Its trying to recover corkies etc on the plane trip home without a medical room. Its widely recognised that FREO and WCE players have a shorter playing career than the less traveling teams. Of course it has an effect on a teams output.

Over careers I agree.
But between rounds 4 and 5, and when the opponent also dealt with tough conditions 6 days prior, don't agree.

Especially when our poor play was Q2 (and missed chances Q1) and we played a decent second half. Why didn't the heat affect us in the 2nd half more?

Yeah not really buying that - Swans had to play in pretty tough conditions last Sunday as well, same 6 day break. Sure no travel, but as RTB said in the press conference, the team pulled up fit, a fit 22 was picked, and a fit 22 started. Plus we had Fyfe and Mayne as in's, who hadn't played last week.

Won the second half as well, so we didn't run out of legs, we were outplayed in the second quarter, and failed to capitalise on our chances in the first. Which wouldn't be affected by the heat.

Essendon are just not as good as everyone seems to think they are.

I wouldn't call playing in the rain is tough conditions. It makes kicking, marking etc etc tougher but no way is it tougher on fitness on the body.

If I work in 40+ temps my body takes longer to recover than working in 20 degrees and rain.

i dunno about that ... it makes everything heavier and harder to push through and thus, more taxing on the body ... so from a fitness perspective, it is definitely tougher on the body

however, you are right in that it is not as taxing than in 40+ temps

Well the rain against GC was used by some to excuse our performance against the Hawks. So we've had both, and both times it has been used by many as an excuse. RTB hasn't, and I prefer to agree with him on that. He said that the team was fit and ready to play, which means they were. No excuse.

Regardless of whether heat or rain is worse, in both cases it was the first half that killed us, and we improved as the games went on (how does coming off heat and 6-days explain that?)

The opposition had the game won already.

The hawks game we had no chance with fyfe and Barlow out IMO.

The interstate teams requested and finally were granted a guarantee that teams would have at least a six day break (5 days breaks used to happen) between games. I really don't see anything to complain about whatever the conditions are now. Teams will always look like they have lead in their boots on occasions, I think this is usually more likely to have something to do with training loads.

Have you played much footy ?
Serious question, if so were you playing in the mould of Daniel wells where your definition of contest was an internal one of whether to kick or handball the receive you just got ...
Wet weather footy is so damn taxing on the body, hits from so many odd angles, much more physical contact and the leg weariness is unparalleled .
Playing in heat is a matter of correct rehydration, can't turn around corks and lactic legs that quickly

Yep,played footy into my late teens, loved playing in the wet too.

I believe that the reason the hawks look so much fitter and better on the spread, nothing suss, is because their running is rewarded.

If we had someone to clunk marks inside of 55m the whole team get a 30 second break.

Even though buddy missed lots of shots with hawthorn he have them lots of breaks.

Mostly they reward themselves by hitting their forwards on the chest. Pav would have a field day in that team.

Anybody see the review in the Melbourne game. WTF
Was absolutely staggering.. why have a review process if the bloke reviewing doesn't have eyes? Cant understand how people who don't have simple cognitive abilities get a gig in those positions.. happens in cricket as well

Wasn't even a close call.
