2013 Good Call Bad Call

Fricken Awssome call, just to piss the filth supporters off even more. Imagine their faces if we got him. Pur gold.
It'd cost us a small fortune just to disinfect him... would take years to get the filth out of him... look at how long it took to get Scotland completely clean.

Hey D-man, long time no speak, How's life in the UK treating you?
Good now :) got my commuting from the UK to Ireland sorted out and redistributed my hours so I am not killing myself and I get a normal weekend so life is all good :)

The errrr in the previous post was because you got me mixed up with the Harkster :D

Carlton should make a Free Agency play for Dale Thomas given his relationship with Malthouse and Collingwood's tightened salary cap.

GC/BC

GC, we should make the effort to ask, if for no other reason than to raise the ire of the filth. Doubt we would get Thomas though.

I am tipping Malthouse will find his own favourites amongst the current crop of Blues. GC/BC?

Good call and I have a feeling that it just maybe Gibbs. GC/BC?

GC but I think that you are also missing out Lucas as a potential favourite...

I reckon that Mick will see both Gibbs and Lucas as Goddard style utilities who could potentially rip games apart with their vision and skills. GC/BC

Malthouse will drop Gibbs if he underperforms during season 2013 GC/BC?

(Though naturally we hope it doesnt happen)

GC. There is no reason why Gibbs should be treated different from all other players on the list. If you don't perform, you run the risk of being dropped to the reserves to find some touch. Ratts may have been a little too cautious to do that, but I can't see Mick going down that same path.

Mitch Robinson to kick 20+ goals in 2013 as a half forward. GC/BC?

^Gah, got in first!

Good Call!

If only in hope, we need a coach that will make a tough call.

Bad Call...

Will become an integral part of our midfield instead and with goal-kicking mids like Murphy and Yarran ( :cool: ) he'll be confined to demolishing opposition players.

Yarran to spend 40~50% of game time in the midfield/wings this year - GC/BC

According to Champion Data, Carlton's list is rated overall as follows:

Defenders = 14th
Midfield + Ruck = 3rd
Forwards = 2nd

These were posted in the Herald Sun ages ago, so I'm assuming this isn't news to anyone. Clearly our defense is our weakest link, which again is no surprise.

What's interesting though is to compare with Collingwood:

Defenders = 5th
Midfield + Ruck = 1st
Forwards = 14th

What's interesting in regards to Collingwood is that out of their defensive unit, only Shaw and Ben Reid are elite while only O'Brien is above average.

From Carlton, only Scotland is considered elite. However, Henderson, Laidler and Yarran are still considered above average.

That's partly because the latter 3 all missed significant parts of the season. However, I think this shows that Carlton's "lack of quality" in defense is not true.

Aside from the 4 I've listed I believe both Jamison and Touhy will improve significantly in 2013.

More relevant is the lack of a distinctive game style during 2012. As with Adelaide under Sanderson, Carlton under Malthouse will be organised and predictable. Given our midfield and forward line are in the top4, our defense will improve drastically. A stronger emphasis on two way running with more personnel rotating through the midfield will also improve our capacity to defend.

It is interesting because I would rate our Defence as having more potential than our forward line. We have two genuine quality KPD in Jamison and Henderson, quality third tall options in Laidler and Watson, who I could see playing 3rd tall until he develops into a KPD and some quality rebounding out with Yarran, Scotland and Gibbs (Who I hope will be moving into the midfield). Our main weakness is a small defender, I just don't think Armfield is near the quality of the others and AJ isn't close IMO. Temay may be a future option, but he will take time.

A back 6 of

Watson ......... Jamison ........ Armfield
Yarran ......... Henderson ........ Laidler

Pretty damn promising IMO

Laider will in unaffected by his knee cap injury dypm last year and it won't affect him in the future. Good call/ bad call?
