78 kg
"He has a strong ability to carry the ball and break the lines. He marks well and has shown he is dangerous when pushing forward. He is very competitive and tackles strongly. He is the cousin of former Hawk and Bomber, Mark Williams."

I've only listed those from the Medium Mids, so far but there are a few others I like also.

Am I alone in looking for speed and line breaking ability?

You're not! With Stewart and Witts joining the club in the next 2 years and the return of Brown we are pretty well set for KP depth IMO. If Liam Sumner fell to our pick in this years draft we'd be doing extremely well :thumbsu:

I'm not in favour of going KPP because outside of Patton there just isn't the talent and just allot of depth quality KPPs who may/may not make it.

In terms of needs I'd be looking at a smaller backman. High skill medium/tall forward. And medium/tall utilities. But we have the luxury to go best available if we like a particular talent.

Line breaking speed is on it's way with Caolan Mooney.

Liam Sumner is a top 10, top 15 selection at worst.

Of those talents you listed Jackson Merrett is a favourite of mine. Really like his game. Hard worker and future leader. Skill level good. Maybe not super fast but works hard and gets into good positions. I took him 2nd round in the bigfooty trial phantom draft for the Pies.

If looking for real line breaker worth looking out for is Bradley Hill (brother of Stephen). If keen could use 2nd rounder to get him - but might rise up the standings. Similar game, not quite the same level talent but is a similar lightly built speedy kid.

I agree Speed would also do very Nice as well if that is Possible.

I just think we need KPP Depth

Longer is the better player now.

Who would go higher on draft day of the pair? Without a doubt Longer.

Just rating Witts based on potential, not allot in it and not at all clear. Witts' recent performances have really impressed me and i've further moved him up my rankings, a couple of months ago had him behind Bolger. So it shows how some big games can change your perception of players.

As for Bolger. I think Witts might be the better talent and since we will be getting him little point adding another young ruckman since in the recent drafts we have added both Ceglar + Witts, both of whom have AFL potential.

It's best with ruckman to get a spread of age groups. Optimal would be to have a 4 year age gap between all ruckman so that you have the one star ruckman, then the ready to go ruckman (Wood - although would be optimal to have better) and then the project ruckman further back - which we essentially have, though we have the two projects now in Witts and Ceglar.

A team who have the structure bang on is Fremantle. Have Sandilands as the no.1, got Griffin who can step in and play as the reserve. Then the high level project in Zac Clarke who looks very promising and could be another very high ruckman some time soon.

KPF

I would think with Dawes, Cloke and the aging Leroy if you could get a decent tall at some point you were keen on to groom as a fwd you would. Perham I think will be gone this year or will play back next year. Keefe is not a fwd and Reilly has shown signs but he is a mile off. Not necessarily with Knighta on the depth of these types.....I think there are a few that given time have the athletic credentials and 'hands' to be strongly considered. Around our first or second pick I would think maybe Manson, McInness, Paine, Gordon, Tomlinson, Sheahen, Dobosz, rander might be around as well as a few of the TAC kids who havent been as prominent and who are well rated by a few in the know. They may also look at Eddy.

KPB

Brown, Reid, Tarrant & Keefe are the core with harltley as a rookie so wouldnt be worried here. Disappointing bc I would like us to get Sam Frost. Suspect maybe a rookie spot allocated here.

Outside / Quick Mids

yeah I think we are ok for pace but I guess a bit depends on your views of whether Sinclair and Rounds will make it. Of course # 1, # 26 are getting on so probably worth replenishing. Reality is by the time our pick comes quite a few of the above may be gone and frankly there isnt a heap of good quick mids left post # 30 in the rough sort of order I have. That being said again there are a few who you would look at who have recently come onto the scene for a couple of the TAC sides that will be of interest - particularly in the finals. More well known types though who could be around our first pick would be guys like (in no order) Ross, Williams, Newness, Charleston, Verrier and Hill

Inside Mids, Rucks and Utilities and Small Fwds

Very well served here. Assuming Dick stays on list though. if not the lad Tungatulum from NT would be my go if he could be convinced to come.

Overall
I think we will only have 2 picks and I would get best available KP player and a mid with pace / outside ability. If we have 3 i would get two outside mid types or just best available.

Yeah I agree in the Open Draft I would think Longer would go before Witts but I think Witts would go before Bolger.

Though I see Witts having the Most Upside.

I have heard Griffen wants to go back to SA:eek:

He won't. Is from WA in the first place and left Adelaide to come back home.

Some are just making up the rumours because he isn't getting regular games now that Zac Clarke is developing well.

Is good depth for now but when Sandilands retires will be important in that combination with Clarke.

Agree KPF is my Number 1 Area I would Draft and you do mention some Nice Kids there. I like Gordon,Manson,Dobosv and Sheahen from that Group

KPF has incresingly become the most difficult position on the ground. Quality is not often found with late picks. It's very rare for project types to deliver. The reality is that if 2 or 3 good KPFs are found in one draft group - it was a great year for KPFs. You've got to take some speculative risks when drafting them, but the reality is that the majority listed in draft discussions won't make it. I'd only use either very early or very late picks on KPFs, as you get the occasional guy who looks a sure thing that always goes very early. The guys who go teens and beyond usually turn out to be wasted picks.

With mooney (quick outside midfielder) and witts (ruckmen) comming into the club I'd look at our first pick to take a small attacking defender (to replace johno/davis) which could be Ellis i think. Our 2nd pick will probably go to whoever is good value but likely a tall utility or in and under midfielder.

In the 2012 superdraft we should use our first pick on KPF.

Gordon,Manson,Dobosv and Sheahen from that Group
To be honest I think they're an ordinary lot and all long shots to make it. Had a quick look at the mock draft and can't believe Newnes made it to the 80's and Jake Hammond missed out all together. Our Bigfooty expects must not be watching much TAC footy these days.

Well it's been very touted to be a Ordinary Draft

If you have a look at our elder statesman, Johnno, Leon & Taz, that could be the type we are looking to replace very soon.

Obviously we have Nate and Keefe to cover Tazs' role.

That Ellis, if he is expected to go around our pick, we fit in nicely.

Here are the Players the Suns De-Listed:

  • Nathan Ablett
  • Marc Lock
  • Micheal Coad
  • Roland Ah Chee
  • Joel Tipett
  • Jake Crawford
  • Jake Stanley

Does anyone know much about these Players and would they be worth to chase?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/122735/default.aspx

Coad I thought might have been worth another year since limited key defence stocks.

Big surprise in there is Lock. Don't know allot about his production this year. Is noted for leadership and as I understand it was a member of the GC leadership group this year?
Maybe not the AFL level talent they might be looking at long term, very hard to see a spot for him in there, but would have thought he was worth another year.

Might be worth a shot for a Port Adelaide who could do with another couple of young leaders.
