so apparently in the 1st month of the season we'll be playing Fremantle then in no particular order, Adelaide, Sydney and Hawthorn... WTF!

Going to ask, I hope the Hawks get a similar draw as they've just gone back to back.

How is it any different to playing Geelong, Fremantle, Hawthorn and Sydney in as many weeks last year? We're good enough to beat anyone anywhere, so who cares.

ffs we played a tough clash in Perth against Freo in Rd 23, then smashed an in form Tigers outfit in our first final the following week, then we flew to Perth again to come from 30 points down after half time to beat Freo, and finally took Hawthorn right to the brink falling just short.

Excellent start - 2 huge home crowds against Sydney and the Hawks, weather is still good or great, and we test out how close we really are. If w are 2-2 or 3-1 after those 4 games then we will get plenty of easier ones.

Beat the good teams early. Beat the bottom teams while we are in our down period mid year, then turn it on around September.

This apparent equalisation measure of giving the better teams a tougher draw is such nonsense. That's what the salary cap and draft is for.

The sooner we get on a 3-4 year home and away rotation a la the NFL, the better.

In 2004 we were 5-3 and then won the flag, last year Sydney were 1-3 after 4 rounds and finished the minor round on top. Even with their 0-3 start the cows should have made the finals, some of their losses weren't just bad, they were totally unexpected.
Sure, a 4-0 stat too the season is great but if the performance is at least satisfactory and if it gets some of the harder games out of the way then all the better.

I don't see it as an equalisation measure, more as a way to make sure that some teams do not have undeservedly soft draws. Under the old optional system the cows once played a maximum of teams from the lower reaches of the ladder some years, even after they finished third the year before. And while our draw wasn't all that easy just after a bad year in 2012, the Roos used to have no favours at all. If anything this new system gives the higher up teams an advantage by giving them tougher games to get their teeth into. I recall the outcry from a lot of supporters the year before the Giants were in the AFL as our last NAB challenge match was against them. Many people felt giving us a non-game against the new kids on the block was tantamount to reducing our pre-season.

IMO how we go will in part depend on if we have Ryder available. If we do I'm penciling in our first four as all wins. If not that's a bunch of hard games first up.

I just got the message too ... Anzac Saturday night ... wowee indeed!

Wow it doesn't get much bigger than that, apart from when we win the 2015 GF. Super excited, as one great man said "you get what you deserve".

I guess its time to start camping out to get a seat.

The only thing that could make a AO night game vs Hawthorn better would be if we got to play it in the PB's

I know you're a new poster and all, but can we go at least one thread with out the PB's being mentioned.

5 years ago we played the Saints @ AAMI infront of a half a dozen seagulls and a scoreboard attendant.

Fast forward to 2015 and we are playing the reigning premier @ AO infront of a potential 52k crowd...

What a cracking game this shapes to be! Cant wait!

Was a good win that night though, defeating the undefeated Saints :thumbsu:
