Less than what?

That's the problem. There is no set amount that a player is worth. Clubs will see players differently and have different valuations.

Yeah, sounds fair I wonder if the Lions would accept 2 third rounders for Polec.

That one we get from the doggies and ours. Picks about 42 and 46

So we get Howard and Polec for Henderson and a 3rd pick.

Sydney should have the same salary cap as everyone else, and the AFL then pays the COLA to each player, based on the contract submitted to the AFL.

So I am taking that you think that howard and pick 40 for Henderson is as likely as pick 40 and pick 46 for polec. That's a big call.
I don't think howard and our third round pick is that far off the mark for Henderson. Polec. Well port are willing to offer their first round pick for him I believe.

That wouldn't work because they can still determine who gets what. I'm saying that only low paid players should get extra cash. Besides there's not much difference in the cost of living between syd and melb these days.

Isn't that what happens now?

It makes no difference anyway.

As I said before, the Swans just take 10% off the contract they submit. COLA brings it back to status quo, it doesn't add 10% on.

You'd be wrong. I don't think Polec is that "talent" that Hinkley talked about when suggesting a first rounder isn't usually on the table.

I actually think Howard & 40 is unders; is Howard contracted? He re-signed in 2011, would have have gotten a 3 year deal then?

The major difference is, Henderson still has 2 years on his contract to run. Polec is out of contract.

I'm predicting a fair deal for Polec would be between pick 30 and 40 however, some deals are not all ways fair. That's why i feel be the end, the Lions could accept the 2 3rd round picks as it's better than nothing.

I'm also basing it on the fact Polec picks the crows, not port.

Not far of the mark would prefer Howard an your second for hendo and our third.
 
I'll go big (and long) on my first post. If Buddy goes to GWS I reckon we'll make a play for Tom Boyd (Sando did say we were looking for another KPF ;)). Nobel has shown he's willing to get creative at the trade table, through the original crouch proposal, and he was working on getting us a pick of toumpas (top 3) before the Tippett saga blew up. Also don't think they get a superstar that they are hoping for.
Could potentially see something like the following:

(1)Mackay + Henderson +Lyons -> Melbourne for pick 2, Demons get three starting 22 players.
(2)Smack +42 -> Second rounder (potentially Collingwood's + Martin)
(3) Three way trade: Collingwwod's second for someone like Pears or Alex Silvagni who then ends up at GWS + Luke Thompson + Pick 2 for Pick 1 and Shaun Edwards.

Add Betts through FA and Polec PSD our Trade period would look like:
IN: Betts, Polec, Edwards, Martin, Boyd (pick 1)
Out: Smack, Mackay, Henderson, Lyons, Thompson, pick 42

Best 22 (if fit)
Laird Rutten Brown
Otten Talia Smith
Sloane Thompson Douglas
Lynch Tex Grigg
Betts Boyd Jenkins
Sauce Danger Crouch
Bench: Vb Vince Reilly Sub: Polec

Well that's a good point.
In regards to Polec. He was a first round pick either last year or year before. Lions saying they are playing hard ball. is two 3rd round picks equal to a 2nd round pick. The third round picks are early ones. Might need something else to get it over the line.

I agree that Howard and pick 40 is unders. Was curious on how far that is off the mark. I didn't get scoffed at by the suggestion though.
I believe Howard is out of contract but not certain. The Howard-Henderson Trade is one of the most sense trades though. both wanting to go back home to their home town. Hendo a ballarat boy.

For some reason Howard just couldn't make it. Has all the skills to be a great half back. Drafted him as a first round pick as supposedly you guys were going to take him with a early second round. Was meant to be our Gilbee replacement.

Good to see it isn't far off the mark.
The only way I can see doing that trade and having two third round's for us is if we don't have to trade pick 22 for Crameri. As I believe yesterday the AFL was going to decide if bombers players can leave as delisted free agents due to the duty of care rule. Otherwise we need pick 22 for Crameri.
But I do understand you guys want our second round pick as you guys want to get into the first 2 rounds of the draft, and also make a play for polec.
I reckon the crows and dogs can work out a deal.
Also think it would be good if the dogs and crows can work out a good relationship and make trades a lot easier to occur, especially with home sick players.
For instace the dogs and eagle have made some trades which are way unders. Josh hill to the eagles one year, and we got stevens really cheap of them the following year.

And, by maintaining the status quo, they have gained almost a million dollars.

I believe the AFL planned on taking over the COL payments soon? So they could show all the other teams that the players were all getting it and they weren't hoarding it for one single player. But then as Carl said, Swans just knock off 10% of the asking price and say to the player "you'll get that back from the AFL as a CoL payment".

Why would Melbourne give up Pick 2 for two fringe players - one injury-prone - and a bloke who has only showed flashes of top level footy?

I don't disagree.

Right now, Player X sees he is earning $300K. Which is $270K from Sydney & 30K from the AFL.

Vic Team A offers him $300K to move, but he thinks "oh they are same, I'll hang around". But they aren't.

If the AFL paid the COLA, Player X would see his value as $300K and not the $270K he getting now.

You do that for every player on the list, and you can easily rack up an extra million.
