Guys who do you think has the best young list out of us. Collingwood or Melbourne.. Im looking at players born 92+ here. I'll put up some names for comparison in a sec.
So collingwood has:
Fasolo, Grundy, Elliot, Kennedy, Langdon, Sharenberg, Adams, Witts, Marsh, Freeman, Crisp, Williams, Broomhead, Moore, Ramsay, Karnesis, DeGoey, Maynard, Seedsman, Oxley, Gault, Frost

Melbourne
Hogan, Salem, Toumpas, Viney, Tyson, Stretch, Kent, Frost. Newton. Michie. McDonald. Hunt. Petraca. Neil bullen.

Saints.
Sipposs, Temps, Ross, Dunstan, Acres, Markworth, Billings, Newnes, Longer. White Curren, Bruce, Membrey, Webster. Murdoch. McCartin. Goddard.Wright Saunder. McKenzie. Lonie. Minchington. Pierce. Weller. Sinclair.

I've noticed Templeton is a favorite of yours Mr Barrels. I had a little bit to do with him towards end of last season. He's a really grounded kid, and it was a huge kick in the guts when he missed out and a large number of his Rebels and school teammates got drafted.
He had a massive pre season, came back looking like a body builder! He's had a solid season, will surely be on a Rookie List at worst come end of year.
Stop stealing my picks, Barrels :p. But seriously if we take our third pick to the draft, I'd use it on Tom Templeton, he's worth a crack with our lack of pace.
Genuinely don't know why he was passed on.
player comparison or skill set comparison that us who don't know him can go off?
Poor man's Dangerfield? At least in terms of his ability to burst from packs and very strong body.

Similar type - though clearly not as good - to Nathan Freeman.

In comparison to me it looks like Collingwood have a better selection of young midfielders coming through by a bit then melbourne then us.. But where we differ is weve invested heavily in KPP'S compared to the others by a long way.. Hickey was born in 93 too.
Melbourne seem to be lacking behind in that. But young midfield depth including Petracca looks ahead of us IMO.

Encouraging news.

Does anyone have a profile on Rice. I dont know anything about him
Well built (184/81) small/medium defender with scope for on-ball improvement. Pace is good without being elite, but kicking skills are excellent.

Think Geary with less manic bravery but much better skills.

We've got about six like that, but for a third rounder, it would be a good get.

For that very reason, I think he'll pick the Blues, and I won't mind to much if he does.

Melbourne have some good young midfielders, love how Viney plays, Petracca etc
Don't really know to many of the young Collingwood players, Seedsman goes pretty good as do Elliott, De Goey, Adams and Grundy. Marley Williams is a mammoth flog don't rate him a single bit.

Poor mans dangerfield would still be a bloody good player

I dont think we will get a priority pick... but we got one in josh bruce. :)

My concern is that our four wins this year were built on riewoldt dempster joey fisher(when he played). How do we replace these guys... sure paddy for nick. I dont think it would wreck our culture to ensure we get pick 4 at minimum if we rate parish and co so highly.

Rahul great argument about PP but also look at the flipside.... melbourne carlton and us didnt win a flag
You're spot on in all those calls Cannavaro. I think some sort of advantage is a prerequisite for success, but it doesn't exactly guarantee it. Might change in the future as advantages are wiped out, but most of the teams we will compete with have some sort of leg up (GWS, Collingwood, Bulldogs, Suns, Demons), though I suppose if all the teams in the competition are restricted from an advantage, victory without it might become the norm.

Isaac Smith immediately comes to mind, but Smith I rate as the best winger in the competition (alongside S Hill), so think of a lower level version of Smith. Obviously like all comparisons, there will be trait differences along with the similarities.

hmm just on the best wingman of the comp, i would put gaff very very close to no.1. he's so dam underrated

Haven't got a definite answer yet but have heard Bailey Rice definitely leaning towards us and that he won't cost any more than our third rounder.
His modest Champs form ensures that with our third rounder being early in the round, even if somebody bids on him with a mid to late second rounder we will use no more than a third.
Would be a good result for the club in a Draft that doesn't go too deep.
I posted this on page 344 of this thread. The reason he has had a quiet championships is that he hurt his shoulder at training 4 weeks ago.
He's been involved with our club for years, the only thorn in our side may be that his manager, Climax, is best mates with SOS.

Riewoldt is the best winger in the comp. Has been for 15 years, has just been played out of position is all.

The main problem is that while not everyone had access to PP and F/S picks everyone has access to FA.

I do agree that a PP doesn't make or break our next flag push. However, it sure as hell would help! Especially in a year where it looks like we could get two top quality mids with picks 3&4 and they would have almost the right amount of development before we start to contend.
It may be that this arises more plausibly next year. A few senior injuries (thrown in with one or two retirements) and we could quite quickly be back to bottom two. Four consecutive years of bottom 4 or so and the end 2016 retirements of Roo, Chips and Dempster just as this is being considered by the AFL ...

only thing that stood out to me over here was that he was a good kick

Odds that the Blues will be mediocre to moderate for the next decade? The supporter base and club leaders don't have the stomach to assess the list properly. They need to find 15+ good young kids. That doesn't happen in two or three years.
Oh look, Carlton trying to buy their way out of their shithole. How surprising. They have the perfect opportunity to start hitting the draft hard right here right now but instead will **** around like a bunch of total w***ers and shit all over their fanbase for the next decade. Good riddance.

While they did not specify other clubs that had been more ruthless in offloading senior players for draft picks, the Blues were clearly indicating that they would not go to the same lengths as St Kilda, who relinquished Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo and Ben McEvoy for draft picks in 2012-13.
:p:p:p

We will win another two games at least IMO.
Agree. Those saying we've only beaten weak teams and all that seem to also forget that when we beat some of those weak teams we also had a fair few injuries that we seem to be getting on top of now and that we would have also had less self-belief generally, off the back of how bad we were in the last 2/3 of last year. With every win now we'll be gaining belief and confidence and that's half the battle.

We also were mighty close against GWS (who have proved to be a very good team so far this year) and Essendon (pre WADA's appeal, when they were still going OK), so we weren't far off having 6 wins already and now we're starting to really get close to our full/best team out on the park for the first time in at least a couple of years, so there's nothing at all to suggest that our best footy is not ahead of us this season, which could offset the draw getting harder to a degree.

It's also not as though we can only beat the "easy-beats". We were massive "outsiders" to beat Gold Coast up there in round 2 (from memory they were paying about $1.18 for the win), yet we led by 53 points about half way through the game, and won and we "should" have beaten Essendon (who played finals last year), just 3 weeks after they beat Hawthorn and 4 weeks after they almost beat Sydney in Sydney. Again, we would have been long odds to win that game. And lets not forget that in spite of how dreadful we were in the 2nd half of last year, we demolished Freo (when they were on a big winning streak and playing for top spot) out of nowhere, so I have little doubt that we'll pull at least one more win that few expect out of our asses before the year is out, as well as hopefully at least one more against a Melbourne/Essendon type team that we are expected to be very competitive with.

In my opinion I don't think we'll even ask for a PP. We would have to have a horror finish to season to even be a slight chance of getting one.
Everybody wasting their breath talking about it.
Agree. We'd have to have a catastrophic end to the year to get one and I see nothing at all to suggest that it's going to happen.

We might as well talk about what we're going to do if we win Tattslotto I reckon.

Which is exactly what we need being the worst kicking backline in the league.
Webster, Savage, McKenzie, Newnes, Roberton, Goddard, Lee are likely to make that much less the case going forward though I'd suggest.
