This is seriously hard to get a decent team with minimising donuts :(

Seriously stumped!! Hopefully before season starts things improve. Only locks are Goddard and Martin

Spent 5 hours and now back to square 1

Problem is, even with perfect selection and trading around byes, you are guaranteed 2 donuts if you dont have ruck DPPs and the options there are slim :(

The guys that are making their teams and stuff - is it because you signed up to gold this year? Is it possible to sign up now for next year, so I can begin planning? Cheers

I have exactly the same question please answer with good news!!!

Also I'm not sold on Martin, At 536k seems a bit too pricey for mine, am willing to be swayed in the opposite direction but IMO he seems a bit too pricey

I don't think it's too bad, especially given the sizeable increase in the magic number/prices for 2012.

Keep in mind that he's been training the house down at Punt Rd, and is just a genuine freak of a player.

DPP capabilities also helps. Although I can't say I'm finding too many openings for Mid/Fwds in my midfield (maybe Winderlich).

Hodges price (looking very good atm)?
Also what price have they started Mundy at?

Is the salary cap the same as last year despite having to pick three less players?

Thx in advance.

It's the same, but the prices of the players have gone up, or bak to how it was pre-2010. The players were extra cheap this year (2011).

Bear in mind prices of the elite players will need higher averages than last year to maintain at the start of the year, as the large number of rookies in the GWS team drag down their prices.

Is the salary cap gonna be higher cause some of the prices of some players has sky rocketed.

Prices would have seemed to rise because there's only
30 players to a team compared to 33, the same reason they were lower last year, still just as 'difficult' to pick your team.

This is a very early draft team plan with $21,700 left in the salary cap:

MID: G. Ablett jnr, D. Swan, J. Watson, M. Barlow, K. Stevens, D. Pfeiffer (D. Shiel, J. McDonald)

RUC: S. Mumford, M. Leuenberger (J. Giles, O. Stephenson)

FWD: N. Fyfe, D. Beams, D. Martin, D. Zaharakis, N. Haynes, A. Saad, B. Dick (B. Smedts, S. Rowe)

I think you need more FWD/MIDS in you Forward line :p;)

VICKERY / HAWKINS / MITCHELL CLARK

I have done a preliminary team and have a space left in my forward line and am contemplating one of the above. I am having real difficulty picking one out. My thinking is below.

VICKERY: Closing in on 50 games and looks like he could be a very handy player. Is very mobile, taking marks around the ground and is likely to gain extra points helping out in the ruck occasionally. Indications are he will spend more time forward this year influenced by the arrival of Maric. Will he have a break season out this year?

HAWKINS: His 2011 finals series has aroused my interest. No longer having to worry about Mooney....and Pods probably playing his last season may see the big fella dominate/be the focal point in the Cats forward line. Also has the ability to pick up a few points pinch hitting in the ruck. Has a brilliant midfield looking after him as well. Can he continue his finals form though?

CLARK: Will the the change of scenery see the emergence of the 2009 version where he averaged in the mid 90's scoring some big hundreds and playing all 22 games. Melbourne have a few more scoring options (than Brisbane) which should see the pressure on Clark eased a little. With injuries to Jono Brown he had to shoulder the forward load at Brisbane. Can also pinch a few extra points rucking.

Its the off season but obviously some big issues still arise from time to time.;)

a few interesting picks there but i think some of them could be pretty good picks. 1st of all i would probabley rule out vickery he is still pretty young and he will improve but not enough to become a premium. Hawkins is a odd one because he averaged 70 last season but played much better in finals. But to become a premmium he will have to improve his goal kicking even though he got 3 goals 2 were soccers of the ground. And after a few years of not fulfilling potential maybe a move to melbourne could see a improvement but sometimes players play a bit worse then usual in there 1st few games at a new club.

to be honest i would probably look elsewere but if i had to pick one it would be hawkins then clark then vickery

Vickery seems like he's always going to suffer in the forward line behind Riewoldt and in the ruck behind Maric now. I don't think Richmond will score enough to support two high scoring forward options.

Clark's best scoring season was in the ruck with Brisbane. A change of scenery won't help much with him being recruited as a full forward option. Unless Melbourne plays him as a roaming CHF in the preseason I won't be looking his way.

Hawkins seems like the best scoring option, but inserting a player that was in and out of the team the previous year always leaves me a bit concerned.

Out of those three I would pick up Hawkins, but to be honest I'd rather restructure my team not to have any of them.

This.

Of all three, Hawkins has the biggest room for improvement, but is a high risk option. Clark could have a good year, but could just as easily have an average one. Vickery isn't worth it at all for the reasons dlanod mentioned.

Simply, none of these options are ideal. If you had to choose one, I would say Hawkins. Clark would be a lot safer, but if Hawkins steps up it could be a master stroke. If you're willing to have a gamble, go for it.
