Um, yes they do. http://www.afl.com.au/broadcast guide/tabid/9451/default.aspx#locd=VIC Melbourne is the only city that gets every match that Channel 7 broadcast themselves (out of the 5 main states), so whenever in doubt of who is hosting the match and has rights to it just check their schedule. If the Seven Network has the rights to a match, they are allowed to show it on any Seven station around Australia.

Strong Sooz response.

You don't understand. If Seven chooses to screen Freo v Geel in WA, Vic, NT, Tas and ACT, it does not give it the automatic right to screen it in SA.

In any given market, Seven has the right to show 4 matches per round, with the added proviso that in WA, the WCE/Freo away game must be live FTA (whether filmed by 7 or not), in SA, the Adel/PA away game must be live FTA (whether filmed by 7 or not), in Qld, the Bris/GCS away game must be live FTA (whether filmedby 7 or not), and in NSW, the Syd/GWS away game must be live FTA (whether filmedby 7 or not).

Imagine the impact of AFL in HD in pubs and clubs on Friday nights around the country! That is just a pipe dream now. Wasted opportunity to expand our game...

oh yes, I can imagine it now, pissed blokes going "Mr Bartender, please get this free game of football off TV, I can't make our each hair follicle on the players arms. This SD stuff is unwatchable"

Okay, yeah I get it now. Total utter bullshit from the AFL. If they are the host broadcaster, they should be able to show it! Period. Ten had that opportunity last year, so it's BS that Seven can't, considering the amount of money they paid for what is now 0 exclusive games on their own network. It means that SA, WA, NSW and QLD each will be missing out on some quality matches on free to air as Seven can not show matches that they in fact are hosting. Forgetting about the fans as usual AFL. $$$

To be fair, Seven agreed to the deal.

It was an arm's length commercial transaction negotiated between Fox, Seven and the AFL.

I don't mean to be ignorant, but can you explain this? Seven are showing 5 matches in Perth in round three http://www.afl.com.au/broadcast guide/tabid/9451/default.aspx#locd=WA yes both Eagles and Dockers games are live on 7 (both matches hosted by Fox Footy) but why do they get to show the extra match? In this case the Gold Coast v Essendon match (Saturday night match hosted by 7) is being shown in Perth on 7 in a similar situation Adelaide in round 7 (crows v Cats, Sat afternoon hosted by Fox) but we miss our on the Sat night match hosted by 7 and only get 4 matches on 7 compared to Perth's 5? Going to have to call Seven I think.

I'm fairly sure in March/April last year we knew who would televise every single game on the season bar the floating last round. Why is this not the case now? I want to know who has the least and most FTA and Foxtel games.

I believe, and I am happy to be proved wrong, that Seven has the ability to purchase extra matches off the AFL & Fox.

Damn you channel 7... The pies are probably gonna be shown on 7 most of the yr which means almost all the pies games are gonna be upscaled on foxfooty HD. I was so excited to see my pies in HD on my projector! :(

That's the crap thing about the schedule. The better teams will get more games on channel 7, and thus, less games in HD.

Just rang up Seven and they said that Foxtel have the live rights to the Geelong Fremantle game in Adelaide even though Seven are the host broadcaster. Who ever agreed to that from Seven must have been smoking some serious shit. We do get the Freo Geelong game on FTA still though, however it's 5 hours delayed on 7mate. http://au.tv.yahoo.com/tv-guide/81/0/2/23/ :eek::eek:

Jesus there's some shit in this thread.

why would Adelaide get an extra game every week that others don't get? why would foxtel chip in $500m if 7 get to show their 4 games plus the 2 local teams, all live?

also, 7 don't get the best 4 games, i'm fairly certain they get games 1, 2, 5 and 6 (until Conroy gets his fingers in it at least).

typical though, tight arses wanting something for nothing.

tv pays for the game you watch, you all get your local teams on tv, and yet it's never enough...

i fear for humanity if these are the problems that consume peoples days.

even HD is only in an issue in the AFL completely overlooking it, and Fox Footy apparently misleading people. (i was personally always clear that the 7 games were only upscaled HD, but who am i to doubt others who say they were mislead...)

We don't. But Perth does http://www.afl.com.au/broadcast guide/tabid/9451/default.aspx#locd=WA

Facts are 7 in fact do get the top 4 games each week. Also, some of us would prefer to watch a quality match like Fremantle v Geelong, rather than Gold Coast v Adelaide. Would you agree? And upscaled SD is NOT and I repeat is NOT HD as Fox Footy have advertised it is.

Perth may get the 5th game on 7 in some rounds as a trade-off for having to delay games (Friday night) or show games in non-ideal timeslots (11am) due to the timezone differences

How do you know what games are on free to air after Rd 10? The AFL website only shows up until Ch10 however I am sure there was something at the start of the year that showed how many of your teams games were on free to air?
