2014 Rookie Draft Thread

Roarke Smith looks pretty smooth moving. Seems we have identified this as a massive area of need. List is much more balanced with inside/outside types now.

For those of you criticising the club for selecting Goodes, We've just lost Cooney, Higgins, Tutt and Griffen from our midfield rotation, and replaced them with a bunch of 70kg kids. Get some perspective. Who replaces Libba or Wally or Bont if they go down with injury??

For what it's worth, the club needs to play him in the guts when he plays AFL. No more HBF rubbish. Thats not where he plays football. The man runs a 16 beep test. Use him in the bloody guts. Bev is a smart man, I think he'll recognise this.

I was thinking he'd replace M Boyd, C Smith or Wallis if 2 of them aren't available, but yes must keep him away from the backline, keep him in midfield winning clearances and his own ball. TBH i'd like to see how he compares to Boyd in midfield, if Boyd declines then perhaps Goodes could be the better head in there.

The club must be horrified with Howard/Fuller.

But the obvious flip side to taht is, who replaces T Boyd, Roughy if they go down with injury? I reckon we could get by with one, two or even three inside mid injuries, but if we lose one big guy we are in real trouble

We have to start backing in Fletch, Talia, Campbell, Redpath etc. Anyway, my argument isn't about the talls vs smalls rubbish some people are getting caught up in. We needed a mature backup and we got one. Job done, play on.

Campbell, Redpath, Cordy or the old Stringer and Crameri combo.

Roberts and Talia need to step up and take the load off Roughead.

Just watching goodes now. His strengths are contested footy and elite endurance yet we never played him as an inside mid at top level. Is unbelievable in this gf. As long as we play him there (and he's just a back up) I'm stoked

Smith looks great, very happy with him. Kellys highlights also look alright, see thats a mature ager I can get behind. Offers a big body and a bit of experience but still with upside and not 31 years old.
