It's not about what I think is better, if you're confident that Mundy will average more than Hartlett then yes, it's better. Personnel aside, I like this structure better. (I'd probably start Stevenson over Vlastuin and Macaffer over Mayes though) 4 starting 1st year players is more than enough...5 tops

Yeah will fix that. Will continue to muck around with it and get right.

I reckon he would be.. A year more experience at AFL level does a lot. But I think Smith won't be DT Reverent this year.. As most of his points will be Hit-outs which he won't get when Teams like Fremantle, West Coast and Hawthorn vs Gold Coast.. He won't be able to beat Cox, Nic Nat, Sandi and Hale. :thumbsu: He won't kick goals because the ball won't be up Gold Coasts end Most games... There are better options in DT.

Zac Smith
2011: Kicks 6.8 Hballs 6.6 Disp 13.4 Mark 3.0 Goal 5 Hitout 16.4 FF 1.8
1012: Kicks 3.4 Hballs 9.0 Disp 12.4 Mark 2.1 Goal 14 Hitout 18.4 FF 0.9

Apart from kicking less goals and getting a lot less free's for, Smith's 2012 numbers were pretty close to what he was getting in 2011, his average hit outs even went up by 2 which is important for a ruckman for obvious reasons.

12.4 possies per game is ok for a ruckman, but his kick to handball ratio is a concern. Basically, if your number 1 ruck is not averaging 25+ hit outs per game and somewhere close to a goal a game, he's not going to average anything over 75, especially if most of his possesions are hand balls and he historically doesn't take many marks around the ground.

So I'd be asking myself

A) will Smith increase his hitout average by at least 7?
B) Will he start taking a few more marks?
C) Will he rest in the forward line or on the bench?
D) Will he kick the ball when he gets it instead of dishing it of by hand more often than not

Even with natural improvement, I can't see anything better than 73-79 average for Smith this year. Which is nowhere near enough for a starting ruck.

You have to put his selection into perspective though. In reality, he will be required for a maximum of 8 weeks. Considering his starting price and the opportunity he has as number 1 ruck, he will be an easy upgrade for a premium forward when Cox is eventually shifted into the rucks.

The real question is how you use the extra cap space saved by opting for Smith. Smith's lack of genuine premium scoring power can be compensated for across the entire squad.

Of course, but I'd still want at least one of my starting rucks averaging more than 75 though.

DEF: 3 guns. Heppell @ D3 ATM because he's supposedly going to be a midfielder this year and looked pretty fit the last time I saw him on TV. Although there are a few other options for his spot that I could replace him with on a whim. Birchall, Hartlett, Hanley in particular.

MIDS: I like ROK's early draw, very hard to resist. Would like to think I could sideways him to Pendles without too much trouble after the first price rise. Greene has been a lock for me since Dec, so no point going on about him any more.

RUCKS: The 2 highest averaging rucks of last year. Nuff said/

FWDS: Bartel to become SJ in Rd2 unless he scores 130+ in Rd1 then he would become SJ after the first price change. Roo, love his early draw. Upgrade to Buddy IN rD5 as mentioned prev. Karneeeezis as my mid pricer. Will stay there if he keeps playing in the mids and accumulating 20+ possies per game.

Hi guys, first time poster and looking for an opinion on my Dream Team.

B: Goddard, Gibbs, Hartlett, Pittard, Goodes, Stevenson (Heath, Terlich)
C: Swan, Ablett, Boyd, Pendlebury, S.Selwood, Wines, O'Meara, Viney (Crouch, Kent)
R: Smith, Leuenberger (Rowe, Currie)
F: Cox, Bartel, Rockliff, Robinson, Martin, Byrnes (Macaffer, Neade)

Cheers.

BlackandWhiteglory I'm thinking you are spending too much on your Forwards. I'd downgrade Martin and upgrade Smith from your rucks.

Other than that, not bad. Maybe, just maybe 1 premo short down back.

Fitzey I'm guessing you are picking Griffen because of Sandilands injury. Have you thought about downgrading Martin or Roo and just save a trade and have Cox in the ruck and use that saved trade elsewhere? No Franklin?

I see alot of people using the 3 premos in defence and using the other premo elsewhere, I'm unsure on that but each to their own I guess. It looks ok.

Edit- damn you fitzey. that's twice you've got me on a team edit ha ha

I can't speak for others, but for me a 3 premo Def works because Pittard & Stevenson aren't rookies and Goodes is 28 years old. Terlich is mature aged and Docherty is second year who probably should have played a few games last year. It's not like in the mids where most will have 2-3 first year 18-19 year olds starting.

Messed with my team a bit, made a few hundred changes. Can I please have some opinions?

Back: Goddard Stanley Gibbs Vlastuin Pittard Goodes / Docherty Terlich

Mid: Swan Cotchin Redden Barlow Lower Whitfield Wines O'Meara / Mitchell Viney

Ruck: Goldstein Berger / Rowe Grundy

Forward: Franklin Cox Zorko Rockliff Lecras Varcoe / Growden Lee

Thanks in advance!

I like it! Although not sure on Goldstein this year and he hasn't shown any signs of returning to his 2011 form...not to mention Currie being so impressive so far could dampen his scoring potential.

B: Goddard, Grimes, Gibbs, Heppell, Goodes, Stevenson (Heath, vlaustuin)
C: Swan, Cotchin, Pendlebury, Barlow, Hartlett, Wines, O'Meara, Viney (Crouch, mitchell)

Exactly they are the two highest, won't neccesarily be the highest this season, i still have questions over Ivan
Hmmmn i shall also be watching Karnezis as he plays out over the next few weeks

I think the opposite as far as Marić goes, would have averaged 100+ if not for the massive work load and resulting groin problems during the latter stages of last year. Is coming into his prime now and with some half decent back up from Vickery I can see him replicating last years average at the least. Takes a lot of marks around the ground for a big fella. If he can stay fit can't see why he would drop off...

I've just changed my team to be Swanless!!!
Thought about it for a while and decided that I can't see Swan outscoring Pendles by 30 points (assuming the magic number is around 40) so I'm thinking their prices will be less than 50k apart after 6-7 rounds rather than 120k like it is now.
Current team.
Goddard, Gibbs, Heppell, Pittard, Stevenson, Goodes (Terlich, Docherty/Vlastuin)
GAJ, Pendles, Jelwood, Murphy, O'Keefe, Wines, Mitchell, O'Meara (Crouch, Lonergan/Viney)
Griffen, Luey (Rowe, Currie)
Buddy, Cox, Zorko, Rocky, Martin, McAffer (Lycett, Neade)

$80k left

Really like Jelwwod this year. Think he is underpriced by about 10 points and is somewhat of a POD from what I have seen.
Lycett gives me a really nice DPP with Rowe while still leaving Cox in the FWD's and I think he'll avg. 70-75 this year and is guaranteed of playing the first 6 rounds atleast I think.
Plan is that O'Keefe goes up $50-80k and Swan goes down the same , straight swap around round 6-7, probably dreaming but a nice idea!!

Thoughts??

I like it, although I just don't see Jelwood as anything more than a 105 DT premo. Could easily be a top 5 premo in SC though. Plenty of better options IMHO and you do have the cash to upgrade him to anyone else other than Swanny...

Cheers, have changes Jelwood to Boyd for now. Other option was Cotchin but I'm not sold on him shaking the tag and I think he'll get the #1 tag most weeks.

Selwood averaged 108 in 2011 and that involves his round 1 score of 27 where he got injured. So he can and could easily again average close to if not more than 110+ which would put him in the top 10 mids quite easily. With SJ going to play more midfield time and Bartel more up forward, i can only see Selwood improving his output as a result. SJ is more damaging by foot, so opposition teams will put more attention to him. I personally think Joel will get back to his 2011 form.

Hmm it's not beyond him, but we'll see...only played 17 H&A games in 2011...

deledio then if u think cotch will get the tag i can see lids racking up some massive scores this year

Ok this is what I really think. Lycett is wasted money on you Fwd bench, as you already have Cox as a DP link with Rowe. I would downgrade Lycett to the cheapest Fwd rook who is named in Rd1 and upgrade Jelwood to Swan. There, I said it.

Yeah just realised Lycett is only a FWD but it still stands that apart from maybe MacAffer he will outscore all FWD rookies and unlike Lee/Neade, guaranteed of playing the first 6-7 rounds.

You honestly think Swan will outscore on average GAJ by 10, Boyd by 25, Pendles by 30 and Murphy by 40?? Unless Swan is going to come out and smash 150's I just don't think he is worth the money.

Even if he does smash the start and let's say outscore Pendles by 20-30, the $120k saved can easily make up that difference.
