Completely blanketed him except for the 6 goals he kicked.
4 in the last. Midfield dominance played a large part in that. There's only so many times you can stop it.
Zaine kept him to about 5 touches and 2 goals in the first 3 quarters. Both goals coming close to the end of the 3rd. Dominated him before then.
Clearly enough to work with.

The part that scares me is I have seen him play well for 2 quarters but get smashed in the other 2 needs to be more consistent

This scenario could all be pushed back in the event that Melbourne lose Frawley (which seems likely IMO).

1. St Kilda - McCartin
2. Brisbane - Wright
3. GWS - Durdin
4. Melbourne - Brayshaw
5. Melbourne - Goddard (even though I think he will drop).
6. Carlton - Petracca
7. Western Bulldogs - Duggan

During the post-draft interview last year with our head recruiter (Shane Rogers) he indicated that during discussions regarding Cripps vs. McCarthy (who later went to GWS with the next pick IIRC?) that we were better off holding out and taking a tall in next years draft crop (2014), which would indicate that we are planning on going tall at our first pick.

However, in saying that - he has been known to bluff in the past, so I'm hoping for best available from our perspective one of either: McCartin, Wright, Durdin, Petracca, Brayshaw (in that order).
If melb get pick 5 for frawley that is a disgrace

They will - given his commanding salary, they'll receive Band 1 Compensation which is directly after their first pick.

I was hoping they would beat you last week so it wouldn't have affected us.

Let's hope they win 5 on the trot then , I like Henderson more than frawley and Carlton wouldn't get pick 5 for him ... What about Brock do you think the club re signs him ?

Gone IMO.

Some of the media/radio interviews he's given lately seem to indicate that he is over footy and doesn't love or have the passion for the game anymore and its showing in his play.

We've got replacements that he is keeping out of the side anyway (Graham, Holman) who have performed well at VFL level.

he is being played out of position though should be just thrown into the guts and kept there can play footy

I stand corrected (re goal tally).

Point remains: to suggest that recruiters look at the surname of a kid before they consider on-field ability (as alluded to by a poster previously) is still laughable.

Petrecca would suit Carlton beautifully I'd think.

Heard anything about the dogs lately? Sorry to be annoying I just get excited when I see you post on our board :p

Thanks mate - appreciate it!

The only thing I've heard recently from the Doggies front is regarding some fleeting interest in bringing Ricky Henderson (Adelaide) back to Victoria.

Not sure why given he doesn't have any exposed form for this year, and who knows how he's going to come back after his tibia break - maybe the Dogs have heard he's homesick?

He's still contracted for next year anyway, so maybe a long shot.

Thanks mate, yeah you'd think last year would have been the year to go for him. Would fit in pretty nicely, wouldn't want to be giving up a huge amount though.

thanks for the information
and I thought Goddard would suit you because it could mean Lachie Henderson could go into attack
and Goddard goes down back
personally I rate him as a back, but as a forward I am not overly impressed
was going to head down to Simmonds today to watch the Metro game vs SA as well
but just too exhausted from following the U18s, so I just recorded it

Reports here earlier said he kept him to 1 goal - link?
I posted a link on the f/s I think, but Cordy wasn't always his opponent

not worth our second rounder in my opinion, basically think the next stage up he'd be a third tall defender
that will take a number of years to grow into his body..not something I think we're absolutely crying out for :)

Peter Wright is a gun. I've just decided.

I agree re: Goddard as a defender.

I liked Goddard in his last outing it his best performance so far, he looked like he had a lot of upside still to come as he's still growing into his body by the look of it.

Cripps (WA) was brilliant earlier on in the game - and then Goddard kept him quiet.

As a forward I don't like his leading patterns, he looks a lot more solid as a defender.

However, anyone in the Vic Country side would fit in with our list perfectly. Giving up a 5 goal lead against a side that hadn't won a game is pretty much our current game plan. :D:oops:

Based on the fact that a kid playing in the elite u18 competition is "only being looked at because of his surname"?

So your recruitment profile goes like this:

1. Look at surname
2. Consider on field performance/ability

Seriously?
You clearly "have no idea" is you think this is the case.
Every kid playing Div 1 champs is being looked at.

I remember watching him take a contested mark
kick it out on the full, it got kicked back to where he was
took another contested mark, shanked a kick
come back in, he read it best
mopped up and finally got a clean disposal out of any danger

I don't get why people assume he doesn't attack the ball hard for, maybe people just assume he is soft
because I hear loads of people call Brendan Goddard soft o_O

I remember that during my conversation with Macca earlier on in the year - he mentioned a new grading system they had in place when it came to identifying and ranking the prospects:

6. He doesn't believe in the classification of outside and inside midfielders, said that clubs recruit players with the intention of playing them as both (such as Libba, Wallis, Honeychurch, Stevens etc) he said that his main focus was on kicking skills (they have a scoring system in place in which players need to score more than 80 to be considered in the first round) - although he said that intent and desire on the park often makes up for skill and finesse (and he gave the example of Clay Smith). He said that the club's previous recruiting model at the Draft Camp was flawed as they were told to look out for and focus on "outside run" which he believes is only a small component of the game.

they would have been following Cordy since he was 12 and yes because of his name
