Because Lynch fills the void for about 2 years. In 2 years, our forwards will have 4 years in the system and should be good to come into their own. They shouldn't need protection at that point. We can then shift to having Day and Lynch emerging from Q's shadow.

Where-as Tippett is younger, we'd have to fit him in for longer. I think the way to go is to get someone to act as a stop-gap for our forwards to develop. Someone for 2 years or so.

Not replace one of our young key forwards, which is what we would probably be doing with Tippett.

Does anyone know when the official cuts are announced
Was it done on the day of the B+F last year??
Last year no one wanted the players we cut. This year, they will. Therefore we will wait & try to trade them, rather than cutting them loose & letting other clubs recruit them for free.

That's a really good point.

I would just hate for us to end up like a Richmond. Personally I think it's just far too optimistic to assume that our forwards are going to turn into world beaters. It doesn't just happen like that. I'm not syaying they won't, they may well be the best forwards to ever play the game. But they just as likely might always suck. Or they get career ending injuries. Who's to say they won't want to leave the suns when their contract is up? I feel like its all good to plan for them to come on, but you can't just bank on it happening.

I think that if we can't get Cloke, we MUST get Tippett. He's a proven number one forward. He wouldn't have to be fitted in. He'd demand the number one defender. And IF our kids come on, the brilliant! They overtake him and we have the best forward line ever.

As far as I'm concerned, the 2 major things to do over the next 4-6 weeks.

Priority 1 - Re-sign Caddy

Priority 2 - Get Tippett

You could easily swap those 2 priorities around, as we can get compensation for Caddy and holds pretty good value in my opinion. Tippett is far more important for the clubs onfield and off field success going forward. I have no doubt on that.

Agree with you to a point , only problem with it is if Day and Lynch turn out to be duds , then Q retires and you are left with a below par forward line , with Tippett he will possibly be in our premiership team and has already proven to be a very good player.

Tippett 1.9 goals a game and 1.7 behinds as and average, lynch and Day together average 1.4 and 1.3 and are teenagers

help me understand why Tippett is such a high priority?
He takes the number one defender in a side that no-one takes lightly. So he effectively increases everyone else's output as well.

Besides, stats can be misleading. Often goals per game is not a good way to evaluate key forwards. For example, jack Riewoldt kicked more goals than Tom Hawkins and Buddy Franklin and everyone else for that matter. It doesn't mean he's the best forward in the league though. I mean, if you look at that stat alone it makes Chris Mayne look like a top ten forward. Hell, Jack Anthony kicked 50 goals in a year once.

I know your hung up on his stats this year and concussions coupled with his supposed "value"

Truth be told, he's only just coming to his peak now and probably that 25-29yr old for key forwards are at their peak. I can't see us getting Cloke, the only other decent key forward left that might be available is Tippett.

Alternatively we could always give Fevola a lifeline :)

We need a mature key forward, ideally around 24+ this will benefit our developing key forwards. Think of it as not an expensive wage for 1 player, and scrutinising that 1 person's output. Think of it as an investment into the development of our other key forwards in allowing them to get better by playing on lesser defenders. :D

Not to mention he is forward/ruck combination. Looking forward, what happens if the AFL bring in the 2 sub rule and 2 on the bench (2:2). This kind of player would be worth even more than the alledged 750k-800k.

Mind you I think Dixon will play this role next year if Tippett doesn't come in. The downside is we are going to end up losing these key position players that we have an abundance of at some point.

Jordan Russell quits the Blues , was taklked about as a possible AA selection only 2 seasons ago before injury struck , would we have a look ??

Not sure to be honest. Also, do we need more of the dashing defender types? We already have a few in Harbrow, Warnock, Weller and Shaw.

I think our back 6 isn't actually looking too bad and was really starting to gel. And with plenty of depth and some senior bodies there already, not sure it needs much more addition. I've even started to go cold on Silvagni.

I know Troy Chaplin is linked with Richmond, but what do you think of him for a CHB/FB? Would allow Bock to be our 3rd man up/experienced rebounder (ala Scarlett) and allow him to continue into his 30s without crashing his body round on the hulk forwards.

As a medium forward, it looks as though Aaron Edwards could be available. He was playing very well earlier in the year, but has been kept out by the dominance of the 200cm blokes in Petrie, Hansen and Tarrant. He's a more than capable goalkicker who's good on the lead, would you think that he would fit into your forwardline well? Or wouldn't you want a medium forward who gets the ball kickied to him too much (hence potentially slowing the devlelopment of Day, Lynch etc.)?

Not sure about the medium forward to be honest.

Currently our only medium forwards are Russell, Brown and maybe A.Hall? Stanley when he was up there, but he appears to be more of a midfield and/or defender at the moment.

Depends on where we plan to utilize O'Meara too, though I guess he'd be more of a small forward.

Also depends on who we plan on drafting. I've got my eye on a couple that could be medium forwards.

Would probably pass.

Lynch is a gun and I really rate. Should be a star and better than Day IMO. Day has not shown enough for us :(

I'm not sure what people are expecting of Day. He's playing with the best defender on him, a great deal of them AA-worthy and is still increasing his numbers steadily. His game against Port really showed us a glimpse into the future, along with what good delivery into him can create.

I'm pretty confident that he'll turn out fine. He didn't exactly have the best pre-season and still improved considerably in 2012 over 2011. I'm looking forward to see how he turns out with full pre-seasons and more experience.

Yeah, I just see Lynch as a better prospect. Day was taken a little high, but didn't West Coast want him so he was forced to be taken at 3 if we wanted him?

'Delivery' is the key imo. Pretty tough to expect Day and Lynch to kick bags of goals when they were denied reasonable delivery into the forward line for most of the season. Even a Tippett or a Cloke would have struggled for marks/goals with the bombs we had coming in.

The last 6 games or so, our kicking into the forward line started to improve and our forwards could actually take a few grabs.

Our disposal into the forward line should improve next season and so we should expect a bit more out of Day and Lynch, who have been tracking pretty well imo.
