I'm currently rolling with a 3/1/4, but will probably downgrade a forward premo later and upgrade to a premo defender leaving a 4/1/2 defensive line and a 3/0/5 forward line.
So much this. I made the change and save for picking the right back premos it looks sooooo much better.

I just hope these forward rookies get regular games.

What are people's thoughts on Jed Adcock this year? 418k was down on average last year playing mostly defence, but looks like pushing up to the wing again this year, if Brissy's NAB games are any indication.

Seems like good value priced at 78ppg and still only 29 years old. His disposal numbers were only down a little last season in comparison to the previous 3 years where he averaged 90+ wouldn't take much of an improvement to get back to a 90+ average, especially in a stronger Brissy team.

(Unless he's going to be the team's designated tagger, then disregard this post altogether)
damn you, you got him in my head now
should get back to ~90

Can i suggest grabbing an 8th defender?

Just my opinion based on this years SC Player Structures.

DEF - (3/2/3)
Premo upwards of $480k - Simpson, Burgoyne, Shaw
Middle $250-$480k - KK, Ibbotson
Rookie $100-$250k - Brown, Goddard, Saad

MID - (3/2//0/6) Harder to categorise as includes players I think will be elite by years end, if aren't already. I have 4 categories.
Premo upwards of $600k - Ablett, Pendlebury, Dangerfield
About to be elite @ $500-$600k - Prestia, Treloar (May still get Crouch for one and bank extra cash).
Middle $250k-$500k - None
Rookie $100-$250k - Cockatoo, Anderson, Vandenberg, Ellis-Yolman, Lambert, Steele

RUCK - (2/1 DPP Cover)
Premo $470k-$650k - Maric, NicNat (Fallen premo) - Realistically premo ruckmen are $520k+ but have included NN as one.
Rookie $100-$200k) - T.Read (DPP)

FWD - (3/0/5)
Premo $450k-$600k - Gray, Martin, Swan (Fallen Premo) - Could certainly count Swan as mid-priced if you want
Middle $250k-$450k - None
Rookie $100k-$250k - Salem, Clark, Hogan, Lonie, Krakouer

There it is haha...

Dangers not 600k as yet

Without GAJ I'm now running a 4-1-3. With GAJ it will likely be 3-1-4 however

on Birchall
according to Hawks website he'll become available in the next week (thus making him available for round 1)

if he is picked round 1, will you take him knowing he's had an interrupted preseason?
I'm thinking he'll be a better upgrade target after his bye in round 11

hmmm

I need a defender under 490k(If Hibberd gets cleared i will make an extra $500 for him) as my D3, i was thinking Hurn or Jaensch but i'd like your opinions
Get on Jaench.

Hawks move the ball too damn quickly for any effective defensive tag.

Think its hard picking Hawthorn players as they alternate so much through the midfield and therefore spread points fairly equally week in week out.... (100 points across 10 players ) I suspect Clarkson will only have picked Anderson at this Stage (Cash Cow)....
Can anyone tell me how many times a Hawthorn player scored 140 plus in the last 2 yrs
Having said that I find Mitchell way unders... Think he will average 105-110 as long as body holds up !

Haha cheers for that mate, was interested to see what ya thought regarding the price of Premo based defenders this year.....like the way ya thinking with your structures too, good even spread across all areas

Yeah your right regarding him being available from next week.....I remember reading, think it was on the "injury" thread about the Hawks playing an intra-club scratchy as the last of their pre season games before rnd 1 and Birchall would play that.....so be good to see how he is moving around then, give us more of a look into whether or not he's a starter or an upgrade target.

Plenty of players have topped 140 in the last 2 years.

Rioli
Birchall
Roughead
Gunston
Lewis
Gibson
Breust

The problem is none can do it consistently. For such a dominant team only 1 player managed to average over the ton last year.

Would want to wait and see on Birchall still got an injury cloud over him, so even if he does start RD1 he may not be 100%.

Hibberd would be best, Jaensch as well.

If you happy to go a little lower, Taylor, Newnes, Adcock and Harbrow present some value.

Picking the right Hawks defender is going to be hard this year, I've interchanged the same D2 possie from Gibson, Burgoyne and Birchall.

I've no idea which one I'm gonna go with :(

Scenario - Round 1 teams come out and the only rookie priced defender named is Nathan Brown. What do you do? How do you structure your backline? Do you pick guys like Saad, Goddard, Hamling and Edwards praying they get named sooner rather than later?

The closer we're coming to round 1 the more it seems this'll become a realistic situation.

I will pay close attention to the 3 emergencies named for each team and make a call from there.

He hasn't averaged over 50SC in the past 3 seasons with a highest score in those 3 years of 70SC.

If he averages 50, his price will eventually rise by about $115k, although the last 15k will take many rounds to materialise. More likely, you will have to waste a trade moving him sideways to another cheap DEF without making as much profit from the trade as you had hoped.

OK scoring in NAB will not tempt me to start N.Brown this year.
Yah but if we get no rookies, go avoid mid prices or a defence of 6 premos, I will take brown at D6

I don't see the 'no rookies' scenario.

Dalgleish, Saad, Hamling all looking good for R1 selection. Edwards perhaps also. I'd take any of those names over Brown any day.
