Brett Goodes is an absolute rubbish pick. 31 years old next year and was completely useless at AFL Level this year. If we were going to pick a mature recruit, we should've picked one that at least had the potential to be useful for us in the AFL, like maybe a Petrenko.

No problems with the other picks.

Roarke Smith looks pretty smooth moving. Seems we have identified this as a massive area of need. List is much more balanced with inside/outside types now.

For those of you criticising the club for selecting Goodes, We've just lost Cooney, Higgins, Tutt and Griffen from our midfield rotation, and replaced them with a bunch of 70kg kids. Get some perspective. Who replaces Libba or Wally or Bont if they go down with injury??

Goodes has been played at half back at AFL level - he has also averaged - last time i looked - close to 4 clangers a game.
So firstly to replace the guys you mention he would have to be played midfield so great you acknowledge that.
Secondly he would want to have learnt how to kick under pressure if he is going to be in the midfield.

Spot on. He's a wrecking ball in the middle, he's a human turnstile on the half back flank. Play him where he plays best.

This is my definition of a rookie list but it appears long out of date if recent history shows:
- A list of young, untried-at-the-level, players who have the potential to improve and force their way onto the senior list.
I also favour a fairly rapid turnover of rookie listed players to give opportunities to a maximum number of young potential talent.
Like I said, my definition is out of date.

With that clanger count Goodes is perfect back up for M Boyd. Understand the mature body argument, just don't get, how on one hand we prioritise ball use and then pick a known clanger king in the rookie draft.

We have to start backing in Fletch, Talia, Campbell, Redpath etc. Anyway, my argument isn't about the talls vs smalls rubbish some people are getting caught up in. We needed a mature backup and we got one. Job done, play on.

I'm happy we have decided to back these guys, especially the first two. We were perplexed that it didn't happen in 2014 and spent most of the season questioning the sanity of MC or second-guessing their reasons for not picking these blokes. We will all be able to see for ourselves whether they can cut the mustard at AFL level in 2015.

Re the smalls vs talls debate: one man's rubbish is another man's riches. Each to his own.

Since when does this mean anything? Have you seen the list of Norm Goss medalists? I see 2-3 guys who made it as C-B Grade AFL Players, the rest are total rubbish.

With rough, moz and talia in the seniors and Roberts hamling and Cordy in the reserves I'm fine with our backline. Especially with wood and now kelly who's a Ben Stratton type.

Key forwards though? I'd say we have Boyd, stringer and redpath and then you're relying on crameri to play a different role before Campbell and Cordy get games there. It's like they're both a combo of ruck back up and key forward back up

He's better by hand in congestion than free on the back flank. He's great clearance back up for wallis, Boyd and Libba if needed. Watch yourself the vfl granny he owns the stoppages, always gets his hands free for a clear touch. I know you WANT to be positive after this shakey off season so go watch it, it's bloody impressive. If we were going for back up he's our best option imo

Agree entirely. Ask yourself, will Pearce ever be more than a fringe player?

I do like how he looks but gee it'll take a lot of luck now that he's competing with years draftees

Pearce is young & could potentially fill a need for us provided he gets fit.

In the midfield, Goodes is behind Liberatore, Bontempelli, Macrae, Boyd, Wallis, Stevens, Picken, Hrovat, Smith, and possibly Honeychurch, Hunter, Prudden & Jong. Do we really need a 10th string midfielder & if so, does it need to be a 31 years old who has no chance of making it to our next Premiership Window?

Just a quick question, apologies if its been covered elsewhere, but are rookie upgrades (eg Jong & Redpath) guaranteed 2 year contracts like regular draftees to the main list?
I ask because if they are, then were investing another 2 years into Jack might explain the lack of another KPF this year.
