Agreed with this partly - however Ball was everything the pies missed last year, his intensity and tackling ability is awesome, so certainly in the pies best 22 - however cannot see him averaging more than 85 for all the reasons listed

I'm fine with that.. If he averages 85 that's a win for me and a nice healthy price rise I can directly trade into a premium down the track.

Luke Ball is essentially a one trick pony and could quite easily slot back into the starting midfield and push a guy like Swan out to the wing. Most Collingwood supporters will suggest that he is in there best 22 and even 18.

Making an argument for the sake of your own opinion now I think.
Ball is definately in their best 22 when fit but i can only see him having bit parts in the side especially early on in the season so that is why i cant see him averageing anywhere near 90. Collingwood also wont push Swan out to the wing either. I am tipping guys like Omeara, Viney and even Crouch who should all get games early on will keep pace if not outscore Ball especially in the first couple of months of the seaon

Swan has slowly started to play out on a wing more, even half forward before drifting through the midfield.

I could make a case to pick or not pick every player in the comp. Ball SHOULD average more than 3 of any of the rookies I pick. He has the potential to score hundreds and that is the reason I am in his bandwagon..

Okay so there is no confusion Swan wont play wing behind luke ball - he will be part of a midfield rotation that is made up of at least 8 players

Luke Ball can really only play midfield. Jump on the Collingwood board and ask where Ball will play? Almost everyone will say midfield. He was the missing link for them last year. I don't care what anyone thinks, he is in my side come round 1 :thumbsu:

And all those midfileders are ahead of Ball at present which makes it very hard to see how Ball is going to get enough game time to justify picking him. The point i am making is that Ball is in their best 22 but will be limited with his output particularly in the first half of the season

There isnt a great history of 200k-300k midpricers ever doing well in this game so they are just as risky as picking rookies and will probably score about the same. Guys like Lecras and Varcoe are going to need to score 4 goals a game to even average around 80 and thats not going to happen every week. They are more likely to average 60-70 most weeks which is about as much as a decent rookie will who will actually make u more money for upgrades down the track. Look at Milne last year who had a reasonable year playing in similar roles to that of Varcoe and Lecras and he only averaged 69.
once again i come back to my point about there be no real decent forward rookies this year and some potentially very good 200k guys and using history has there ever been this many good 200k guys???

Wouldn't have thought there was much doubt about Ball being in Collingwood's best 22 - they missed him sorely last year, you're not going to find a more genuine in-and-under midfielder anywhere. He's never had a huge time-on-field percentage throughout his career, so I don't see the emergence of Beams et al being an issue in terms of how much action he'll see (especially with Wellingham gone). He's just good value IMO.

WOW! It really does look like everyone has had enough of SHAUN HIGGINS I reckon this is the year (I know its like all of us saying richmond will make the 8 this year) However he has had a injury free preseason first time in his career!!!! Surely he has to be on a few coaches rador!!!

As you get closer to the season and watch a bit of NAB cup youll find a few who rookies who will jump out and be in line to get games early on. Staker, Daniher, Macaffer might be decent to start off with

Ball is a lock in the starting 18 and the Pies missed him big time last year. Nobody last year filled his role which is an in and under tackling machine and he'll slot straight back into that role.

Coud not agree more - perfect summary of Balls value to the pis, still doesnt make him a great SC pick

Thats not the issue here. We all know Ball is in their best 22. The issue is whether he is a good SC pick or not and i think he isnt even at his discounted price

Solid avg of mid 90's 2008-2011.

Still in a good age...ill take the punt at 300k

Dont think you can take into account his form at Stkilda as Colligwood have got more quality mids running around that he will have to compete against for gametime especially with the emergence of Beams last year who came good after Ball went down. Also coming off a knee injury he will be eased back in early on and wont be at his best till at least half way through the season

Then your mind is made up. I'll take the punt and pray for the best :)

He'll be Lenny Hayes of 2012

I will be interesting to visit this page again after round 5 to see whether your right. Lenny has always been a SC gun who was always capable of 120-130s so it was expected he would carve it up last year coming back into a midfield that had very little competition for spots . Ball has plenty of competition for gametime and even at his best and injury free has never been a heavy SC scorer so its not really a good comparison

Ball will score moderately good scores. He won't get the high 100's but 80-100 is good enough for a guy priced at 300k. He will also allow you consistently passable scores as a midfielder and the freedom to add an extra premium elsewhere.

The SC system works for him as does the fact everybody involved with Collingwood wants to blow him. He is highly regarded and a guaranteed starter in the best 18.

If he gets me 75-100 at 300k, i'll take that.
