Jesus, there's a lot of pressure on our current talls now. Surely the rookie draft was the place to take a punt on a couple to add some depth? I don't get it.

well surprises again and only 1 tall. Interesting only McLaren was selected of the young talls I liked. Need more info on Kelly and Smith, I have no idea about them.

Kelly is a former Hawthorn rookie medium sized defender. Never played a game for them but won a premiership with Box Hill in 2013.
Smith is a winger from Calder Cannons who has a good defensive mindset and won their coaches award which I would assume is for most improved or something.

Hawks board says this year they have been trialling Kelly as a big midfielder. Obviously our coach would have a very good idea of his capabilities.

Two words about our recruiting this year

UNDER WHELMING !!

I seriously cannot believe we retained Goodes as a rookie.
Beveridge has put his neck on the line on Kelly also.
The guy has had 3 years in the system exactly like Hambling - without a game - but we persist with this thought trash will become treasure.

Give young kid 3 years to develop like those blokes and it would be fair to say alot of them would be no worse off in three years !!!!
But there is a fair chance one may develop into a much better player.

Hold onto your hats people 2015 going to be a very very long year !

I'm guessing Bevo knows Kelly than most on here. Obviously sees something in the boy.

Nice package. Looks a good kick. If he can get enough of the ball AND hold his opponents he will be a good pickup.

Payne went to St. Kilda right before we took Pearce. Never know if we would have taken him.

Help the kids at Footscray. As harsh as it may be, any young kid playing regular AFL footy (and thus not spending time with Goodes at VFL level) is more successful then him, as simple as that.

I know he isn't to standard, but with the number of senior players leaving, keeping a steady (and from reports) smart guy around the club to help the younger guys coming through isn't bad. He'll be at every training, meeting and gym session. A club can be a complicated mix of personalities and if Goodes can help the club run and grow, then I see it as a good pick. Could we have gotten a young KP / Ruck hopeful? Sure, but the club obviously thought that Goodes was of more value to the club. All we can do is support them and see if it pays off.

If Bevo has taken an interest it would be as a run with midfielder?

I've never seen Pearce do anything at any level that warrants playing in the AFL. He reminds me of Sam Power, he would blend in to an under 14's game.

Agree - I actually think Pearce looks a little slow for his height at AFL level, and given we took a 191cm flanker in the rookie draft as well as traded fro Darley & Biggs in the past 2 years I'm not sure where Pearce fits in.

Crows took Ramsay who some watchers linked us to
Beasley isn't KPD height but Brissie took him
The Jets boy Payne went to the Saints
Hammelmann ended up at Brissie after all

Excuse me while i yawn though. Fine with Kelly, fine with 'Mickey', but FFS Pearce and Goodes. Goodes is just a coaching position paid via the the rookie list.

if we were we are stupid taking Roarke in first round if thats the case.
Not like he was not going to be there in third.

I know Goodes wont be a factor when we're next contending, but I have heard that he's a really respected guy at the club and a great mentor for the younger boys.
