Obviously a fair bit of water to go under the bridge before the rookie draft, but I heard David Noble say on 5aa last night that the club wouldn't be against rookie listing Matty Wright, which got me thinking about what our needs are.

I see our KPF stocks as being our biggest weakness, and unless we feel Burton is not a big risk given his leg, we probably won't get anyone at 9 or 13 that can make an impact in the next few years.

So my thoughts would be to grab a couple of tall fwds, perhaps someone who is performing at vfl/sanfl/wfl level, and someone to develop.

I also don't think rookie listing Wright achieves a lot, however I do hope he gets a go at another club.

Anyway, I thought it would be a good issue to discuss ;)

Draft details:

I think preferably we need 2 talls in rookie draft. One that can play up forward and one that can play in defense or preferably at both ends.

I'm hoping 1 or 2 of the following are available (and we select them):

Sam Skinner
Michael Hartley
Dylan Smith
Jesse Glass-McClasker
Wylie Buzza
Levicki

Best available. Anyone with something exceptional which gives them a chance to succeed - even if they had other flaws which led to them not being picked in the ND.

Even if best available are midfielders?

Agree, go tall in rookie draft.

37. Tim Sullivan – Glenelg (Ruckman 200cm/91kgs)
A genuine Ruckman/Forward who came to recruiters’ attention years ago. Has had a knee reconstruction but he could be a handy player in years to come. Definitely needs time. A project player who could be the biggest hidden gem in the draft.

Would be very keen to get him in. Was very highly rated, and would have been in the main draft if not for injury. Is on my list.

As for Wright - rookie listing him would be a stupid, stupid move. What purpose does it hold? We know what he offers, he isn't getting any better. Rookie list spots should be for guys who show something and might be able to be something special - just like CC. We don't need Wright clogging a spot for no reason. We have enough depth and simply don't need him.

Sullivan I would grab.

Also look at;
Matt Allen - Key/mobile forward. Strong hands. Has grown this year and is now 193.5 cm. Could end up a T Lynch (Ade) style of player
Davin Ferreira - NT small forward (Boom/Bust type)
Hugh Haysmann - Gut running mid - a bit like Riley Knight
Oleg Markov - Mid sized forward. Has something.
Josh Schoenfeld - Outside mid Running machine
Whoever else Ogilvie wants!!

Allen
Markov
Agius

Was there not a guy at Coburg with Hartley who we were also looking at? KPD from memory?

wouldn't mind the club having a shot at Matt Allen for a rookie spot. I've seen the kid play quite a bit throughout the year. Just seems to have really good presence on the field (admittedly because he monsters the other kids his age), makes his disposals count, big accurate leg and quick off the mark for a big lad.
Thats if he makes it to the rookie draft, may get selected in the main draft.

Skippos has him as a worthy candidate for a tall mid role... Gotta be worth a look

I've watched him a lot. He can get away with monitoring kids due to his size, but I think he has more than that. I've seen him run through the midfield and be good, but he is definitely best up forward.
I think he is a Pavlich type. Key forward who could pinch hit in the middle. Could also be that tall hard running half forward.

His running and kicking skills surprise a lot - he did very well at both at the combine. He can play.

Interestingly across most of the year I thought Skippos wasn't a fan.

He definitely divides recruiters. Some see huge potential, some have exactly ZERO interest. I think it depends a bit on where they saw him play.

In the Saints V PAC intercol match (which included Francis), Allen was the most impressive of the lot. While the Saints team was overwhelmed, Allen did his best to pull his team up. He kicked 3 goal 6 after playing a lot through the middle. If it was the other way around and he kicked 6 goal 3, there might be a few more keen on him.

TBH he may have cooled on the idea, but I definitely recall him mentioning Allen as a possible tall mid in time. I'm not sure he rates him as a forward.

Could be wrong?
