So if we get Mcluggage at 3 GWS basically threw away pick 16 for no reason.
No live trading this year. Would have made for an interested draft though! Is it too late to trade for Gold Coast's pick 4? There are still 8 or so hours to go until the draft after all. We can then get McC and Ainsworth both.
Hopefully it goes something like this because I'd say these are our 3 primary needs.
McCluggage
HB: Witherden/Berry/Cumming
Small forward: Bolton/Simpkin
Quick midfielder: Gallucci/Venables
Interesting conundrum thats for sure. I'm still hoping that somehow Simpkin is available at our pick but I think that is almost 0% chance now. Gallucci from those 4 you mentioned is the one I'm starting to draw myself to. Explosive and looks to have neat skills (although kicking needs a bit more consistency) he should add that breakaway speed from a stoppage we lack.I am very intrigued to find out who we select with pick 16. For the past couple of weeks we were debating who we would choose from the likes of Simpkin, Florent, Berry and Witherden but now it appears there is a genuine chance that all 4 of them could be gone. If the draft turned out like it does below that would be the case.
1 Bombers McGrath
2 GWS Taranto
3 Lions McCluggage
4 Suns Ainsworth
5 GWS Setterfield
6 Blues SPS
7 Suns Logue
8 Suns Bowes
9 Dockers Simpkin
10 Swans Brodie
11 Suns Scrimshaw
12 GWS Perryman
13 NMFC Florent
14 WCE Berry
15 Crows Hayward
16 Port Witherden
17 Lions ?
It would leave us with the likes of Venables, Gallucci, SPP and Isaac Cumming on the board. We'd probably be hoping at least one of English/Marshall/Battle get taken before our pick 16 leaving one of those listed above available for us.
Totally agree and I think some others are feeling similar although I'd take Simpkin at 16 if available ahead of those half backs.
Also hoping at our last pick we'd go for Clarke, SPP or Mutch ahead of Graham who really does look ordinary.
Supposedly English and SPP are firmly in the frame for the Eagles so there is a still a chance one of Berry or Witherden could be available at pick 16. It will be exciting watching the selections fall between our picks 3 and 16. Watch the excitement ramp up on here if one of Brodie/Simpkin/Logue/Scrimshaw unexpectedly falls out of the top 12 or so.Interesting conundrum thats for sure. Been saying it for awhile but not going to take any plaudits.Good call whoever came up with the Cotchin comparison, probably a few clicks quicker too. Hopefully Hugh can become a Brownlow medallist too...![]()

If you take out picks 2 and 3 from that trade, GWS only gave up the equivalent of pick 60-odd.
Certainty has value.
Also, they seem likely to take mostly academy kids and have presumably done the maths on when the bids will come. As a result, they presumably valued pick 16 well below where we did. Win-win.

sounds like a terrible trade for us then since gws was pretty much holding a firesale giving away valuable assets for nothing we could have got more out of it, ie players etc...but whatever trade period is over
Terrible? What the hell man?
It was a bloody great trade for us. Considering those late picks were essentially useless to us, we basically downgraded our first round pick by one spot in order to upgrade pick 31 to pick 16.
It was a great deal, and it looks like we may potentially get the #1 player on our draft board with pick 3 anyway, which turns a great trade into an amazing one.
You actually don't have to screw another team over to get a good trade result. The academy points system opens the door for some great mutually beneficial trade scenarios.
welll we gave up those mid picks that would have been effective in us getting allison and watson without taking the risk of going into deficit for next year which is basically where i am coming from
Personally i think that we gave up 1 pick too many in that trade. I think on points, if we had of hung onto pick 60 in that trade it would have been an even trade.welll we gave up those mid picks that would have been effective in us getting allison and watson without taking the risk of going into deficit for next year which is basically where i am coming from
I don't think 'terrible' is the right word, but given how desperate GWS were to move up the order, I thought we could've possibly drove a bit of a harder bargain. All in all, it was relatively fair.welll we gave up those mid picks that would have been effective in us getting allison and watson without taking the risk of going into deficit for next year which is basically where i am coming from
TBD - talk has been that one of them may receive a bid in the 30s. If they receive a bid in the 2nd round, which will go through til late-30s, we'd lose points on our 2nd rounder next year. Quick calcs, if one of them gets a bid at 35, and next year we come 16th (always try to stay away from the spoon), pick 21 would become pick 38. That would suck, and a few extra points would've been useful.
