Well there has been plenty of speculation on other boards but mostly guys saying GC will finish 'dead last' soley on the fact we are a start up club. I'm not sure they actually know where all the other start up clubs have landed in their first year  (hint not dead last) and on top of that we have been given more concessions.

So, where do you guys (GC supporters) think the Suns are going to finish next year? I reckon we will land around 9-13. I'm not sure if I'm being optimistic or pessimistic at this stage as I have concerns about our forward line but our defence looks solid and our mid has class and exciting youth.

Assuming it's a 24 round season next year where each team plays 22 matches, I think this could be a fairly accurate breakdown

Rd's 1-8 1 win
Probably expecting a slow start to the season, no true home games, so alot of travelling for the boys. Will take a while to find their feet in the big league.

Rd's 9-16 2-4 wins
As they start working out what the AFL is all about the boy's will probably knock up a few win's. More then likely going to be a few games at home and I think when they get going Carrara is going to be a tough Ground for any team to win away

Rd's 17-24 4-5 wins
By now they should of totally found their feet. Injuries will have played a big part in our first year. Although they will be taking their toll on the undeveloped bodies we will have enough fitness to fight through most games. We will probably get the trademark late season upset of a few of the higher ranked teams and also with no bye in this portion of rounds we get an extra shot at a win

But also if I may contradict myself, the $7 Sportsbet is offering on Gold Coast to make the finals seem's to be very generous to the punters. I think all it will take is for the boys to get a few upset wins early and confidence will be sky high.

It will take a lot of great things to fall into place if it were to happen, but C'mon are we really worth $7

Final Ladder Position: 12th

Best and Fairest: Gary Ablett Jnr. (Pretty strange if he wasn't)

Leading Goal Kicker: I'll just chuck Dixon here...

Pretty hard to find an argument against this proposition.

I think you guys will surprise a lot of teams next year, especially when you consider the fact that you already have 8 or so AFL-seasoned players and will add heaps of first-round draft picks as well. Not all of these players will be guns from the get go but you should get a couple that will have an immediate impact just like Scully and Trengove did for Melbourne this year. I'm not sure about the other interstate teams but I know that both Port and the Crows finished 9th in their first seasons with the help of fewer concessions, so I seriously wouldn't be surprised if you finish 7th-10th next year.

I don't expect the Suns to finish last.. But for comparisons with the other recent clubs, when they (Port Adelaide, etc) had their debuts, how many players on their first lists already had AFL experience?

If the Suns landed a gun forward (Cloke) could have been a chance for the top 8. Should finish just out of the 8!!

Look forward to seeing the first game boys

Wait wait wait.. No. Which Cloke are you talking about? I suppose it doesn't matter - neither of them are 'gun forwards'. Which made me think about the rest of your KPPs.. Are we thinking Bock CHB, Fraser R, Brennan CHF? Hunt FB? FF??? It just strikes me that Bock may be a good CHB, but Jolly is the worst ruck at AFL level, and Brennan ain't a CHF.. Hunt could be a great FB but not for a year or two..

I think thats the only nock on your list, no forward line really and you dont have a genuine FB. Bock is a CHB is he not?

I think you have more than enough experienced players compared to teams like Melbourne, West Coast, Brisbane, Richmond etc.. and if they all perform and remain injury free you will be able to have a genuine crack at the bottom 8.

Guys like Toy, Matera and Swallow will have an immediate impact.

How do you guys think you'll go against each of the other clubs? That goes for both home and away.

Would have you guys penicled in for 8 wins but... who is playing CHB and FB for this team, looking at this list you guys have you don't seem to have anything above average for these spots.. i guess you'll bring in young guns but if thats the case i think it will be a rocky start with teenagers playing the Key Positions in the backline..

Yep, too many kids and the team that will run out on to the padock in round one will have not played more than a couple of games together. I think five or six wins in the first year would be an outstanding performance.

I will say somewhere between 5-8 wins
Dave Swallow rising star award
Sam Day mark of the year
Harley Bennell goal of the year
And im going to go out on a limb here and say Gary Ablett for the brownlow,if the win ratio is uparound 8,i cant see many pinching votes off him.:D

Pretty sure that Bock will play CHB and Coad will play FB, so not teenagers.

Agree with the first two blocks, but think you'll struggle toward the end of the year (rounds 17-24), so only 2-3 wins in that bracket. If you look at the Tigers this year (not from a list quality point of view) you could clearly see a lot of young players dropping off / tiring after round 17. I suspect like us you'll get flogged a few times between rounds 1-8, start winning in the middle of the year, and only win a few towards the end (but remain competitive).

That would give you 5-8 wins which would be a respectable start. Definitely finish ahead of West Coast and the Lions though.
