Just because it says Crows fans only, doesn't mean others can't post here. Nor does it mean they can't read the crap you write.

I personally don't see the point in a Crows Only thread. Except that it makes Mods life easier, and really is that what we want? :p
I was only kidding

It's a good idea though and props to them for thinking of it. We need to stop crying for slots already taken and create new slots as Jumboprince posted is another thread.

Lets try and own Monday night football

Good Friday eve is a good one, or Easter Monday twilight

Maybe push for Queens birthday home game alongside Pies v Demons

Have we approached the AFL jointly with another club to set up a traditional fixture/time slot every year?
The whole 'ownage' of any timeslot should be banned by the AFL. Every team should have the chance to play in every timeslot. Any claim by any club that they should be given the ANZAC game/homegame forever, should be treated with distain. What makes any club think for one second that it is more worthy of representing the ANZAC spirit, than the next club. ANZAC fixtures as with all other prominent timeslots should be shared among all clubs.

That would be ok, if the AFL was not a commercial operation. Would ANZAC day football have the status it now has if it was bulldogs v GWS in Sydney ?

It's huge because the game is huge. If they schedule Dogs v Roos for Good Friday it will fail.

It's a business

Couple of things that people need to get in to their heads -

1. The AFL don't give a toss about crowds, providing TV revenue is high.
2. The AFL don't give a toss about an equal distribution of blockbuster timeslots.

Correct.

The crowds are important though as this adds to the TV interest .... Geez there is 90,000 there - better have a look.

A near full MCG is visually attractive - no empty seats and the atmosphere almost jumps out of the box - all in all it's a winner and the AFL knows it.

What is Anzac Eve anyway and how can it be a "blockbuster" especially if it involves Melbourne, it will look really tacky if they try and use the ANZAC history a day early to get one up on the Essendon vs Collingwood game.

If we are claiming random days as every year blockbusters lets just claim a couple of Friday nights.

On what day we could do, the problem with some of the suggested time slots is they are only ever going to be Foxtel games, I am sure the attendance is a plus but I would think the biggest benefit to a club would be the ability to sell to sponsors that their brand will be showcased on free to air tv Australia wide with no alternate game on Foxtel at the same time.

Also can you imagine the AFL going to channel 7 and saying FYI we are changing Coll v Ess to North v Dogs this year!!!!

Refund required I'm thinking !

The AFL already do this, with playing anthems and last posts etc across the round. Personally, i dont like it, and this should be reserved for games played on the day only. It's like the AFL think it makes up for gifting the pies and bombers rights to the day.

I hope this talk of bringing in zones does not take off. Would be the dumbest rule ever!!!!

How about we stop changing the rules every year

Yeah your right, they do don't they, I don't really like it either. I am there are some good intentions somewhere but a lot of it seems like cashing in on the day. I feel even more uncomfortable about them doing it a day before ANZAC day.

Unrelated and I know that the game has done great things for awareness but when I was in Melbourne for a Crows game that weekend I went and it was a great experience but I felt a bit weird about there being so many Collingwood and Essendon colours at the ceremony and march hours before the game, hopefully a round of football isn't the first thing people think of when they hear the word ANZAC in a few years time.

Yes of course, but Bulldogs GwS would be a huge ANZAC game if they were the previous year's grand finalists.

I don't think any solo Good Friday game would fail because TV would be the huge winner on that day.

They can post whatever they want on their whole board and get away with it, no one can question it too much or they get in trouble like naughty boys and girls..

I think we are allowed one thread to talk about what we want, say what we want, joke about what we want without them sticking their nose in every 2 seconds.. They have the opportunity to care in the other threads we have open.. This thread had to be closed again the other day after Port posters storming in with tears in the eyes..

I don't even know why they care so much, if I happen to have a look at a few things on their board and read some of the junk they write, I *shake head*, have a laugh at their idiocy and that's about it.. I don't need to mash the shit out of my keyboard at them on their board..

They take it so personal and to heart :hearts:

Ok, so I just had a check of all the public holiday timeslots that are currently unclaimed. I reckon with our amazing administration and their incomparable negotiation skills we would have a shot at a couple of them.

New Year's Day blockbuster.
Australia Day blockbuster.
Labour Day blockbuster.
Christmas Eve blockbuster.
Proclamation Day blockbuster.

Of course we could always play in the middle of Flemington for the must see Melbourne Cup blockbuster.

Just a head's up - we're debating the use of 'crows only' concept in our 'mods only' thread (oh the ironing ;) )

Don't stress and arc up yet.. you may get better options ;)

Other boards do it, and it works more or less. I guess it just depends what the purpose is.

on AFL.com.au there's an article where the Laws Committee are thinking about making the distance for marks 20 metres...

To stop the chipping around I guess. What about the proliferation of handball? Watching the Geelong/Hawks game the other day - you can see why everyone seems to be moving toward that style of play. (Just some are better at doing it than others!).
