McViegh, Bartel, KK & Smith (can't believe I said that) to start with is my thoughts at the moment. Surely Heath Shaw can't maintain that price.

McVeigh worries me, he's been a SC love child of mine for years
But he
Looked old and slow last season

Yeah he's one im 50/50 on. Had him a couple years back when he was a defender and he was pretty good. I'll no doubt change my mind a million times between now and next week

Jimmy Bartel, Brodie Smith and Mitch Brown the only three locks in defence for me at the moment

Any love for KK? Him and Shaw are locks for me.

He won't be in my first draft tomorrow but will definitely be on the watchlist.

At the moment I reckon Shaw, Bartel and Smith will be my 3 premo starters in defence. Laird also under consideration after doing so well for me last year.

Replace Bartel with McVeigh and same for me.

Bit scared off with Shaw's $$$ but will be tempted.

Interested in Macmillan again depending on price.

Can't see myself going near McVeigh at all next year. I can't see him playing 22 games to begin with.

I think Shaw is almost certain to maintain his average from last season. He's as safe as Goldstein. I'll just get him after he drops 20k or so with an upgrade

I was a big fan of Macmillian last season but I don't think I'll be going there again, McDonald and Hibberd at North are much better defensive options for me

Macmillan Pro: last year was a breakout year of the sort that you can see him maintaining. That stretch from R12-23 (injury interrupted) he averaged 98. Mature body, established best 22 and leadership group. Deserves to be considered in the group of upper-midpricers like Docherty, Roberton, Wood, Williams, Rampe, etc.
Macmillan Con: Was an easy call at $270K last year but likely $400+ this year. Won't be drastically underpriced and needs to follow up with more weeks like his hot streak. Has missed multiple weeks with injury the last 2 years.

McDonald pro: good candidate to shake off second year blues and have some degree of breakout. Should be a regular in the seniors. Can play.
McDonald con: still looks to me like a defend-first HBF at the moment rather than a quarterback type. Not likely to have super high possession numbers out of the backline and won't be gifted midfield minutes, at least not this season.

Hibberd pro: If he plays as a rookie should be a no-brainer. Super-fit already (top 3 in the time trials, albeit with Gibson not running and a bit of high altitude advantage), knows how to find it and a good user.
Hibberd con: apart from McDonald in 2014, Scott hasn't given 1st year rookies many games recently.

But I'll do a full NM preview in the new year.

I'll be not getting any defender more than 500k, my policy for every year.

Yeah, why would you want an injury prone spud like McVeigh?

The only concern I have with him is his post season knee surgery, but other than that at 542k he is a lock IMO.
