Before starting I have already posted in the Dean Bailey thread and it would be devastating for all his family. Having been through the same with my own father I wish him all the very best. Lung cancer is bad especially when it gets to the lymph nodes. It is horrible luck for Dean and I hope he gets the best medical care possible. It looks bad and I can't see him returning to football any time soon.

That said it is also horrible luck for the club. I don't think the Crows can go through another space of time without replacing Dean with someone else. While he might be able to assist Sando in between treatment over the pre season, the crows need to look longer term and think about someone in Dean's role to assist as I think Sando still needs that wise voice of reason in the box game day.

Who knows Dean may be back by the start of the season or he may not. I don't think the AFC can wait until then to make a decision. We should be looking around at the pool of ex coaches or assistants that may want to get back into the box. Vossy comes to mind, but I'm sure there are others. We are in a similar situation to the Saints at the wrong time in the season. We can't let it drag on.

Really?

Not go out and start looking this instant PJ..its not what the thread is intended..probably too soon...mods take it down if you think it seem insensitive..not my intention.

I think it's a fair enough thread frankly. There's a separate thread about Dean Bailey's health where we can post about that issue, but the fact is that it is also a pretty major issue for our footy team. This is, after all, a football forum.

As long as it stays respectful, I don't see why this thread is inappropriate.

Nah - fair enough , I'm probably being over sensitive :thumbsu:

It's a very valid query, and I don't see it as disrespectful to Dean Bailey.

This could have some setbacks on the Crows season in 2014, as I believe Bailey to be a key part to the coaches box.

I believe a replacement (whether it be temporary or permanent) needs to be found. Voss is mentioned above, but that won't happen - He's just signed on to do that TV show for Fox8.

Anyone else (decent) available?

(Inb4 Neeld and Watters)

Would John Worsfold be interested?

There is two threads - one paying respect and one wanting to know whats next and where to for the Club.

If something happened to Sando, the same thread would follow as well.

FYI - I want Bailey back when he is up to it. I think he played a role in 2012.

Im fine for this thread and was going to start it myself.

The sad reality is this will rule dean out for the entire year even if he recovers. The way Trigg was talking I already think dean has left permanently, they are just trying to cushion the blow. I think you will find they are already looking. Its not insensitive at all to pose this question as Dean himself would be telling the club to find a replacement.

Woosha would be great, maybe even Ratten, I don't think he was that bad

I rate Watters if he's interested and think Saints were stupid to get rid of I him so early with that shambles of a list he had to work with. Probably one of the better options going around.

Don't think worsfold would be interested, think he's looking to take a break from footy...

He's only recently stepped down from GM at AFL NSW/ACT to spend more time with his family, and tertiary studies, so it's doubtful he's go back on that.

Replacement needs to be someone with prior AFL coaching experience at assistant level or above.
This!!!

There's no point getting a recently retired player because how are they possibly going to give Sando the advice he seems to be lacking which someone like Bailey was there to provide? He needs someone that's sat in the box for a while before who knows how it all works to give him useful suggestions.
