Agree with the first two blocks, but think you'll struggle toward the end of the year (rounds 17-24), so only 2-3 wins in that bracket. If you look at the Tigers this year (not from a list quality point of view) you could clearly see a lot of young players dropping off / tiring after round 17. I suspect like us you'll get flogged a few times between rounds 1-8, start winning in the middle of the year, and only win a few towards the end (but remain competitive).

That would give you 5-8 wins which would be a respectable start. Definitely finish ahead of West Coast and the Lions though.

I reckon 6 wins and a real struggle at the back end of the year with so many young bods.

regards,

REB

The GC song to be regarded as one of the better club anthems in the comp, by R21

I really like it and my 4 year old son LOVES it. If you guys go well I may be in some serious trouble.

All the best for the 2011 and beyond. See you at the ground:thumbsu:

Good and fair prediction. Like any theme song it sounds corny first up, but being one of not many people to hear it sung by the team live after wins, and hearing it sung loud as a group of supporters (The fight fight fight could potentially match Yellow and Black one day) I say it will be a successful club song.

Can't see that happening, there's just something about how Yellow and Black gets dropped in between lines that makes it special. Even opposition supporters who hate us regularly acknowledge Tigerland as the best song in the league (or second best behind theirs :) ).

Having said that, I really disliked you song at first, but having listened to it a few times now think it's not bad at all.

Nothing compares to being in the room whilst it is being sung by the team itself.
Hope it happens a few times in 2011 :thumbsu:

I can't wait until they learn the song properly :):)

I agree. Tigerland is easily the best song and Fight Fight Fight will never be as good as Yellow and Black. In fact the Fight Fight Fight and Run Run Run lines just remind me of Ports song, I.e. We'll never Stop Stop Stop til we're Top Top Top. But the song is ok and definitely not the worst going around.

In terms of predictions I think GC will go very close to making finals with about 9 or 10 wins. Might even sneak in. Good luck anyway and we will see you in round 5. :thumbsu:

Thanks :thumbsu:
I can only afford to go to one of the Port/Adel games that we have within that 4 week period. I'm thinking the Power one is the way to go

I don't expect the Suns to finish last.. But for comparisons with the other recent clubs, when they (Port Adelaide, etc) had their debuts, how many players on their first lists already had AFL experience?

Brisbane Bears had 31 VFL experienced players on there side and who played in there first season, where only 10 came from outside of the VFL in 1987.

West Coast Eagles only had 7 VFL experienced players on there list that also played in there first season in 1987. Same with Adelaide in 1991.

Fremantle in 1995 had 18 players who had VFL/AFL experience, though only 17 played.

Port Adelaide in 1997 had 15 AFL contracted players on there list, with only 14 of those playing.

So yeah Gold Coast has less AFL experienced players compared to what Brisbane Bears had in 1987, Freo had in 1995 and what Port had in 1997.

====================

As for the prediction, I reckon we can muster up atleast 6-12 wins next year and finish between 7 and 12, I highly doubt we will finish lower than 12.

After a reasonably detailed 20minute chat with Bluey and Sir Vlad the other night I have officially changed my expectations to finishing no lower than 10th.

They are both very confident of at least 9 wins for the year however Sir Vlad believes there will be no reason why they can't make a debut finals appearance in 2011.

Expect a strong brand of rebound footy apparently that will challenge even the greatest clubs in the competition

Encouraging. I must say that from the few games I have been able to see, I've been very impressed by our willingness to move the ball forward at speed and run in waves - execution is still a work-in-progress but we'll continue to improve with every game. Very exciting footy to watch. Powerful stuff, reminds me of the Lions 2001-2004 and Geelong 2007-2009.:thumbsu:

One of the things Bluey said when the smaller bodies question was put upon him was "Don't worry about the Gorillas from the other teams, won't be able to hurt our team if they can't catch our team"

Definitely said with a bit of tongue in cheek jest, however every joke has an element of truth.
