The players are due to vote soon and may need some pointers from the supporters' base. Who do you nominate to comprise the Leadership Group for Season 2015 and who should be Captain and Vice Captain?

2014 (Actual)
Pavlich (C)
Sandilands (VC)
Mundy
McPharlin
de Boer
Spurr

2015 (proposed)
Pavlich (C)
Fyfe (VC)
Sandilands
Walters
Ballantyne
Barlow

Good idea for a thread.

Not fussed how it pans out though - I have faith in everyone on our list to uphold the standards set out. The no dickhead policy of late is paying dividends

I don’t think there needs to be an overhaul like RTB hinted at. With the democratic way the leadership are chosen, I’m not sure how he’d go about it anyway.

Our Culture and Leadership at the club seems to be as strong as ever, but winning sometimes does create that illusion. With our ageing leadership group maybe it’s time for the older more experienced players to pull out of contention and pass the baton to the next young and up and coming crop, but I don’t think so. We go into this season with our window largely open and I don't think radical change is needed. I feel our older leaders (if fit) are still the best players on match day and should be setting the example on the ground.

I’m predicting Fyfe to be added to the leadership group in place of De Boer, for obvious reasons. Spurr is the only other player I have question mark over, but it’s only through ignorance on my part. But for now I’m tipping him to stay, If he got selected over Barlow and Ballantyne and these types last year, then why not this time.

My prediction for this year is for Pavlich to remain, as captain and it’ll probably be his last year. Fyfe will be groomed this year and take the reins next season, which will be a start of a new and exciting era for us.

I'd love Barlow entering the leadership group too. I'm a little surprised he isn't already. Maybe because he's a bit too much of a larrakin... Then again Tex Walker is the new captain of Adelaide.

For me Pav as Captain is set in stone.

VC more difficult. Sandi and McPharlin are fine for me based on experience. Wouldn't mind a young(er) potential successor of captaincy getting it as well. Probably the latter being the more reasonable choice for our future. Really think of Fyfe first, but history has proven that those decisions are sometimes surprising (most recently obviously T. Walker, Freo actually had the most obvious choice often, but still who knows).

Rest of leadership group is voted anyway so probably more a populary contest. From an outsiders view all player mentioned here are somehow deserving but I think a lot is based on what is talked and done behind closed doors like who is most inspiring, offers most support or advice to other players. Hard to judge as fan for me. Perhaps a bit easier for regular training watchers, but probably still difficult...

Pav (C) - LOCK
Fyfe (VC)
Sandilands
Mundy
Spurr/DeBoer - Can't decide between these 2.

I predict (based on no facts, just a vibe i had yesterday while drinking):

Pav will stand down by his choice on the basis that he wants to see good continuity going into next year with his and elvis' retirement. This allows him to mentor Fyfe the new captain during the year, and since he is only "expected to play 14-16 games in 2015" (before 3 finals).

Barlow vc
Mayne
Pav
Sandi

Pav (C)
Sandilands (VC)
Fyfe
Barlow
MJ

Pav as captain is obvious.

Sandi was VC last year, and he have showed leadership on field, worked hard and had a good year (no 2 for Doig). I think he earned himself another year in this role.

Fyfe. Our best player last year. Now, I don't believe the best player is always the best leader and vise versa (think Mark Taylor). However, Fyfe can be so dominant that his performance is capable of inspiring the team to pull themselves out of a slump, so he gets the tick. Why not VC is because while good most of the time, he did lose his cool on occasions when harassed by a tagger. It's never a good idea for a captain loses his cool in a match. But it's something he can work on, and there is no denying he is going to be the captain sometime in the future.

Barlow, consistent player. Always trying, always playing hard. Broken thumb or not. And, his game against Geelong, playing for the jumper? that seals it for me. Leadership stuff.

The last spot is a toss up between Sonson, MJ or Mcpharlin for me. Sonson unlucky as I thought we need a leader in the backline. I am thinking of someone who can organize the backline which both MJ and Elvis can both so. MJ gets the gig since I suspect Elvis will be managed and won't play every game this season.

Just No.
You went to a lot of bother to have a dig at Col when you could have come straight out and said it at the top.

Reckon Pav, Macpharlin and Sandi will step down and focus on playing their 14-16 games. Leadership guidance but not formal leadership group.

For me :

Fyfe (C)
Mundy (VC)
Johnson (Leadership Group - backs)
Barlow (Leadership Group - Mids)
Ballantyne (leadership Group - Fwds)
