2012 list management.

We desperatly need a medium sized proven forward, someone in the mould of stevie j, Lecras, Milne, Monfries. Not saying those mentioned but someone like that! It's the one area of our list that is lacking and the ineffective nature of our forward line highlights this. If we dont make that type of player a priority this offseason we have failed!!!

Rischa tried on one leg, and we still have Brennan who I think might be a perma forward next year

Medium forwards we have a few, I thought.

Aaron Hall seems more a small forward, but Lukey Russell is probably going to turn into a medium forward for us. Danny Stanley was a great medium forward for us in 2011, but he's needed in several other places at once unfortunately. :P

Just want inside mids from this exchange period. Especially with Cads gone.

Yeah don't agree on the medium forward thing, im with sunny. Another inside mid will allow us to rotate the likes of Ablett, bennell, rischa, swallow, etc through the forward line playing as theat medium forward. Guess its just my opinion though.

I think we might be short an experienced strong running half back flanker. We lost Krakeour who in the grand plans was supposed to be that experienced body on the half back line with Harbrow and Bock.

Weller moved into that role but was hit and miss and may be on the move. McKenzie has the run but I think it effects his natural style of play when given a defensive position. Wilko/Hine/Taylor haven't shown the goods yet, Tape is a 3rd tall shutdown but not a runner. Hutchins/May big bodies but not run and carry defenders. Iles was tried for a bit but may not be with us next season. Toy would have been great in this role but that didn't pan out.

Horsely could play the role but may be better utilised in the midfield.

Interesting point.

How do you rate Aaron Hall in this role.
I don't think Aaron Hall fits the bill. Although he's servicable at times, he's just not consistant enough. Mind you has not had heaps of opportunities either? A proven 40 odd goal per year medium forward is what he need, Stevie J, come to the coast and re-unite with Gablett

I suppose money will be the key issue. If we do not get Tippett we have more to spend on one or two quality players. You would have to offer a handy sum to entice a good player to GC and offer them more than a one year contract. If we get Tippett think the money will be limited so it could be a bit of a waiting game over the next couple of weeks.

Well that's the entire salary cap gone :D

That would be close to the entire AFL's salary cap gone . . . Although I believe there are concessions on players who come across from other sports. Lebron could possibly chuck a few more bums on seats

With us giving up pick 2 for Martin (which I support), leaves us with pick 25 and a couple of laties.

Perhaps we will draft a sleeper type inside mid prospect @ 25 and use the other 2 to promote a rookie like Horsely (which is being done?), and pre list a qlder like Boston?

Any word when the delistings will be announced?

Still got the Caddy pick as well, that should land us a decent inside mid prospect:thumbsu: . Unless we trade for the Cats compo.

Bit of pick upgrading will probably go on with the Hickey pick and the Toy pick and what ever else we get.

Scratch that ^ Forgot about the Hickey pick and probaly 1 or 2 further to come like a Mav Weller type.

Seems we may have to clear more off our list than originally planned to accomodate these draft picks.

Who is in the firing line from senior list?

Moss
Magin
Iles
Fraser (retired)
Krakouer (retired)

Who else?

Perhaps we should on trade? Eg 2 2nd round picks for 1 first rounder? Could suit both parties...

Well said CQSun. I hope we dont accumulate draft picks but instead 'trade up', so we only have a couple of picks but they are all in the 1st/2nd rnd.

Sam Lonergan might very well be completely unwanted, free to a good home. I assume Essendon are feeling out trades. Could do a lot worse. Can't run much, and his skills by foot aren't great, but he is sensational at getting to the bottom of packs, he tackles as hard as anyone, and he does kick the odd goal as well.

You didn't exactly sell him that well. ;):D

Unfortunately I think that he would be excess to our needs. His spot will likely be taken up with a Horsley or Rischitelli, who I think I prefer more. We do need some inside mids, but I honestly think we'd look to the draft to fix that hole.

He is a bit of a defensive machine though. Wouldn't count him out so quickly.

Well, it's how I honestly see him.

I had forgotten about Rischitelli. I'd take Sammie over Horsley, at least inside. Eventually Swallow et al will have the size to take over more of that sort of role, but still see it as a weak point for you guys in the short term.

Iles is in talks with Melbourne to sign as a free agent. Eligible as hes delisted.

Expect an announcement this Friday!

LOL exile. Good laughs had at that meme.

RE: Iles, not too surprising. No-one must have been keen for a trade I guess, so delisted if true.

I'm not sure he would have been in our 22 next year if we were all fit. Have similar players along the wings like Sexton or Allen we'd probably opt to give games to.

Iles was always a good journeyman, extremely well rounded. With that said, he had no real weapons, which is part of the reason I expect we let faded him out. Our midfield is easily our greatest strength with the biggest depth of anywhere.

And unlike Stanley, he didn't really show the ability to plug the empty holes in other parts of the ground. At least as well as Bull, and look how much he had to do to get that extension?

Wish him all the luck though. Just a sad case of our young gun mids entering their third years, and us starting to downsize our list. :(

Four delisted.

Flanagan, Iles, Magin & Moss gone.

So those 4 + Fraser + Krakour + Caddy traded

Still potentially Hickey + Jolly + potentially Hine to be traded also?

Could be 10 gone. Which was about the mark I think?
