And you can be certain that Jenkins will be doing some ruckwork! I have been very vocal that Jenkins is not a ruckman's arseh*le but the clubs seems to be pushing him into the ruck at every opportunity they get.
How many have you seen?

No. There will still be the digruntled player who doesnt qualify as a free agent that will want to move on. Today there was only one, but there will be more in years to come. If you get rid of the PSD, do they then have to go into the ND? Can they still name a price then?
Yes, they can go in the ND. Yes, they can name their price.

The PSD has been nothing more than a bargaining chip for a while now, it is completely irrelevant with the advent of FA.

Why was there 8 players selected in the PSD last year, when FA was around, and they could've named their prices?

This year could be an anomaly, with so few picks. You can't just kill it from one bad year.

The players have less certainty about where they will end up in the ND. Most clubs fill their rosters in the ND, leaving relatively few to claim players in the PSD. This allows the players greater power in determining their future - as we saw with Tiprat.

This alone is another good reason to axe it completely. If a player wants to walk out on their club, without the benefit of free agency, then they should take their chances in the ND. They shouldn't be able to use the PSD as a threat hanging over the head of their former club.

I don't disagree that they should take their chances, but it won't make a squat of difference to the likes of Tippett. His price was so high that Sydney could've used pick #105 in the ND, cos no-one could afford him.

For the likes of Jed Lamb, however, it would probably force GWS to pay a reasonable pick in the ND.

I think it will disappear eventually, but the lack of 2013 PSD picks alone is not enough to show it's not a reasonable option.

And if they do remove it, delistings can't happen after the ND (like they can now).

Should the PS draft be held closer to the season start ...to allow clubs who may have suffered serious injuries in the PS training period & PS games to be replaced

Any merit?

They just changed it this year to bring it closer to the start of pres season training, so that players had more time to learn the team instructions.

Injuries happen. That's why we have squads of 44.

But it simply doesn't make any sense to have a PS draft for players to go on the main list ..1 week after the National draft ...Stupid!

Forget learning team gameplans, getting AFL fit and all that crap .......If Jacobs does a knee in PS training or PS game ...what you going to do

Why not give clubs that last opportunity to top up lists to cover off longterm injuries ......it's simply not just for players out of contract to get to their club of choice ala Free Agency (Tippett)

Make the PS draft closer to season proper and you remove the Free Agency mechanism that currently exists and Tippett like players then have to run the National Draft gambit :thumbsu:

:thumbsu: It is Free Agency for players 8 years and under
