Didn't he win the Magarey medal??

For mine its about what he can add as a leader and on field type coach in the VFL team. He can also step in if needed at AFL level a couple times for the season.

Nothing wrong with adding a guy to the list who provides leadership, coaching and a person who fits in well with the group especially if its a minimum pick like a rookie. It is kind of like Brad Miller who was recruited as much for his coaching and leadership as he was for Pia.
Excellent post! Last line pure gold.

Ok, last year I did my ratings of about the top 60. This year I've done 75 but including guys that are rookie prospects this time around because I think rookie draft is next week. It's based on what Richmond would do based on their 3 pillars (kicking, competitiveness, character) Kicking gets the highest weighting as outside types can still make it at AFL level, where as guys that just can't kick likely won't. Character is a bit harder to judge as am relying on 2nd hand info to have any knowledge here, having not interviewed anyone. Once it hits late 40's I'd be concerned with using a main list pick on guys after that. Though at 68 some are worth the risk IMO.

1. Tom Boyd - 200cm/103kg - KPF - Eastern Ranges
Clearly the stand out in the draft and for that reason we won't get a crack at him. Big, strong, elite kick for goal and has genuine footy smarts

2. Jack Billings - 184cm/78kg - Fwd/Mid - Oakleigh Chargers
Probably the biggest riser in my rankings and appears St.Kilda bound. I may regret having him this high if he doesn't become a midfielder at AFL level but he is the most talented of the rest.

3. Christian Salem - 183cm/81kg - Mid - Sandringham Dragons
The first of the kids that we MIGHT be able to get. It's probably less than 5% chance though unfortunately with Collingwood and Melbourne circling. This kid should become a star of the league in the future and has everything you could want. Can play inside and outside in the midfield, can push forward and score or rotate off half back and kick his way out of defence. He has a strong defensive game, which isn't exactly common in high draft picks, is an elite kick of the footy and a genuine clutch player.

4. Dominic Sheed - 184cm/83kg - Mid - Subiaco
Sheed has been one of my favourites all year and has been absolutely dominant. Looking like I'm going to have to hate him as I think he may be Carlton bound. Another of the mids who can play both inside and outside, which I really like and is a very nice kick of the footy on his preferred left boot. Probably the best clearance midfielder this year with his ability to read the taps far and away ahead of anyone else and he also hates to be beaten in a one on one contest. Also has a strong game when pushing forward. His knocks are on his athleticism but I don't find them to be an issue. This kid is all class.

5. Josh Kelly - 183cm/75kg - Mid - Sandringham Dragons
The second Sandringham player in the top 5. Kelly is a fitness freak, having won back to back 3km time trials. He is a very nice user of the footy and whilst he will be predominantly outside at AFL level, his inside game should be good enough to stand up to the level. Will be gone by pick 2 so we should stop dreaming.

6. Matthew Scharenberg - 190cm/87kg - Utility - Glenelg
Foot injuries aside, this kid is very good. He has been one of the biggest movers in my rankings this season as I've started to watch his game closer and closer. He is a star. His biggest assets are his ability to read the play as a backman, coupled with his intercept marking. He is an excellent rebounding defender. The latest he falls is Melbourne pick 9 but should be gone before then IMO.

7. Luke McDonald - 188cm/85kg - Defender - Werribee Tigers
North F/S pick with a booming kick. He shifted up the order with his VFL finals campaign for mine, but re-watching some other guys games he's sort of slid back through no fault of his own.

8. Ben Lennon - 188cm/77kg - Fwd/Mid - Northern Knights
Lennon would add a real point of difference to the Richmond side by strengthening our forward line whilst eventually playing through the middle. It seemed all but set that he'd land at Tigerland until the last few days it has been rumoured WC will take him the pick before. Elite kick of the footy on the proviso there's no big sticks in front of him and a super contested mark, which makes up for any lack of pace issues he may have. Just on his athleticism, whilst he tested poorly at Combine, he doesn't appear to play with a lack of athleticism so I don't really see the issue there.

9. Zak Jones - 181cm/76kg - Mid - Dandenong Stingrays
It was really a coin flip between he and Aish and whilst Aish is currently the better player, Jones' competitiveness and crazy attack on the ball and man gave him the edge. Looking like the back-up plan for when the bigger names are gone, Jones is an excellent inside midfield prospect. Attacks the ball like a man possessed and has a real drive to succeed in the big time and prove people wrong. Has worked extremely hard to improve his kicking and it is now at a solid level and with the improvement he's shown this year, there is no reason why it won't get better in a full-time environment.

10. James Aish - 184cm/75kg - Mid - Norwood
His lack of inside game is really the only reason he's here and that could be very well due to his shoulder injury he had earlier in the year so this has the potential to bite me on the arse but I'd select Jones over Aish if available, which he won't be so I won't have to worry. Think of it this way though: Who would you prefer? Nathan Jones or Andrew Gaff?

11. Eli Templeton - 182cm/75kg - Mid - Burnie Dockers
Everyone will know by now how highly I rate Eli and I read a rumour the other day that he is linked to Essendon at 26 and I nearly threw up. Everyone should feel sorry for me if my 2 personal favourites Sheed and Templeton end up at Carlton and Essendon respectively. However, the rumour did say he's a chance to be there at pick 55 for them which means we could snap him up at pick 50. All fingers are crossed that I haven't Rory Atkins'd this poor kid. Elite endurance, really nice skills and elite decision making are Eli's biggest assets. Whilst he is skinny now, once he fills out he should be a gun in the clearance department.

12. Kade Kolodjashnij - 190cm/81kg - Utility - Launceston
Another one that could burn me here at 12. He is a certainty to go top 5 on Thursday unless something remarkable happens, but he is pretty outside and I find it hard to rate some of the division 2 blokes. He has come on massively this year and shapes as a nice prospect for GC.

13. Nathan Freeman - 182cm/85kg - Mid - Sandringham Dragons
The third of the Sandy boys to come up in my rankings. Can't wait for BT's "Sandringham Footy Factory." I really don't know where to place Freeman. On potential he's a chance at a top 5 spot. On production about 20. So I've found the happy medium. Am I excited by what Freeman can become? You betcha. An explosive inside midfielder who already has a big tank that could push forward and kick goals. Problem is, he doesn't get much of the footy. Despite his big frame he's more of a receiver and he only kicked 4 goals. He's going to need some development and if he lands at Tigerland, then thank god we held onto Choco. 50/50 chance to be at our pick.

14. Blake Acres - 189cm/84kg - Utility - West Perth
Injury prone midfielder who is a great size for a midfielder. If he hadn't been injured so much he'd probably be pushing top 8-10 in these rankings but you just can't ignore consistent injuries and the fact he hasn't been on the park means a lot of Acres is based on potential rather than production. Acres has versatility to play both inside and outside as well as being able to rotate off half back or half forward as he is very strong in the air and is also a nice kick of the footy although his action seems a bit strange and awkward.

15. Luke Dunstan - 185cm/83kg - Mid - WWT
I really like Dunstan as a prospect. Similar to how I liked Vlastuin last year and I think he is underrated like Flossy was, though I don't think he's the same level talent. I've seen him rated as a 2nd rounder most likely and if he gets to there someone is getting a steal. There are better options for us at 12 but this kid will be a very good footballer and I found it hard to separate him and Acres, with Acres higher purely on potential.

16. Trent Dumont - 186cm/83kg - Mid - Norwood
A really good kid, who has grown on me as the year has gone on, with his production playing SANFL seniors just being too hard to ignore. Has worked hard to improve his kicking up to an acceptable level. I don't think Dumont will be a star but just a very solid second tier midfielder who could impact straight away.

17. George Hewett - 185cm/79kg - Mid - North Adelaide
A kid I was hoping would be available at pick 50 but I'm starting to have my doubts unfortunately. Worst case is he goes to the SA clubs in the 40's which is a shame. He's a very unassuming type and doesn't stand out but he is an excellent clearance midfielder and for anyone who still has the Champs games recorded he is worth having a look at. Just does everything really well, contested game very good, very good kick off both feet, can push forward and do scoreboard damage.

18. Dwayne Wilson - 179cm/74kg - Mid/Fwd - Sturt
Wilson came into the year looking like a 1st round prospect. Had a bit of a disappointing year and his ranking here is more on potential than production as he goes missing in games but he hasn't just lost his talent this year. Personally I have him as the best kick in the draft and whilst he is outside, he can win his own ball if required and has had games where he has got nearly 30 touches. Let him get 20 at AFL level and he will cut teams up. A chance to be there at 50 IMO.

19. Patrick Cripps - 190cm/90kg - Mid - East Fremantle
Cripps will likely go between our 2 picks so isn't a prospect for us. He has a really strong inside game and uses the ball well enough on the outside to not be a liability. He is a fantastic size for an inside mid at 190cm and 90kg and his handball skills are elite.

20. Darcy Byrne-Jones - 180cm/69kg - Defender - Oakleigh Chargers
Byrne-Jones is pretty underrated on BF I think and he's a guy that could push the top 20 on draft day. Not unlike Freeman he has that rare combination of speed and endurance and also uses the ball really well. If he wasn't 69kg I'd probably have him a bit higher to be honest.

21. Daniel McStay - 194cm/88kg - KPD - Eastern Ranges
I'm really excited by McStay as a prospect. He's super athletic for a KPP, to the point he can play on a wing. He also has a very high skill level for a backman which would allow him to play as a 3rd tall defender (think Alex Johnson from Sydney) Won't be available to us as Brisbane look likely to snap him up in the 20's.

22. Rory Lobb - 205cm/98kg - Ruck - Swan Districts
Saw a fair bit of Lobb during the season while watching Garlett and Charlie Cameron play. He is the best ruck prospect going around this year by some way, though I don't mind Darcy Cameron. At 21yo already he's huge and has the size to play now. Started the year playing WAFL reserves and through injury managed to hold down the no.1 spot at Swans all year.

23. Darcy Hourigan - 192cm/92kg - KPF - South Adelaide
Hourigan is a kid that could go either way. He's a monster size when playing on 18 year old defenders which makes it hard to judge. But from what I've seen, he's a smart user of his body and protects the drop zone extremely well. He is also capable of getting on his bike on the lead and marking so it's not purely because he's bigger and stronger that he was so dominant at Champs. Hourigan has a booming kick and can slot them from 60 or so out. Has some puppy fat and needs to get fitter but I hope we give him a chance at pick 50 if available. Second best KPF this year for mine.

24. Nicholas Robertson - 191cm/88kg - Mid - West Perth
Another West Perth mid with excellent size and another who will have to be judged on potential rather than production due to his injuries. If he stays on the park he could be a very good player but it's a huge if. At pick 50 he's probably worth the risk in this draft but we do have our fair share of injury prone players.

25. Jarman Impey - 177cm/78kg - Fwd - Murray Bushrangers
I had Impey a lot higher than this at one point, but I've slid him down because he is quite inconsistent, particularly with his kicking and he also hasn't really torn a part a game that I've seen. Having said that, he does have some exciting attributes that if developed well, he will be a damaging player at AFL level, with his combination of speed, strength and big leap.

26. Cameron McCarthy - 193cm/85kg - KPF - South Fremantle
Burst onto the scene at the National Champs and announced himself as a first round contender before breaking his leg. My biggest issue with McCarthy is he hasn't done much outside of those games. Hopefully Brisbane use pick 7 on him so someone slides to us. Not holding my breathe.

27. Nicholas Bourke - 188cm/80kg - Defender - Geelong Falcons
Whilst not the best player at the Falcons this year I feel like he has the most upside of all of them and long term could become the best of the bunch. He's a borderline pick for us at 50 so hopefully he can reach us there but I think his potential may see him go higher. He's tall and quick and very strong overhead. He uses the footy really well and is a long, raking kick. His biggest knock is that he doesn't get involved enough and will often end up with less than 20 possessions. If you're going to play as a rebounding defender you need to get more of the ball.

28. Ben Sokol - 185cm/86kg - Fwd/Mid - South Fremantle
The second of the South Freo boys. Sokol is a prospect who will probably go anywhere after 40. He's a tough one to peg down. Personally I think he could be a real player. The hidden gem in this draft. He's strong for a medium forward/midfielder and has a huge tank. However, he does have a few faults in his game like his kicking is iffy and he also looks to be carrying some conditioning with a weird body shape. Having said that at Colts level he averaged 22 possies and 2.5 goals a game so the kid can play and for a late pick would be worth a crack. A chance to be a rookie pick IMO.

29. Malcolm Karpany - 176cm/72kg - Fwd/Mid - WWT
I don't really like small midfielders. Mainly because they often struggle to make the step up to senior footy. So why do I rate Karpany in my top 30? Purely because whilst he was very good at the Champs for SA averaging something like 24 touches from memory, he has also done it at SANFL senior level against the bigger bodies and he held up well there. Doubtful he's there at 50 but he would fill a need if there. Dimma isn't a fan of short mids though so that may make it a tough sell.

30. Nick Holman - 187cm/79kg - Mid - Murray Bushrangers
Holman really caught my eye with a dominating first quarter against the NT at this years Champs. He's everything Dimma would love in a midfielder. He's a great size at 187cm and looks bigger than 79kg. He's very combative and loves a contest and I think his kicking has potential. I saw his DE% was in the low 60's but often I think he tries to do too much with it and that's something that I feel could be ironed out easily and get it up around the 70% mark which is acceptable. Most likely goes in the late 20's-30's but fingers crossed he gets through.

31. Cameron Giles - 195cm/93kg - KPD - WWT
Excellent KPD prospect. Has a very good rebounding game for a tall defender, which we didn't really see at the Champs where he worked more on his defensive game. The defensive side of his game still needs a bit of work but I feel it will get there. A chance to go to Brisbane or North in the early 30's IMO.

32. Marcus Bontempelli - 192cm/83kg - Utility - Northern Knights
I want to get excited by Bontempelli, I really do. His combine results killed it for me. I don't really think he's that good, but thought with his athletic abilities he could at least provide something from that area but he fell flat in the running there. Big chance of being pick 4 which is a win for us IMO.

33. Darcy Lang - 181cm/77kg - Mid - Geelong
My next favourite of the Geelong boys. Lang is another who got injured at the Champs this year but by all accounts has recovered well. Has a really nice burst of speed, which is something we lack. He is also hard and tough in the contest which Dimma would love on the inside. Uses the footy well and shapes as a Richmond type player but probably goes a little before us unfortunately.

34. Alex Spina - 181cm/75kg - Fwd/Mid - North Adelaide
Came into the year as a top 25 type pick and probably hasn't really justified a pick that high but the talent is there. He has great foot skills and has really nice pace. What he lacks though as a forward is a defensive game that could help bring him into games more often. Big chance to get through to us and a chance to fall into the rookie draft.

35. James Sicily - 186cm/77kg - Fwd/Mid - Western Jets
Probably the only potential draftee from the Jets is Sicily. He's that mercurial type medium forward who I think we lack and would be a nice option if we miss on Lennon. However, I have a feeling we may miss on Sicily too. Excellent player in the air but needs to improve his kicking to be really damaging up forward. There have been some comparisons to Fyfe but Fyfe is a contested beast whilst Sicily is good in the air he has barely any inside game.

36. James Battersby - 177cm/82kg - Midfielder - Sturt
Really high production kid who I was very keen on earlier in the year. He's a really nice kick of the footy but he's pretty short for his small, defensive role which probably takes away his versatility at AFL level making him a small, inside midfielder and not much else.

37. Isaiah Miller - 187cm/82kg - Defender - Bendigo Pioneers
Still not sure where I stand in Isaiah. He could literally go anywhere in this draft from around 25-rookie. Personally I thought he struggled at Champs yet he has had some very good games at TAC level. Uses the footy well and is pretty athletic. Plus he is a really nice size at 187cm for a rebounding defender.

38. Zach Merrett - 179cm/76kg - Mid/Fwd - Sandringham Dragons
Another Sandy boy gets a gig in my top 40. Merrett is an elite user of the footy and by all accounts a really good kid. One of the knocks on him is his contested game, but I'm not sure it's not because he's just so good on the outside. Against NT, he didn't seem to have any issue winning his own footy.

39. Jake Kolodjashnij - 192cm/90kg - KPD - Launceston
Talented KPD who lacks a bit of size but makes up for it with his athleticism and will to compete. Needs to make some improvements with his skills to play a 3rd tall rebounding role. Likely to go in the 20's so not for us.

40. Matt Fuller - 180cm/84kg - Defender - Norwood
Elite kick of the footy on both sides of the body and in terms of his rebounding game he's very much like Brent Guerra IMO. He's already 23yo and ready to play now and whilst Houli is a quality rebounder when he missed against the Roos we were hammered. Can push forward and kick goals, slotting through 9 this year.

41. Matt Crouch - 180cm/78kg - Mid - North Ballarat Rebels
Polarising type on the forums is Crouch. He's likely to go early in the second round but I just don't see it. He's just too lacking in the skills department for mine. His competitiveness and ball-winning ability keeps him in my rankings as someone we'd still consider at a late pick but he won't be. The draft starts to drop off around here.

42. Nick Favretto - 189cm/89kg - Mid - West Adelaide
Does this kid have enough hurt factor? That will be the question on recruiter's minds. He racks up the footy at will no matter what level he is playing at. He is also a really nice size in a draft full of short midfielders which makes him stand out a bit. Should have played more games for SA at the Champs. Could be a nice, late bargain. Probably more a rookie pick.

43. Darcy Cameron - 203cm/102kg - Ruck - Claremont
Talented young ruck from WA. Was pretty good at Champs but he wasn't up against much and in hindsight probably should have done more. He's decent around the ground and uses the footy well. Probably shapes as a 40+ pick.

44. James Toohey - 197cm/96kg - KPD/Utility - Oakleigh Chargers
Whilst not as talented, Toohey is in the Roughead mould in terms of versatility. He is an overage kid who can play up forward, through the midfield, in the ruck but I think he's best suited as a tall, athletic KPD who can launch the footy 60m+. He's very competitive and whilst he needs to work on the defensive aspects of his games, he seems to have a drive to succeed. Worth a punt late or as a rookie.

45. Lewis Taylor - 173cm/73kg - Mid - Geelong Falcons
High production midfielder who is very small. Can rack up the footy like no other but can run around like a headless chook at times and get himself and teammates into trouble. At his size and with his decision making I'm far from convinced he will make it at AFL level.

46. Cameron Conlon - 198cm/87kg - KPF/Ruck - Northern Knights
Another Northern player up for grabs. Hasn't actually played any footy for about 18 months with varying injuries but has 1st round talent. Won;t go that high and will be a bargain for someone IF he stays healthy. However, as we've learnt with Griff, injuries don't always disappear and do prevent development. Probably not for mine. We have a lot of lanky, tall forwards.

47. Tom Cutler - 190cm/86kg - Def/Mid - Oakleigh Chargers
Another cut down by injuries but likely goes in the 15-35 range of the draft. As a defender he's a bit short but I quite like him as a big midfielder, which is all based on gut feel. Has a good footy brain, great size, uses the footy well and makes great decisions which would make him a handful in the midfield.

48. Sam Lloyd - 180cm/83kg - Fwd - Frankston Dolphins
Another of the older brigade that I think is a chance to be drafted. He's a 23yo small forward playing in the VFL who kicked 38 goals in 17 games. He's a threat both in the air and at ground level and I'd think Jamie Elliot is a pretty decent comparison in this regard. Kicked 4 for the VFL team against the WAFL this year as well.

49. Charlie Cameron - 183cm/72kg - Fwd - Swan Districts
19yo from Swan Districts who comes from a rugby background and his defensive pressure proves it. Seen a little of him from watching Garlett and I thought he was pretty decent at Champs level. Nice prospect up forward as a late pick/rookie. Still needs to hit the scoreboard more but that will come as he keeps developing his game. Nice size at 183cm.

50. Riley Knight - 180cm/72kg - Mid - WWT
Another WWT player. Knight is a competitive beast with a never say die attitude. I'm not sold on his kicking but that's the only reason I can see him sliding. He's very much in the Rory Sloane mould where he hates losing a contest and at pick 50 would be handy. He's also capable of going forward and kicking a goal occasionally.

51. Alex Saunders - 180cm/70kg - Fwd/Mid - Gippsland Power
The first of a few Gippy players who I think are a chance to be rookied. Averaged 1.5 goals per game this year and I really liked his game against NT as well. Was zippy and dangerous and when he wasn't getting the ball he was chasing and harassing and therefore keeping himself involved in the game. Has a reasonable tank and could play a Brad Hill type role eventually but needs to work on finding more of the footy.

52. George Hampson - 188cm/79kg - Utility - Subiaco
Yet another mature age player on my list. There will be some value in these guys and I hope we don't consider Matt Thomas until a very late pick. Hampson won Subiaco's B&F this year and you can pretty much play him anywhere. He is quick, has a big tank, can win his own ball and use it well. I think he will start off a HBF and transition up to a wing and be able to push forward and kick goals.

53. Will Maginness - 182cm/75kg - Mid - Oakleigh Chargers
Another potential late gem in this draft. I have a feeling I have him too low but oh well. Very solid player who is good at the stoppages but also uses the footy really well. Will probably be on the board for us at our 2nd/3rd pick.

54. Louis Herbert - 188cm/77kg - Fwd - North Ballarat Rebels
19yo who missed out on last years draft but returned an even better player. The draft is starting to plateau out into guys with holes in their games or are small and not overly athletic. Herbert however, is 188cm and very quick and strong overhead. He also uses the ball quite well. The only question will be is can he transition into the midfield even as a pinch-hitting rotation to give the better mids a break.

55. Ben Kearns - 186cm/80kg - Fwd - Gippsland Power
The next of the Gippy guys who I think is a rookie chance. I quite liked the look of Kearns last year and was surprised he missed out. He is quick and very strong for a medium forward. Kicked 5 goals in a VFL game so has even proved himself at a higher level. He is very damaging up forward and may even find himself as a late pick on Thursday.

56. Brady Grey - 179cm/82kg - Fwd/Mid - Burnie Dockers
Small forward who can play up through the midfield due to the fact he has a solid, strong body and uses the footy really well. Has played a few other sports before turning to footy and he has a nice combination of speed and agility which make him quite elusive up forward. Rookie chance.

57. Francis Watson - 185cm/74kg - Fwd - Claremont
A really nice medium forward prospect from WA. Whilst not as big I think he has potential to become what we would have hoped Troy Taylor and Carl Peterson became. He chases and harasses and is very dangerous in front of the big sticks. His weapons are his speed, leap and goal sense. He played in the indigenous game that is held before DT at the G.

58. Campbell Combe - 178cm/82kg - Mid - North Adelaide
Whilst not big or athletically gifted, Combe did his draft chances no harm at the Champs. He's a fighter and was always at the bottom of packs winning the ball for his team. Tough as nails and would be ready to go from day one.

59. James Tsitas - 181cm/78kg - Mid - Geelong Falcons
Really good midfielder at TAC level who I have a few concerns that he lacks a weapon for AFL level. Busts his arse off though and will give himself every chance to make it.

60. Luke Reynolds - 188cm/86kg - Fwd - Port Adelaide Magpies
Medium forward with sticky hands and an excellent left foot kick. One of the better kicks in the draft in fact. His lack of athleticism may see him struggle as a medium forward and he just doesn't rack up the footy enough to warrant an earlyish pick.

61. Clayton McCartney - 178cm/74kg - Fwd - Dandenong Stingrays
Small forward with nice skills and a really good footy brain. Not the quickest bloke going around but always manages to find himself loose through good positioning. I think he's a real chance to go on Thursday.

62. Steven Edwards - 182cm/73kg - Defender - Claremont
Rebounding defender from Claremont who was dominant early in the year. He really slowed down later in the year and there are some querying whether it's the WA clubs playing funny buggers with us all.

63. Errin Wasley-Black - 187cm/83kg - Defender - NT Thunder
Had big wraps coming into the year and probably didn't live up to expectation but as a defender and a more outside type, playing for NT was going to be difficult. Foot skills need some work but he's a nice size and athletic so scrapes in.

64. Nathan Gordon - 188cm/88kg - Fwd/Mid - North Adelaide
Gordon is the ex-Sydney midfielder and yet another mature-ager on my list. Started the year off really well kicking a couple of bags of goals. Season died off in the latter part and may have cost himself a spot. Talent it there though.

65. Kane Lambert - 178cm/78kg - Mid - Northern Blues
Promising young midfielder from the VFL. 21yo and very competitive. Only small and I think he's more of a rookie chance.

66. Richard Bourne - 178cm/61kg - Fwd/Mid - East Fremantle
Speedy midfielder with a pretty decent tank and exquisite skills. Can anyone pick the downside in his listings? 61kg!! He'll blow over if a breeze gets through the doors at Etihad.

67. Jake Owen - 191cm/84kg - Mid - Calder Cannons
Big midfielder who has a reasonable forward game. Very good in congestion but lacks a fair bit of pace.

68. Chris Cain - 181cm/82kg - Mid - Port Melbourne

69. Jono Marsh - 192cm/87kg - Fwd/Mid - East Fremantle
Not a huge fan of Marsh but the upside is there so had to include him in the list. Not sold he's a KPF though.

70. Tom Langdon - 189cm/85kg - Def - Sandringham Dragons
Another 19yo who missed out last year but has played some good footy this year and is a really high character kid. Uses the footy well rebounding off the HBF.

71. Jarrad Jansen - 190cm/91kg - Mid - East Fremantle
Size! Jansen is a beastly size for an inside mid and with the game trending towards big midfielders he's a chance to go. Not completely sold on him as a prospect and I don't feel his kicking is good enough.

72. Aaron Heppell - 182cm/80kg - Mid - Gippsland Power
Younger brother of Dyson, Aaron doesn't have the same level foot skills but is probably on par in terms of midfield game, making him a handy prospect.

73. Josh Miller - 204cm/94kg - Ruck - Glenelg
Young tap ruckman from SA who is a nice size at 204cm and quite mobile. With a late rookie pick, he'd be worth investing in and developing for the future.

74. Michael Wood - 189cm/76kg - Fwd - Subiaco
Medium forward from Subiaco who is a strong mark but very thin. Not sure there will be much demand for this type and he's a fair way down the list.

75. Tim Kelly - 181cm/78kg - Fwd/Mid - South Fremantle
19 yo forward who is quite clean around the stoppages and a goal scoring threat. Maybe a late chance.

I feel as though you contradicted yourself with your write up of Merrett. As you said, he showed that he was capable of winning his own ball but he is too good on the outside. So I don't think you can knock his inside game. Just as you love Templeton, I'm a huge fan of Merrett. Big chance to go first round too.
Great read. Thanks for that tigs.

You see this is what troubles me RT - You want to recuit a player that is just a stop gap for 1 year that as you said is a known quality which has shown he doesnt offer enough at AFL level.

The speculative pick kid might just be the next Betts/Milne or even a Foley type kid that can come through to establish himself
McDonough is the exact type we should be looking for at these selections

We dont need average backup players we need to always go for quality that will improve our list with youth unless its a glaring deficiency on our list that needs adressing
Looking at it from a longer term point of view, rather than just 2013 drafting in isolation, there is supposedly a lot more depth next year. So it could make sense to add a ready to go role player as a 12 month rookie, then take an extra quality kid next year. The kid this year could be a Betts/Milne, but the odds are he'll be a dud, wasting the same list spot as Thomas, but nowhere near as capable of coming in and playing a role if required.

Great work Tigs!!!

Do you not rate Darcy Gardiner or did i miss him??

Nary a Hartung to be seen either. :O

About Merrett, I'd be wary about kids who feast on NT. Merrett's done some nice things in other matches, but I generally ignored the form of players against NT. It's like beating up against Melbourne, means little IMO.

Oops that wasn't what I meant to write. Was meant to write it's one of the knocks on his game from others. Not me. My mistake.

Don't really rate him. On the short side, not that athletic. Has the running style of a gimpy ruckman. I'm probably missing something though.

Yeah I've said my peace on Hartung. Soft, small and average character. There are probably other players in my list that are of average character that I'm unaware of and won't go.

Merrett can play. Was just using his NT game as an example that he actually has somewhat of a contested game albeit it's his outside game that is a strength.

Thursday hurry up and give us the best midfielder available (hoping for a few sliders!) :thumbsu:

I'm resigning myself to no sliders so I won't be disappointed. Happy if we get one. :D

Yeah I like Merrett and I think he has the form to be rated, that was just a general comment about NT, they're generally rubbish, and were rank this year. It woudn't surprise me if you never see a NT player in the top ten for decades.

A mate of mine follows Westies and he has mentioned this kid a few times. From the AFL Website

"Only played the one game at the 2013 National U18 Championships, but was good for West Adelaide's reserves in the SANFL. He finished in the top five at the Bloods' reserves best and fairest count after averaging 20 possessions a game. The 188cm midfielder has the ability to drift back into defence and possesses serious speed off the mark, clocking 2.92s for the 20m sprint at the state combine. Displays very good skills on both sides of his body and consistently finds his target by both hand and foot, as demonstrated by his 85.1% disposal efficiency at reserves level for West Adelaide. Makes good decisions under pressure. "

Quick, dual sided and good decision maker sounds like a great Rookie pick. Do we continue our West Adelaide connection?

PS - Thanks for the list Tigs, good stuff :thumbsu:

I can't see Sheed going to Carlton.

If available at 12 RFC nearly has to pick him, safe, track record, just can't go wrong and left footer who can play inside and out as you say.

Apart from Scharenberg if Sheed gets picked at 12 their could hardly be any fallout at all. Not that FJ should worry about fallout but then you have the good chance to get a very good player.

I must admit if Eagles worried soley about Sheed IMO probably not trade to 11. IMO they may be looking at Acres or others as well.

For us pick like Dunstan would be handy but with Sheed better speed I think and track record plus the leadership. You would have to be in love with another player for RFC to let Sheed go through to the keeper at 12 IMO.

My gut feel thinks Acres but at 12 the head thinks Sheed like it would with Scharenberg and even KK

afl.com had the final order for Thursday's draft yesterday and has us with:
12
50
66
78
88
93 (to be used for rookie elevation)

Are either clueless or we have it all wrong. I suspect the former.

Another note Templeton to me looks a little like a young Daisy Thomas. Don't mind him but no way at 12.

If Templeton available at 50 I probably would pick him tbh

If we get Templeton at 50 tigs2010 is gonna need some new pants ;)
