I think it was at 46 (inc. Krakouer) before the season so:

Incoming: Jack Martin (mini-draft), Tom Murphy (Free Agency, Hawthorn), Clay Cameron (Queensland Zone Selection)

Outgoing: Josh Fraser (retired), Michael Coad (delisted), Andrew McQualter (delisted), Nathan Krakouer (delisted), Josh Caddy (Traded, Geelong), Lewis Moss (delisted), Sam Iles (delisted), Alik Magin (delisted), Piers Flanagan (delisted), Tom Hickey (Traded, St.Kilda)

46 + Incoming - Outgoing = 39

Does anyone remember the hate that was bestowed on Seb Tape early in his career? Look what happened over time, he found his feet and became a worthy defender by AFL standard.

wow...20 games in 2 seasons and he's an AFL defender.I wish.
so....we'll agree to disagree on that one
No hate for Wilkinson..just doesn't seem up to it
That's 45 years of football talking, but I'll bow down to your knowledge of his backhand lob

Yep that is pretty much the gist of it:thumbsu:
Although Michael Coad and Andrew McQualter are off the rookie list so they don't count towards the reduction of our main list.
Im fairly sure it currently sits at 41 because of this, but Jolly has indicated that he will not play for the suns next season (although a trade has still not been done) so in turn it theoretically sits at 40. Toy has indicated now that he wants to move to vic and thus it is back to 39 (but again not yet made official, will happen).

This will allow us to upgrade Horsely + 2 draft picks (and Cameron) and sit at the required 42.

There is also the case of Hine who has mentioned a possible trade, and with the talks of Broughton it would seem that Hine would be the man to go. Though this scenario is all up in the air at the moment.

Oh and when calculating list numbers its not really Martin that is incoming, rather O'meara but thats just me being overly pedantic:)

Brought on all but done, interesting, another WA boy to the list! He may take toys spot as they are similar back flank types.

Broughton can rotate in the midfield also and isn't overly old.

Decent signing. Is he a freee agent or is this a trade?

Not sure if this has been raised previously, but is our obvious affection for West Australian players part of an larger (intentional) strategy? Are we putting together a scenario in which it is going to be less likely we lose any of these stars? Obviously these boys are our future, but they all share a common history and a common bond. Have our recruiters successfully created a home away from home for our WA players?

Or is it just a coincidence, the best available players have all fallen our way from left of the map?

It was a trade. Broughton and pick 60 for pick 37.

You guys got a bargain and I am sad to see him go. Best of luck to him though.

I wouldn't put it past them. Keeping in mind that Bluey himself is from WA too. We're also heavily into the talent from Tasmania. Mav, Russell, Schade, Iles for example. There's no go-home factor for them really.

Taking nothing away from the amazing talent that WA has put up recently.

Also plenty of kids (Fortunato Caruso anyone?) from the stronger states who just don't make the step up. It's like being the cool kid in school, and working at Coles all your life. Still cool? No, you work at Coles. No-one cares what you did in school (or U18s).

Played with and coached Forte. Most gifted footballer I have ever seen for his age. His size really let him down. Not to sure on exact number, but if he come in to the AFL he would be very close to the AFL's smallest player?

With Toy not finding a home in the trade period, should be delisted now to get him to a Melbourne club in the draft. Going to be a decision in the next few days you'd think, as we go to Arizona on Sunday.

Jolly delisted now as well you'd think.

Delist him. He's not worth much on the market anyway, he wants to return home, and he's not in our best 22. Will also assist with our list constraints and keep someone else rather than Toy.

The go home factor seems to be getting bigger each year. I don't remember it ever being so important a few years ago, but now I imagine it would be a big part of the player interviews, particularly recruiting people to or from a remote area, like GC, Brisbane, Perth, or even Sydney. When you can lose players like Tippett, who you have developed for years, for virtually nothing just because he wants to be "closer to family", it has to be a concern for list managers.

I think it's got something to do with a bigger conspiracy. With the population boom in WA and the redevelopment of subiaco oval, I think the Suns will be relocating to WA in the near future...

Taylor Hine gonna stay with you guys? We've been linked with him. Not a delistee possibility is he?

Haven't seen anything reported about him since the Bulletin's article saying he wanted back to Victoria with you guys showing interest. He is surely far too valuable too delist, but if he hasn't re-signed, there's nothing to stop him from nominating for the draft. No idea mate until we see some more pics from the Arizona trip and look for his face or the club tells us beforehand. He would be a great get mate if he slides to a suitable pick.

Well bowled, Mr Googly.

What pick would Hine be taken at if he entered the draft this year do you reckon?

(that question is open to all, not just spin bowlers BTW)

It depends on the club's current list and needs, he is a ready-to-go 3rd year player able to slot straight into a back-pocket/flank, with possible midfield rotations later in the season as his tank continues to build. Personally, I think the Roos 3rd pick at #42 would be a good safe get, but some Vic clubs may consider him more valuable? Seems like there will be quite a few better-than-normal fringe best 22 players in this seasons ND/PSD.

So how many more do we need to delist now? 46 to 42 yeh? It hurts my brain trying to work it out... Jolly is now officially delisted as per the AFL website, but Toy yet to be named.
1. Josh Caddy
2. Piers Flanagan
3. Josh Fraser
4. Nathan Krakouer
5. Tom Hickey
6. Sam Iles
7. Alik Magin
8. Lewis Moss
9. Hayden Jolly
* brings list down to 37
Rookie: Michael Coad (ret.)
Rookie: Andrew McQualter

Incoming:

1. Murphy
2. Broughton
3. Cameron
4. O'Meara
5. Horsely
6. pick #13

* takes back up to 43...

So we have to delist Toy to bring us down to the correct 42.

What's the deal with the rookies.. Who is still on the rookie list ATM?

Josh Hall will be our only rookie after Horsley is upgraded. We will surely pick up another 2-3 guys in the PSD, so many decent 24-25yo fringe best 22 players being delisted at the moment that could offer us invaluable depth.

Nothing to do with going home! Tippett is a classic case of the "****wit" factor, the guy has just flat-out jerked everyone around with his "dealings".
Don't recruit selfish jerks. Better a good bloke from the other side of the country.
Not *that* many guys genuinely leave to go home, most of the time it comes down to opportunity, or the good old filthy lucre.
