I am as sure as I possibly can be that that is the reason for his stint in defense.
Agree with this and also I think there was an element of foxing involved - I always felt Menzel and Duncan would spend more time forward at the business end - both great marks and finishers. I don't think they wanted to play their cards too early with Dan and as we saw from Round 24 they timed it pretty well.

After a hip operation, don't know if I'd be keen to throw Vardy straight into the ruck, thought West was clearly our No2.
Think Vardy's a keyposition player first who can chopout in the ruck.

Simpson is the Otto replacement, time show he's got the goods!

Agree with this 100%.

Daws has had multiple seasons to build for this moment and the time is nigh. I am not confident we will get a lot out of Vardy next year. I have a tremendous opinion of him but he will need to be carefully managed.

I think Simpson can do it...time to show that he can.

Me either.

Which probable means if West or Daws have a problem,it's welcome back to the Ruck Tom Hawkins.:(

Can use first pick on a ruck in the national draft

No ruck we draft as an 18 yr old is likely to be physically ready to play the position at AFL level in 2012.

And often, even ruckmen who are first round picks aren't sure things. Nearly all the quality ruckmen in the league at the moment came from the third round of the draft or later and several via a rookie list. Recent history suggests you're far better served taking an unfancied project player and letting him develop until he's 22-24. Which, perhaps not coincidentally is around Simpson and West's age now

I agree. I do think we need another ruck but we don't need to use an early pick on it, most of the rucks in this pool will be around post pick 50 anyway.

My point was that any ruck we draft isn't relevant to the OP of this thread, our key position players for 2012 will come entirely from within unless we draft a mature age player.
