Hey guys, another one who is representing you guys in our mock draft. Just went Curnow at 6 (8 with academy picks), with Oliver and Francis already off the table, just went best available and figure he could add something to your forward line pretty quickly. Any particular direction I should be going from here? A lot of people liking Hibberd at 16, I like him too but doubt he will last.

Unless Hibberd is there, just best available I think, preferably inside mid, small defender, or genuine gut running wingman (probably not we are targeting but I would love to have one in the squad besides Shaw). I've seen the likes of Tucker, Ah Chee, Balic, Mathison, etc. fall anywhere between top 10 and early second round in various mock drafts and I wouldn't mind any of them at 16 or whatever our pick ends up being if they are still there.

Having a look at this our list got down to 38 last year . we are allowed to have 9 rookies last year which we used 8 i think , only thing i can think of the rules may if changed this year.

i sometimes forget how many concessions GWS still have haha.
Yeah it was interesting when the subject was brought up with Scott Clayton during trade week I think it was and his words were that the GWS and Suns start up concessions were "totally different". Not similar or a little different, he specifically said "totally different". I took that to mean that to the casual observer they appeared similar but to an expert on the matter who had to work within the confines of those concessional boundaries, yes they were very, very different in favour of GWS.

And the kids come out of nowhere
No elite training.. Nothing.
Has so much upside more so then other players who have had all the coaches and training etc.

He looks like he has dropped 8-10kg in the last 6 months judging by that ghastly photo of him compared to the video interview of him.

Loved his interview, looks to have that quiet confidence and swagger like Touk... those are the sort of characters and leaders you need to build a successful club.

Be tough decision if both Francis and Oliver are available at 6

Loved the anger in him..
Bit of push n shove at the start of the vid and
After he runs into the fence and just the way he bursts in to grab the loose ball wow.
We need some anger in us after Brown left.

Like how he highlights his carrying a lil extra weight and wants to work on his fitness and build up in size..

I think I have a man crush.

I don't think non-academy clubs will bid early on academy players. They would have to actually be willing to give up that selection if the team whose academy it is doesn't match the bid. So big risk to try to make them pay overs if it means you could end up with a player that isn't as good as others you could have chosen at the same pick.

But Mills and Hopper would go top 3 in normal circumstances

In a lot of cases it won't be much of a risk. Let's say Carlton bid for Callum Mills at pick one. Sydney has to match the pick because if they don't they get pick 33 and a bunch of other later second, third and fourth round picks. They also get a 25% discount so they are not in effect bidding Pick one points. They are essentially deciding on getting Callum Mills, the best midfielder in the draft or 5 or 6 late picks, 4 or 5 of which will probably never play more than 10 games.
If the inexplicable happens and they don't bid for Mills then Carlton end up with Mills who could well end up being better than Weitering anyway.
It's a no brainer and I hope it happens.
There are similar examples for GWS and Brisbane - they have all declared there hands by drafting all their good picks away (Brisbane pick's 2 the exception) to get meaningless picks down the order.
GWS and Brisbane could get smashed if Carlton or Melb decide to bid on all their top 15 rated academy kids at pick 1 and 3..
