I still think it'll only be:

3 drafted, 1 traded and 1 upgraded at this stage.

of course, as Defacto says, that is without us trading out anybody. Even if this was the case, it would make sense to move up the draft order or bring in another quality young player via trade.
Who would be a serious candidate to be traded this year? I suspect we will try and get that extra first round pick again - we're fast tracking this rebuild and I don't think we'll let it slow down this off season. I think next year will be the time to snare an elite FA.

To get a first round pick you have to give up some quality. Rhys would be very handy for us right now but the call was obviously made that Goddard/Laverde/whoever was the slider is going to be of more value going forward. We essentially just need to consider who has some value but not as much value to us as an extra first round pick, whether that be because of other options in that position, age profile or certain attributes like kicking/size/pace. Here are some guys who would have some trade value (excluding untouchables like Billings and co)

Geary - probably worth a pick in the 30s, doubt he will be traded though due to leadership qualities
Gilbert - value depends on how the rest of the year goes. Could hold similar value to Geary and is quite easily replaced
Hickey - has obvious talent but seems to be behind Longer. Not sure he'd be too happy spending half his time at Sandy and half his time at FF. Worth a pick in the early 20s
Longer - steadily improving and should be a quality ruck in a couple of years. Worth a pick in the teens
Ray - playing solid footy but very much replaceable, probably worth a third round pick upgrade
Ross - improving and showing good signs but very similar to Dunstan. If he had a good second half of the year he could be worth a pick in the 20s
Templeton - made an impression last year but hasn't been able to improve on that. Has skill but struggles to accumulate and we have others in his mould. Could be worth a pick in the 30s
White - has some amazing attributes but can't put it together and has gone backwards this year. Late pick upgrade at best
Wright - i love his run and endeavour but his skills are shocking and doesn't get a heap of the ball. Worth a pick in the 30s

I don't think Curren, Lee, Markworth, Minchington, Murdoch, Pierce, Saunders, Shenton, Simpkin or Siposs have any trade value and it would be futile suggesting that we bundle any of them up to try and get a decent pick in return (which I know will make up the majority of suggested trades on here). Some of them will be delisted, some retained for depth and others given time to develop. I can't see rival clubs having any interest at all though.

there will be more of him over the years. just bad timing, i think our approach
has been to build a solid foundation of contested ball winning types and then add the outside speed/flash after that
Also, ensuring we take any super highly rated KPP's at best available too, ie: McCartin over Petracca & Brayshaw, and adding Goddard as a huge slider

I'm of the opinion we'll do the same again this draft with the first 2 earlier picks, then pick the best available outside type in our clubs opinion with the later pick/s

There's absolutely no way I'd delist Markworth for the purpose of moving him to to rookie list & risk another club taking him.

Surely if we're striving for players to delist a limited player like Curren would be in the gun before Marky.

Pretty similar to the position we were in. 2 years ago. Butchered a few drafts and tried to fast track the list by bringing in more mature players like Lee, Saad and Milera.
Yep, very similar... which tells me we Saints, of all people, should avoid being too cocky about the Blues current plight.

... okay, well, maybe a LITTLE cocky...

could've said the same about Lynch...they are worth something as part of the right package
Lynch was a first round pick who performed very well at VFL level and couldn't get a go in a strong team under the worst developer of youth in the league. Always looked smart, skilled and composed when he had his brief appearances at AFL level. We received a second round pick for him which was fair under the circumstances. The guys in our reserves aren't trying to break into a grand final side - you can bet Lynch would have played about 40 games in his first three years if he were drafted to us in 2013 instead of his total of 6 in three years after being drafted in '08.

NO Saints
Speaking of Carlton, would anyone be interested in Yarran. Tears us a new one every time he plays us, and would be the outside speed we are looking for.

Of course the idiots at Carlton would probably want our first pick, Billings and Goddard for him (after all Mr Delusional, I still think I am at GWS, SoS, is the List Manager )

He is only 25 and if we can do a decent deal with Carlton I think he would be a good fit.

Carlton should hold onto him for another year & let him go as an RFA. I reckon their compo would be worth more than what he's worth if traded this year. And if Carlton are shite next year too, the AFL will ensure they get a decent compo pick (similar to what they did for Melbourne with Frawley, who should have only been 2nd round compo when you look at what his contract length & $$$$ were)

But it's Carlton, so for all I care, I hope he leaves for a bag of Doritos & a Dare Iced Coffee

I would if he wouldn't cost us a top 20 pick, which is what we'd have to give up. He'd provide some good outside run for us at but just wouldn't be worth it.

How the **** do they rate the recruitment of forever-injured Dale Thomas as a 'Tick'.... o_O:confused:

Written by Jay Clark what do you expect clueless .

Just wish continued pain for Carlton , which will happen , they have one of the largest groups over 25 years
On their list means you are contending .... If they don't move players on they are destined for years at the
bottom .
May it continue .
SOS does not have the cards like he had at GWS.

Going to have to disagree with you slightly on this one.

When it comes to trading for any Carlton player I will keep the Doritos and Iced Coffee every single time.

Especially a Dare, they are ours!
