Come on folks, we all know better we're not gonna tank. No way Coach Lyon lets us do that. I'm getting sick of all this stuff about how it would be "easier" for us to win a flag if Hawthorn finishes third and has to fly to Perth and play at Subi. $#@% Hawthorn! We have to believe — and the boys have to — we can beat anyone, anytime, anywhere. The line in their song says they "play to win." We should approach games no differently. The Tassie game was an aberration. I hope the boys' mentality is: We don't care who we play or when we play them. We're the best $#@@%^& team in the comp, we're on top of the ladder and anyone who gets in our way of getting this year's flag is gonna get their @$$ kicked!
Wisdom from across the seas - well said Gill. :thumbsu:

Dawson will be in the 22 for our finals campaign, that's where he shines. Picking out his first game back this year against Cameron as an example of Dawson not good enough reeks of an agenda. He has plenty of runs on the board not to mention 4 GF appearances as a full back.
Players like McPharlin and Johnson don't put their body on the line like Dawson (and SNOS) does and there are more than a number of times in a game where that is required.
he played very well in finals for st kilda but that was 5 or 6 years ago now. His most recent grand final (in 2013) he was fairly comprehensively beaten.

Ross said the other day that Fyfe is headstrong and has made it clear he wants to be predominantly a midfielder who goes forward occasionally. Interesting that. Where does the coaches will end and the players will start?
I think it's because that player is the best player on the league and if Freo make him play a position he doesn't enjoy there's plenty of other clubs that'll pay him a lot of money & give him what he wants.

He looks so fricken excited to be playing :hearts:

There's no point tanking anyway: you can't rely on WCE beating the Bulldogs and the Crows, so we'd have ended up tanking for no reason.

Lets assume that if we were to tank we would lose, then we hit the issue that we need to win two games to wrap up a top 2 spot.

v North - forced to send our older guys to Etihad
v Melbourne - should be no concern
v Port - forced to send everyone to Adelaide on a 6 day break and no rest available before finals.

As far as I'm concerned we need to do all we can to win this game and wrap up a top 2 spot now.

We will also have the Geelong V Hawthorn game saturday night that could decide if we even need to win the second game.

We could be four games and three and a half games clear with three games left if Geelong win and Freo win.

Yep, that's it. Players that miss won't be resting, they're no doubt injured or at risk of being injured.

There is tanking , which we won't do, and then there is doing everything you can to win what is effectively a fairly meaningless game in the context of the remainder of the season.

I expect everyone selected to do their best, right up to the time Lyon instructs them to play tempo footy and sits key players on the bench.

This game is not that. I hope the next 3 are however.

That is most likely to be the agenda - everyone plays, ten goals up at half time, Pav, Macca and Sandi spend the remainder of the game on the pine (or back pocket).

I agree. The coach could only take it so far.
yeah, he did look excited.

He did do a pretty good job of stifling our offensive thrusts.
He did and he played very well. But they set up across the middle and we kept kicking it to him. really really dumb. But we seemed to panic trying to score quickly. Or that's how I saw it.

And I believe Mayne lost the plot on making sure he was accountable.

McPharlin on Franklin. Johnson on the resting ruck (Hale) leaves Dawson on Roughead. Although Dawson and Johnson rotate a lot Dawson taking the player closer to goal.

That left Gunston manned up by Sutcliffe and Duffield. It's why Ibbo out was so big.
Well either you or the people who told me elsewise is right. Duffield was certainly on him after he'd scored 4, but as to before I couldn't tell you. I don't watch replays of losses.
